it's not bad if it's really the only way of doing it, but there's a couple better ways of designing the overall system to produce more efficient, or at least cleaner code. the simplest way to improve that would be to simply change it to "return this.ItemType;" since the value in the return statement is the same as the value being checked, but it still uses string typing, which can lead to inefficiencies and awkwardly written code in other areas. you could use polymorphism to make a base item class/interface with a toString() method and made a sword class override that method so you would only have to write "return this.toString();". alternatively, a less "invasive" change that also gets rid of string typing would make the type of ItemType an enum and use an array or hash that contains strings, so you would only have to write "return itemStrings[this.ItemType];".
