Snake and Cloud deserve to be in. I would have rather had the black mage, but I can't argue that Cloud is more iconic and well-known as a character. The others are debatable but I like having third parties overall, like sonic, hero, banjo, etc.

I've only played MGS1, and it was very boring and outright insufferable at points for me. He's a stand-in for the player almost, asking questions for the sake of the player to get an explanation, not him.
Genuinely don't see the difference between a mute JRPG protagonist, and him.

You're probably right, but with MGS2 and MGS3 having pressure sensitive controls, I don't have access to the majority of the series, I don't know if emulation can do the pressure sensitive buttons correctly.
Also MGS1 genuinely made me feel tired, that game is a LOT of exposition and very little game, which can be fine, but it tired me out personally.

How would you include Geno in a new Mario game? I think the best way to go about it would to bring back Rose Town and Gaz, and make Geno a sort of guardian angel to him. Gaz could be an adventurous boy that gets himself in dangerous situations, and Geno could grant Gaz's wishes of Geno "coming to life" to protect him. Then Geno could take Gaz home and accompany Mario on his adventures.

Good thing they are all the protagonists and thus innately iconic in their own series.

Nobody gave a fuck about Snake until 1998, Bomberman has been well known far long than that, and also revolutionized multiplayer in gaming by allowing up to 4/8 players before it became a stable later on, not to mention how he was the first third/party ever to crossover with another Nintendo property
