yes, very good. Ys 8 is probably the one with the most mainstream appeal plus it's decently sized unlike earlier games which are somewhat quick to play through. Ys 8 is probably 30-50 hrs depending on how fast you want to go through it.
maybe start there and then go through the older ones. they're all self contained so you can start wherever. older titles are also much harder than Ys 8, just fyi.

A fair warning about Cultist Sim, the game is much less a game about exploring the horrors of a world and uncovering the truth and more a resource management game with story stretched over top of it. It's not for most people.

It has a bunch of cancellable actions, a resource (boost) that needs to be conserved along with different melee actions that significantly changes the combat and raises the stakes, enemies are fun to fight and have decent variety.

The caveat is you need to be aggressive (although, that's really fucking difficult in God Hard). If you play it as a regular cover shooter you won't like it as much.

And then Zenimax decided to copy Overwatch and its shit hero abilities to try to cash grab with the Quake IP. It's fucking embarrassing.

I love the series, but you should probably just start with the first one and 4. Then grab the rest as you go if you like those. I started with 4 myself and it remains one of my favorites, but most of them are good. The best ones are REmake, 4, 5, and REmake 2 imo. Revelations 2 has a really fun side arcade mode but the campaign sucks. 6 has great gameplay but a shit story and is more like modern Fast and the Furious movies (in other words, retarded) than a horror game. Zero is a mediocre and frustrating version of the first game and doesn't really matter. Still never played 7.
