>people keep hyping up Magic to people, just going "wait for a better client to MODO!!!!"
>Magic Arena releases
>people realize it's not nearly as interesting since all the interactions people reference are from other formats like Modern or Legacy
>actually more P2W and the most popular ladder guts the only interesting strategic part (sideboards)
where were you when Magic was exposed as a worse card game than Hearthstone?
People keep hyping up Magic to people, just going "wait for a better client to MODO!!!!"
seethe more
how does anyone get hyped for a computer tcg
I disagree. Love Magic Arena. Hearthstone sucks.
Magic Arena isn't Pay 2 Win. It's Pay 2 Jank.
>a bunch of bad decks
oh... oh wow
You can make a competitive deck in like a month. The wild card system realy helps whit this.
Only thing that is kinda retarded is the power creep.
They keep inventing new ways to completely ruin some existing decks.
Pick related is basically fuck your Golgari Red/Blue decks.
MTGA is the least pay to win digital CCG thanks to the wildcard system though
>thanks to the wildcard system though
LITERALLY just dusting except even more restricted lmao, WotC really managed to brainwash this many people huh
Nigga you can make literally any deck you want for free in like a week on a fresh account
You dumb
that's thanks to frontloading players with all the free shit, you can do that twice over in Shadowverse too and yet rate of acquisition of "dust" in that game is on par with Hearthstone
mtg arena gives out way more free shit too. I can make way more decks than I ever could in hearthstone after eyars
Most of them are jank, sure, but I've had success with Trickster's Assault (It's just Autumn Burchett's mono blue)
that card is a reprint, in fact most of the busted cards were released a decade ago or more
standard babies dont know anything about power creep
>you can make literally any deck you want for free in like a week on a fresh account
not only is that not true, youd have to farm wildcards for months to make any decent, you would also be limited to just one deck until you farm enough wildcards for another deck which would take almost a year.
It's really not. Shitstone is infinitely worse.
I spend all my gold on drafts and I have more wildcards than I know what to do with. Just spent a bunch of them making a Bolas's Citadel deck for shits and giggles even though a quarter of it is rotating out in three months. And I haven't spend any money on the game. Not even the 5 bucks welcome package deal, which is supposedly real good value.
The issue is that you can't jank in the game. With how wildcards work you are punished by not building the most competative meta-deck you can. You don't get enough cards to warrant you building some random bullshit decks.
I want to dick around in my card-games.
is there really any way to encourage that though? even with playing paper magic the only way you can do fun dicking around stuff is when you're playing with people you know who agree to the same terms.
Meanwhile, Shadowverse is giving every player 239 legendary cards for free to celebrate their 3rd birthday.
Playing jank against jank is not the problem. They actually have a pretty neat deck-matching system in unranked traditional play.
What the other guy is saying is that getting the wildcards to make janky decks basically needs severe grinding or actual money spent.
That's why I say this game isn't Pay 2 Win. It's Pay 2 Jank. You can make a top tier deck in like a month of normal play after you get thrown all the shit and learn the ropes.
>notDeathwing in the middle
also they are giving free shit away because its a dead game and they are trying to grasp at whatever players they got left
I see your point and I'll concede that I misunderstood his post but I think my conclusion is still the same. in paper magic if you want to make some jank deck with weird cards nbo one uses its a pain to go out and collect them all especially since they will only be useful for one or two specific jank decks, where as op meta stuff is good in almost every deck
>get into tabletop MTG with my buddies from college
>hear about MTGA
>get into the beta
>every single turn is more than 60 seconds long
no thanks
I don't understand why they stretch out the standard format so much. It's so incredibly cancerous and gets more fucked up every expansion. we're getting another 250 cards in 3 weeks and STILL no rotation...fuck me
that's gonna kinda always be a problem because of how spells work but once you start playing against people who know there decks it does get a little bit better. its still a game to play on a second monitor as you do something else though
MTG Arena is just rock paper scissors the game
its all RNG because you always win against some deck and always lose against others
if you're gonna dumb it down to that level you could say so of all card games
no, MTGA has literally this many decks and nothing else
its all rng agains who you match up
We may have gone too far in a few places
Lmao you'd better revise that tier list, retard.
Tier 1: Esper, Gruul, Mass Manipulation, Sultai Command
Tier 2: Mono Red, Mono White, Izzet Phoenix
Tier 3: Boros Feather, Grixis Bolas, Selesnya Tokens
Tier Fuckoff: everything else, kys shitters
That's only if you fell for the ranked meme
On the other hand, if you draft the sets a lot (as you should, since they're fun), you get a full collection of commons and uncommons pretty easily and then just have to worry about the rares and mythics. Generally, you're gonna get some mythic at random from the random card rewards and build a deck based on it.
It's not ideal, but you can certainly play this game a ton without paying a cent and great a big variety of decks while you do so. Competitive and jank.
as someone who played a shit ton of Hearthstone and quit and got into magic about 2 years ago, Hearthstone had the more entertaining experience (heard it sucks now).
I love the variability in Magic, but the top 3 decks in Magic are so good you can’t do anything but play them to win. The amount of monored I run into on ladder is stupid. So god damn stupid. They need to fix this. I win 90% of the time because I mainboard duress and moment of craving. I want to play against other decks, but I don’t.
The skill gap between decks in Magic is insanely high and translates to a poor online experience without an algorithm
*Destroys Standard and Arena Extended in your path*
Get ready to see me a lot, buckaroos.
grixis arclight when?
>inventing new ways
>new
bro
This is literally how magic always is. Every standard there is rdw until people figure out the right control build then a random mid-range build or 2. Then once every few years you get a good format that allows maybe 7 or 8 decks to be good.
Just skip standard and play modern or legacy if that's still a thing.
Well I guess wotc's idea to appeal to zoomers really paid off with the graphics of arena. Any card not in standard doesn't exist to them.
Draft is the ultimate way to play Magic and everything else is baby shit
Mono red is incredibly easy to beat if you're really trying. Duress and Moment of Craving are not the right way to do it though. What deck are you playing?
>Legacy is baby shit
Okay, retard
