For me its a tie between SA and IV

6

How come 3 has the best main theme?
youtube.com/watch?v=kUy_cc7386k

its maximum comfy

3 and IV is my favorite. To be fair, Rockstar is god tier in creating atmospheres and as I grow older I appreciate it even more.

For me it's gtav > gtaiii > gta vc > gta vi > gta sa

I want to see the PS2 GTA games remade with the modern GTA/RDR physics/gameplay mechanics. Even if they have the same graphics I don't care as long as they play like a modern Rockstar game.

Agreed. I replayed 3 recently and was surprised how much I like the world. An interesting mix of gloomy and cozy and I love how distinct the areas feel. The map is also surprisingly detailed with shops and the train, in some way feels a bit fresher than vice city.

GTAIV is the best controlling one IMO.

Liberty City Stories' theme has a special place in my heart. It just sounds so "Little Italy"

sometimes I just like to walk around and listen to what the npcs say. its strangely relaxing

Yes even that game. Just anything after San Andreas really. Those PS2 games are still great but I probably wouldn't ever put them down if they played like GTAIV.

who gives a shit, they are all the same and shitty, this crappy series is a good example as to why games need to evolve

One thing that 3's LC had that the next games didn't really have is the originality of the city. LC is inspired by NY, yes, but it's so loose that it can stands as its own city. Since SA they seems to be obsessed to recreating real life places accurately but they just felt like a carbon copy as the result and less original.

I am a sucker for melancholic Autumn Big City life setting which both III and IV delivered.

is there a way to play it on pc with mouse+keyboard?

GTA literally set the bar for open world games and still pushing it up. Name me at least one studio which makes same polished and immersive worlds. You fucking can't.

Can you map the right stick to mouse on pcsx2?

fuck off zoomer

I mean, Mafia came out a year after and mechanically was more impressive.

>Finding the banshee for the first time
those are the moments I play games for

not nearly as immersive or atmospheric

fpbp

Thats a very subjective claim to make.

>WANTING GAMES TO PLAY BETTER BAD

for me it's 3 when it's foggy

Mafia is mechanically impressive but the missions are so dated by this point. They're structurely tedious, very trial and error, and very linear
>Mafia isn't as atmospheric as GTA games, if not more
Are you serious

I guess. I actually havent played mafia and was just trying to aggravate you.

>banshee
I still remember where it can be found. I don't even know why my brain holds on to that memory.

more like needing soulless remakes and remasters to enjoy games instead of just playing the original

i only got mafia 2 do i have to play one?

like with so many other aspects of GTA IV i've really come to appreciate its theme, easily my favourite now youtube.com/watch?v=jqE8M2ZnFL8

Tawna, but she's censored.

Fuck, wrong thread.

GTA III is the best in the series. Having said that, all the mainline GTA games are great.

They're different games with different kind of direction (Mafia 1 is trying to be a simulation, while 2 is more arcady). As for the story, they're pretty much separated with the exception of one scene which is pretty much a hard spoiler. I do think that 1's story is a classic and possibly one of the best in video game, while 2 is mediocre as hell.

I say that you don't need to play 1 in order to play 2. But, playing 1 beforehand can explain some of the things on 2, mainly the way the game is designed.

Fuck the original

Why?

Rude move.
If there is something to critique Mafia over, its as said that it is a very linear game.
Free roaming isn't that memorable when its just for the sake of itself.
Mafia in all honestly is a series that had a lot of potential that was just squandered away.
I can't put into words why it was such an impactful moment.
Its not a hidden secret, but it somehow felt more special, seeing that sportscar in that car saloon.
Probably feelings like that are the crux to truly great Open World games

mafia 2 was imo a very comfy experience, driving kinda sucked but it got me on a huge mafia train. i watched the godfather movies and many documentaries. its in fact the first game that influenced my other media consumption

>Probably feelings like that are the crux to truly great Open World games
Yeah. Nowadays they just put a marker on a map or some shit. I really fucking hate that. Nothing is special when you can just open up the map and the game just tells you everything.

My special moment with 3 is when I just finished a Joey mission and hearing a phone ringing nearby. You walk towards it and voila, you just found a new line of missions. It's not even marked on the map, you found it by yourself. GTA 3 is full with moments like this and that's why it's my favorite in the series.

2 has a great atmosphere.

>are the crux to truly great Open World games
Yes, it always feels nice to stumble upon something that wasn't highlighted or explained to you beforehand. It's double nice if you can interact with it. Something, that most open world games are completely devoid of now thanks to "points of interest". Handcrafted stuff is always better.

As shit as it is. 9/11 sorta helped out a lot. It was gloomy and depressing and grey after for a while

Probably 3 but that might just be nostalgia speaking.

Vice City had the best soundtrack but the second island was a bit bland.

San Andreas was amazing really. The best GTA to play, the controls had improved, great variation in scenery, good radio stations.

Never played GTA 4.

GTA 5 was alright but the story and characters did nothing for me, and I wanted to love it as it was the reason I bought a PS3. The radio stations were shit and the city never really hooked me. I always felt like I was missing something with GTA 5.

It was genuine exploration.
It was also helped that you could get to that car either through normal roads or through that old train tunnel with the hobo circle, or maybe you just spotted it after running into jack a car from the car part infront. Its organic world building
The game didn't tell you go look at that car, you chose to investigate

GTA 5 would've been great had it focused only on Michael, keeping Trevor and Franklin at most as story-related NPCs.

>spotted it after running into the car park out in front of the saloon because you needed a car
that was a bad sentence

It's so obvious GTA 5 had a troubled development. R* had so many ideas but couldnt decide to on one, rather they made the poor decision to put half assed versions of their ideas and cut a lot of content. I wish they'd release the details like they did with GTA SA
