Open world (which is actually very wide corridors) with no content, boring simplistic combat, terrible quest design.

XC got me into the series, so maybe I have a soft spot for it. XCX was really fantastic as well, but I didn't care for the characters and felt the cast was too big and empty. XC2 had fantastic mechanics, gameplay, and scenery, but was way too anime for my tastes. I felt a strong secondhand embarrassment the entire time I was playing, I wish they had gone for a more serious tone.

Haven't played the pre-XC xeno games so I can't comment.

Xenoblade 1 wasn't even going to be a Xeno game until a name change late into development, hence why it lacks a lot of what made Xeno distinctive compared to Gears, Saga, Blade X and Blade 2. It was originally supposed to be a new project altogether.

They also said it was just testing the waters to see if Nintendo would give them more freedom/allow them to write and do what they want after being burned badly by Square and Namco. That's why it's really scaled back and toned down in its ideas and themes compared to X and 2, 1 wouldn't have anything like letting people murder innocent defenseless civilians over nothing like X does, or the plot bit about Nia being forced to eat her sister's corpse by her mindbroken dad like 2 does.

I enjoyed the game but calling it high tier is way too much. It had a fair bit of charm, good music, and a nice art style for sure but it also suffered from a lot of trappings like a bad difficulty curve ranging from piss easy individual character stories then having a very hard annoying gauntlet you cant even save during when you do hornburg with a hard final boss. Not to say im not fine with the difficulty, because I do find it compelling, but the problem is just how high it spiked up and how much I just spammed dance to grind. It is the definition of a 6/10 or 7/10 game, and no not journalist 6/10, a 6/10 that means "yeah this game is alright, probably worth playing if you are into that style of JRPG, but nothing amazing"

Cold Steel's and modern Ys's OST is trash, for Falcom's standards at least. Sky FC should be much lower. Sky SC should be lower. 3rd, Zero and Ao should stay. Tokyo Xanadu should be lower.
Xenoblade X should be lower. Xenoblade 2 should be much higher.
Nier Automata should be higher.

It's one of the weaker Pokemon games and has an objectively superior remake in HG/SS
