Crash Bandicoot, Leon Kennedy, Doomguy, and a Souls Rep strike me as the 4 most likely.

I’ll say Crash Bandicoot will happen. He’s an icon, possibly more popular than Banjo-Kazooie, although both of them aren’t very popular in Japan, which is important to getting in.

I feel like Crash is the absolute most likely DLC character at this point. Well liked by both Japan and the west, decent demand and legacy. Doomguy is still kind of tenuous in his Japanese ties. Another Capcom or Namco rep seems likely but I don't feel confident saying who it would be. If I could keep it vague the first thing I would bet on would be a new rep from those companies, but that'd be a lame bet.

Lots of different shot types, different bomb types, and things called options that are basically floating ships that fire their own projectiles. Options have different shot types too.

Lots of characters with lots of backstories and lore and shit to draw from as well. There’s a lot of different magic spells and the like. Characters sometimes follow or work as an alternate mode or shot modifier or something.

My only point was that Crash's demand was there before Banjo got in, and that it's unlikely that people who didn't want the character in would be speculating about him before there was anything concrete to back him up. Obviously fans of characters will be emboldened when the perceived barriers to their entry lessen. Like Skull Kid appearing in a remake. Or the Crash trilogy being on Switch. There are no rules anymore, but even if we look at the factors that could influence him getting in, Wright is a maybe.

AA is one of Capcom's biggest series and they're not shy about expanding it beyond the game, but Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are bigger and move more units.

He's commonly in fan polls, but his support is nowhere as big as the ones that got in for that reason, like Ridley, Banjo, or K Rool.

Every AA game was first released on a Nintendo handheld, but characters that have barely touched a Nintendo console also got in, so that doesn't mean much.

He's known in Japan and in the West, but we've had characters that were primarily asked for in just the West or Japan.

He's possibly going to get his next game on the Switch which would give them a reason to advertise in Smash, but that's only if Capcom wants to advertise it or doesn't want to advertise a bigger game instead.

If Dragon Quest had gotten its nod earlier (as it probably should have), and if we didn't have Joker (whom some feel doesn't fit in anyway), then we wouldn't have that situation, but hey, we play the ball where it lies.

As far as Lloyd goes, not only did he get the votes, he also hails from a game whose combat system already bears some similarity to Smash, and he has tons of moves that could be easily assembled into a Smash moveset. It just kinda... fits.

After the E3 Direct showing No More Heroes 3, there's definitely a resurgence of Travis Touchdown being a likely addition. DOOM guy and Dante are up there too. Only thing is Capcom already has two reps in and so does Square. So Dante would be a bit much just like if Sora (lol Disney) was added.

It would feel a bit weird to have Crash without Spyro, considering their history together, and considering that the Spyro trilogy is coming to Switch pretty soon. Certainly not saying that would stop them from using Crash, just that it would feel a bit off. But then, if those two were indeed the last two characters, that would mean the Pass consisted of 3/5 western platforming mascots, and I really don't see that happening, even with the other 2/5 being JRPG characters.

Kind of a bummer that the Pass has five slots, considering the east vs. west shit that's kinda cropped up. Look forward to tons of whining if 3/5 of the characters are more popular in Japan than in the west.

Yeah, the fact that we actually know the number of slots for the Pass has the whole thing feeling more encumbered than pre-release roster speculation.
