HL1 has bad shooting gameplay and is incredibly repetitive, from the level design to the shooting encounters to the puzzles. Hl2 fixed that and offers a more compelling singleplayer campaign with great characters and with a lot more gameplay variety.
Also, Sin is much better than HL1.

Hl1 had a LOT more hectic and exciting shooting than hl2. Only the gorillabot sections of ep2 come close

Expect HL1 and HL2 are still objectively fun games with great storytelling. The fact HL1 was one of the first FPS not set in a n abstract dungeons is important to recognize. I would argue very few games utilize physics like HL2 did even to this day. It was also a huge leap in gameplay. The pick up that can moment was shocking in more ways than one but Zoomers don’t understand that.
