SMT deals with cosmic forces, Persona does not. SMT characters have the potential to literally rewrite reality on a regular basis. Persona deals with more personal society-based problems dressed up with supernatural flavor. Comparing the two in some kind of powerlevel wankfest is dumb.

Persona 3 was a massively successful experiment to make the series mainstream, while trying to prevent hardcore otaku from rioting. Message boards were filled with hatred over how the series was now considered a "dating simulator".

While filled with fanservice, the Persona Dancing series had some atrocious remixes. Some were just production effects added to the existing songs, while others threw the rhythm off entirely.

Purely physical though, SMT>>>Persona. I mean, one of the protagonists is a literal fucking gladiator, another one being an actual samurai. Also, one of them is a half-demon, being able to freely cast his very own magic all by himself.

Correction, Persona 3 Portable was a massively successful experiment. Persona 3 by itself barely outsold P2EP by a hair and was outsold by P1 and P2IS, and then P4 afterward. It wasn't until P3P was released that P3 actually got popular, and then after 4G it was eclipsed by 4, then 5 came around and eclipsed everything previously. There was maybe a 2 year period where you could say P3 was massively successful.
