No. The original LWA was funded by the government as part of a (repeatedly renamed) initiative to encourage anime studios to properly train their new/younger animators. The sequel OVA was partially funded with Kickstarter, it was going to happen any way, but the KS gave them the funds to make it longer.

In any case, the fact that they are crowdfunding a lame-ass VR game is absurd. Trigger is fleecing their moronic fanbase for all their worth.

I'm optimistic that the crowdfunding is to turn it from a tech demo to a full game. But the curious thing is that Bamco supposedly owns the game rights to LWA, so for a LWA game to get crowdfunded after (supposedly) a year and a half of development might mean that Bamco dropped those rights (which might've happened during their recent restructuring) while this was being made so it doesn't have any funds to get finished.

I'll admit that some of this does sound fairly conspiracy ish, but Bamco having the game rights to LWA back in 2017 and Bamco restructuring around 2018 or so are facts.

Reminder that you should read Witch Hat Atelier if you want LWA but good.
