The cast is fairly balanced so you can choose anyone really.

Mika is all about tick throws and being in people's face. People should be just scared to not press buttons as they should be to press them

i tend to play in peoples face, but ive never been much of a grapple. lately ive been focusing on spacing in terms of better playstyle management

Well it's not like you're really throwing out 360s against people. Mika has grabs but sure as hell doesn't play like a grappler all that much.
360C is still a powerful move nonetheless and since we're on the topic of mika, try 623A/B with meter or CS and just catch people trying to do something

I would never take icey's example to be a serious one. I can never honestly think he knows what he's doing aside from getting away with a character that's incredibly hard to punish on top of his 1 frame sidestep spam.
It took him 7-8 months to start making things work, take that for what you will.

also try the current cable and port with another controller if you have one (though I guess then you wouldn't still be using this one)

So what do when a charged FF gets blocked? I always default into 22a due to muscle memory.

You're still able to special cancel so another special that isn't buff if you're far away. 2A+D if they're close to do an instant high-low mix after the FF

So mashing like a madman isn't how it's done? I've gotten concentration and assault from trying to cs tonight.

I only mash it to hell when I'm trying to CS through a gap in the opponent's blockstring by mashing 1/3D.
If I actually want it for confirms or for other stuff it's usually not that big of a deal to get it when I need it.

despite people using "mashing" interchangeably with "abare" you should never LITERALLY be mashing buttons, especially in Frame Traps: the Game
only a few cases are exceptions like what mentioned but aside from that every input you make should be very deliberate

Either way, connecting a bunch of those will get easier the more you do it.
