Well obviously I understand that now don't I? Yes, it makes perfect sense why the dev would want to get rid of cheaters. I just think that a *permanent* ban, especially without warning, for a first time reprimand, is pretty extreme. Even if it was just mentioned in the changelog "if you modify the JS, you will get banned", or if this ban was temporary, then it gives people a chance to stop breaking the rules.

And I would suspect that every single one of those games has a terms of service which details a) what is against the rules and b) what the consequences are for breaking those rules. And many of them will only issue temporary bans for initial violations, like Xbox Live does.

That's why I don't try and cheat in Xbox Live games (not to mention it would be more difficult to accomplish, of course). Because I know that my account will get banned. I know that the consequences exist. If a game doesn't explicitly detail what its rules are and what the consequences of breaking those rules are, then players are not given a reason not to play around with the code. If there are such warnings / details of punishments, then players DO have a very clear reason not to play around with the code.

If there had been, then I would have stopped doing it. I was curious and wanted to see what could be achieved by modifying the variables. But if the website stated that such activity would lead to a ban, I would have stopped doing it, because I would have been aware of the consequences. Also the fact that this is a seemingly permanent ban, when most services will issue temporary bans for first offences, is pretty crazy. And also the fact that this isn't a paid game or an esports tournament with money involved - in those cases, people's money is on the line. But that isn't the case in this game.

I'm not saying cheating should be allowed, and like I keep saying, I perfectly understand why the dev wanting to get rid of cheaters for the sake of fair play, but I just think that a permanent ban with no warning whatsoever is extreme.
