What's wrong with that? As long as it isn't an instant game over it opens up possibilities where you can weigh going all in on augs to clear a difficult portion of the game and then are on the clock to get it fixed through some other side quest/activity before you totally lose it and MaxTac comes to put you down. While it's active you could have various gameplay effects like distorted vision, friendlies or neutrals appearing as hostiles, augs activating when they shouldn't etc. The problem is the game won't be hard or free form enough to make such a system worthwhile.

Not sure if you can contract cyberpsycosis, but augments do have a humanity metric. It may just be a cap limit though.

Any humanity system in a game is shit because not only does it suppose there's an objectively ideal version of humanity, but the ideal they always go with is as boring as shit.
In these systems being morally human as possible is about being passive, non violent and as nice as possible to everyone. Which means it ignores basic human emotions like anger, sadness, fear, hate etc, and also those larger philosophical questions like the greater good.
And on a physical side, it's always embracing any form of magic, technology etc is also unhuman and makes you lose human points. Which is also stupid, because the basic idea behind it would mean that using a cell phone or driving a car would make you less human (which it conveniently never does under such systems). Hell, even picking up a stick to hit something with would take away your humanity.
If a game wants to use a humanity points system why can't they be interesting with it and flip it around? The more you express emotions, such as replying with anger or violence to situations, the more human you are. The more to augment yourself with outside sources the more human you are, as tool use is an important part of humanity. But games never do that because every dev everywhere is shit.

It's fairly easy to see how too. Install enough cybernetics and augs, and even the most humble person begins to think themselves beyond human. The slippery slope happens because you realize you can just "upgrade" everything to higher level.

Reminder that these don't necessarily mean there is some kind of active multiplayer game mode in the works. Many games have "online features" but are still single player games. Something like Gravity Rush for example, it had asynchronous online stuff but there was never an actual multiplayer mode where you could fly around with other people. Interestingly, this seems like it doesn't happen as long as the prosthetics are good. Even with modern real bionics that are super primitive compared to games like this, if they can move closely to how the brain expects them to move then the people wearing them report that the bionic limb actually feels like their own limb, it feels as if it properly belongs to their self instead of just being a fancy crutch strapped on to their body.
