Why is Woolie such a hostile asshole on the main podcast but his regular self on Woolie Will Figure It Out? The recent one with Eyepatch Wolf sounds almost like it was recorded pre-breakup.

They used it as an excuse to reformat, i.e: angrily yell at the chat instead of just doing a normal podcast.

I tune in to the podcast once in a while even though they have gotten progressively worse. Woolie is much better in his youtube content which I still keep up with. Pat is a lazy fuck, and his choice of vidya to stream is also trash though even if it wasn't I'm not sitting down to watch a ginger midget passively play something.

Their best content was always LPs because they would share trivia about a game and generally shoot the shit. LPs are already, if not, a dead thing that doesn't generate as much profit as streaming (and youtube retardation doesn't help).

People didn't like them because they were "friend simulators" or any stupid shit like that. Their old LPs were a legitimately good way to learn about a niche game plus learn details about it because they were passionate about whatever game, plus they had their moments during a playthrough. All of that is gone now, though at least Woolie is trying and having pretty good success with it.

I mean, that's the problem with 80% of the podcast. Pat is passionate about a variety of things, but actively enjoys shitting on everything outside of his wheelhouse for no reason other than to see people's reactions. Woolie, on the other hand, has his tiny, tiny niche of things he actually cares about and could not give less of a shit about anything outside of that. So when the vast majority of the podcast is about new/upcoming games, that Pat delights in shitting on and Woolie just doesn't care about, it becomes nothing but endless negativity, which really just isn't fun to listen to.
E3 is a great example. Pat was interested in like four games and spent some time gushing about them, but the rest of the time shitting on everything else. Woolie, on the other hand, just didn't even care about pretty much everything announced because it wasn't the niche they enjoyed, to the point where he didn't even bother to watch the trailers or read the articles for the games that they were talking about. The passion is gone outside of a couple subjects (i.e. their FF7/Chrono Trigger talk was really fun, because they both love those games and can go into great detail on them).

Matt and Pat both realized that traditional Youtube LP's just weren't viable anymore, at least from a financial perspective. Matt does video essays and Pat streams, but Woolie is trying to keep the dream alive.

This content creation thing was never gonna last anyway, they all probably have 10 years at most before they need to go out and get real jobs. I'm willing to bet Matt and Woolie have emergency college funds prepared for that inevitability.

Castle Superbeast is a fine replacement to the podcast really. Only times it goes bad is when they dive too hard in some "controversy" and pick sidefs, or when Pat goes on a Twitter drama rampage.

I miss Fisticuffs and Scrublords the most though. Woolie's Get Into Fighting Games is more professional and in-depth probably, but the structure is very loose and makes it feel little more than a twitch recording that it is.

And with them leaning harder to the stream stuff alienates the EU audience that they might have had in the past.
