Gameplay wise? It's much faster paced. Hornet can run, jump, grab ledges and attacks in ways the knight couldn't. Healing is also instantaneous and cures more, but costs all your Silk. Abilities are different from utensils, which cost a particolar kind of collectible

I've tried Hollow Knight three times and always drop it 5-6 hours in. Does it pick up after that, or is it just more of the same? It felt very simplistic compared to other metroidvanias.

Okay thanks, I'll just stick to other metroidvanias. I love the genre but Hollow Knight felt really shallow and basic. It's focused around boss fights, but you have a tiny moveset and no real build variety. It seems like everyone would play the game in the exact same way instead of offering real player choices on the progression of the protagonist (usually the core appeal in metroidvanias).

I sincerly hope we get an ability to get the pogo back, I can already see that most of my deaths will be from me forgetting you can't pogo anymore

I don't necessarily mean it needs the amount of weapons available in a castlevania game. La Mulana and ESA are good examples, and even Axiom Verge. There's enough variety in the options available to the player in terms of weapons and equippables that two people will have a pretty different experience in the game, even if the core unlockables (phasing and grappling for example) are mandatory.

Focused experiences are always better. I will never understand the thought process behind filling a game with useless crap weapons that you'll never use after finding the broken ones.

Okay, compare it to something else then. Look at salt and sanctuary, or even dark souls itself. Hollow knight borrowed some light soul mechanics for whatever reason, and yet has almost no combat depth. It would've benefitted from at least a couple more move options, so for example a player could base their playstyle on either blocking, rolling, evading, all that stuff. Spells exist, but they're not particularly good. You can't realistically do a magic only build or anything. That's the kind of stuff I miss. I'm not saying remove stuff from the combat system, I'm saying it feels incredibly barebones. What's the incentive for playing Hollow Knight more than once?

It seems to be implied that the Knight focused the void and unified its will, thus basically becoming the godlike counterpart to the Radiance by ascending the pantheon. (Godmaster endings)

The non-DLC ending where you beat Radiance implies that Knight and Hollow Knight sort of put the void to rest.

Real question is which ending is canon for Silksong.

The knight was always a higher being, being a child of the white lady and the pale king.

I like to think he wasn't truly hollow at the start but his ordeals made him so.
For example, fighting through Godhome, his focus is sharpened and only thing left for him to strive for is to reach the top. Remember that feeling when you're so engrossed in a game fighting a difficult boss you lose track of time and everything around you, your mind only focused on your movement and the fight? I'm thinking of something like that.

If he was truly hollow, he would have no desire to combat the radiance after being cast off.
I think its implied that he has some semblance of identity, and that since the first ending is technically a bad ending, in a gameplay sense, it implies that the Knight would not be able to hold the radiance for long.

I'm getting the game day 1 but Godhome and more specifically the Hall of Gods on Radiant honed my skills so much I don't know how Silksong can go to that level in only one game. Even the bossfight showcased looked slow.

Charms really don't change playstyle much. Even when doing nail binding runs using a spell or minion focused charm set you still need to constantly attack with the nail to keep soul meter up and have consistent damage output. A couple bosses die faster to Abyss Shriek spam, but for most others mashing nail with quick slash is more efficient. Doesn't mean the game or charm system is bad, but it feels more like picking out a set of buffs that are more optimal for a given fight.

What's so hard about it? Abyss shriek kills anything above you, you get double jump back every time you pogo, and you can pogo off the spikes on the bottom too. Even just charge slashing enemies and dashing back to the wall works well.

I initially gave up an hour in. But buying it again on Switch really got into it. If you've gone to City of Tears and fought the Mantis Lords and weren't feeling it, it just isnt for you.

For me the highlight of Hollow Knight was how well suited its physics and movement lent itself to platform gameplay.
I've played tons of games in the genre, but few where the movement itself was interesting.

A shame that Hollow Knight didn't have even more sections that focused on it though, but every section that did it even if just a little was great and the ones who did it a lot were simply super satisfying.

Haven't beaten NKG or Radiance but found trial of the fool only fairly annoying. Was happy to finally clear it.

That applies to tools only obviously. And no there´s no attack down iirc. If Hornet doesnt land the nail on the ennemy while doing the diagonal hit, she get hit instead.

The shards are basically a currency that always has a purpose, and gives reason to keep killing enemies. Geo becomes useless after everything is bought. Beads seam to be rarer and are lost on death, so I'm guessing item costs will be lower this time.
