Character change thing is a hoax. Rather, coins are awarded at 10x their base value until you have been awarded 4000 of them, after which it goes back to the base value for 24 hours, I think it resets at 9PM EST, same time the game came out

Nah CNK was just ok. The gameplay didn't feel quite as good as CTR and it added the antigravity gimmick (which Mario Kart 8 stole). CTRNF remastered the CNK tracks and just made them way better and removed antigrav. No reason to play CNK now.

sewer speedway is probably the worst out of all tracks when compared to their original version, shortcut has to be approached differently and you can't get nearly vertical on the tube sections like you could before

Use a handling character. That's how you make up for your low speed.

Speed, they don't understeer, but instead massively oversteer. You could try allround and see what you want more and what you can miss. Accel is the hardest and most skillful, but also the very fastest laptime wise.

They're pretty well balanced. All-rounders are decent at everything. Acceleration characters get fucked over by items less. Speed characters are faster if you can control them properly, and handling characters get the most speed boosts if you control them well.

High speed low handling
On easier maps, it's the best character type to use by far.
On harder maps, you'll have to do a lot of hopping and/or airbraking to reposition yourself, but if you play well you'll get great times still.

Sometimes you jump in the wall and it suddenly pops you up, then other times you fucking hover on an edge. The fucking edged surfaces also make for some buggy ass hitbox. I'm starting to understand why they got rid of the anti-grav stuff. They just couldn't for the life of them figure out how to code sideways slopes.
Other than that it's breddy good though.

Accel characters were top tier in the original game, because they had good enough turning to not brake in any map, while having "bad" enough turning to effectively drift on straight roads. This combined with a good speed stat made them great
