Aoe2 is slower, biased toward the defender, much higher levels of chaos, few ways to outplay your enemy's units. It's a fun party game expecially on 4v4 black forest because you can bring along your noob to experience a meatgrinder chokehold first hand.
Starcraft is the game for people who love playing 1v1s after doing lots of practice and enjoy commanding a responcive, multifaceted army. Static defence (towers/walls) are both much weaker than units but also less resource efficient. This encourages controlling units and fighting tooth and nail for strategic locations compared to the towering of woodlines or walling off gold/stone deposites in aoe. Starcraft 2 is free btw.
