*munches on pretzels*

It's better than Kotor 1. Kotor was is generic and boring, Kotor 2 was unique.

this is how I know you've never been to any kotor2 thread

Weak.

KOTOR 1 is the most basic, rehashed, generic star wars story you can imagine. It's like they just copied the original trilogy. It's a childrens story (which is that star wars is, according to Lucas). KOTOR 2 is star wars for adults, for people with an IQ above the mean.

Come the fuck on, OP...

this is getting embarassing

Prove me wrong.

Revan understood snacks.

jedi knight academy

Correct. It's probably my favorite video game. TSLRCM is a must.

it all depends on the genre
>kotor 1/2 for rpg
>rogue squadron for arcade flight
>x-wing/tie fighter for sim flight
>galactic battlegrounds/empire at war for rts
>jedi knight for action
>old battlefront for multiplayer shooter
>republic commander for singleplayer fps
>swg for mmo
>podracing for racing

I kinda liked starfighter more than Rogue Squadron

>no star wars film will ever deconstruct force concepts as well as the extended universe did
how have we gone three separate trilogies without even daring to question its existence once?

gross dude

KOTOR as a series makes me sad. KOTOR1 reminds me when BioWare could still make things worth a damn. KOTOR2 reminds me what Obsidian has become. TOR is just another reminder where the series has gone.

KOTOR3 by Larian Studios when?

It is literally unfinished.

SWTOR is better. Prove me wrong.

To this day I'm impressed with how they managed to create a pretty much new setting that still feels perfectly star wars-y. Unlike those hacks who copy pasted x-wings and all the other shit from the original trilogy

>KOTOR3 by Larian Studios when?
Why, so we can have even goofier and immature writing than Bioware?
Just because Bioware and Obsidian are shit doesn’t excuse Larian’s godawful writing

redpill me on the current state of SWTOR

Best starwars RPG out, double xp right now so if you have a sub you can level doing only the class quests.

KoTOR 2 is the best Star Wars story ever written. The game suffers quite a bit due to being rushed, but that story is phenomenal. My favorite Star Wars game by far. I wish it would be remade free from any bullshit Disney oversight.

the game practically plays itself, 6 class stories out of 8 are either impossibly stupid, impossibly generic, or impossibly boring, and the expansion stories are so incredibly stupid it's insulting to even consider them part of Star Wars.

They also totally cucked Revan and even more purposely gave a lame as fuck ending to The Exile because they were salty KoTOR 2 was better than what they did.

I must admit I unironically prefer Obsidian stuff over any pre-EA (and obviously post-EA too) Bioware, even though every single Obsidian game is an unfinished product. But in terms of what they present, it's somehow quite addicting despite often having funky gameplay issues. Alpha Protocol despite being full of bugs was one of the best games I ever played, despite being short and having lots and lots of bugs and gameplay annoyances. But fortunately I always play stealth+pistol so it barely ever even bothered me. Finally managing to kill that one guy in the museum there where he normally manages to escape was so damn satisfying.

Deader than Dantooine on a moonless night.

meant for

>that pic
This has to happen. Siege with SW gadgets and maps would be goat FPS for me.

KOTOR2 isn't terrible but fuck I wish they didn't rush it. Could've been a solid 11/10 if they finished it up.

1 was much better

They didn't have a choice, publisher wanted it developed in literally a year and to be out by Christmas. It's absolutely amazing what they accomplished for the timeframe they were mandated. But yet, if it was given the time it needed, it would have been even more of a titan of a game.

>"the best game" is complete shit compared to its very prequel
hmm, really grinds those gears

the literal only thing KotOR1 has over 2 is a complete story. Which is pretty significant, true, but 2 is otherwise better in every single way.

nah, 1 shits all over it in every aspect except superficial shit like the number of perks

I think 1's story is so trite that I think I still like 2's story more even without the RCM.

The RCM is mandatory for 2 imo and I don't know why they haven't just added it to the base game yet. The story is just so much better with the mod.

I put KOTOR 1 and 2 a lot in high regard due to how much it captured and immersed myself in the Star Wars universe. The feelings I expected to feel when I'm journeying criminal underworld SW, the mysterious ruins of old history, an oppressed planet under Empire/Sith rule, etc. were very well met.

At the time they were released, it was truly a dream made real. A competent SW RPG that not only captured the setting but also really stood out of the fray of licensed titles. Just really good games. Shame where it all went.

But kotor 1 didn't have a good story. If it came out today people would criticize it for having the same problems as TFA. It's only remembered because twists weren't leaked 6 months in advance back then.

2 has considerably better gameplay.

2 didn't either. And none of the SW movies did. It was an adequate framework for a planet-hopping galactic adventure with some mystery and a clever twist. Making it the best of the bunch anyway.

They're both good it mostly comes down to personal choice.

KOTOR
>Great game that feels like a star wars movie (in a good way)
>However its' slavish faithfulness to the source material holds it back from engaging in any thoughtful plot points
>Nice twist that unfortunately now is like Bruce willis was dead all along or aeris dies.
>Stronger overall cast of characters than kotor 2.
>Generic main villain, a clear vader expy.

KOTOR 2
>Attempts to deconstruct the morality and conflict of the source material. Much more ambitious plot even if it misses the mark personally
>Horribly rushed to release resulting in a story that intrigues but ultimately suffers from being gutted in development.
>Stronger individual characters than the first game (Kreia, Atton Rand, Bao Dur) but overall cast is weaker.
>Based main villain in Kreia
>Much better choice of builds, skills and perks that make for more interesting combat.
>H O R R I B L Y U N F I N I S H E D

For what it is I think the second is better with the restoration mod and i personally like it more but it's hard to claim that it's a better game than the first when it's a broken mess without patching and using a whole restoration patch the devs themselves had to release to make it coherent

>better individual characters but weaker overall cast
I really do not understand this point at all

Despite the hate SWTOR gets I really like Valkorion. His overall story is pretty decent and I like how he obtains omnipotence through balance of the force.

>he obtains omnipotence through balance of the force.
that's not how he did, he's pure dark side. He just ate a couple planets' worth of people's souls.

I mean that the second game has some characters that are much higher quality than the first game in terms of writing but in terms of quantity has many more forgettable characters.

This is just not true. You can argue about the story, but the leveling mechanics are objectively better in 2.

how was it unique? at least kotor 1 was a finished product

Really? I always thought he started as a sith and morally aligns with them, but wasn't able to obtain immortality until he mastered the light side. He chastises you constantly throughout the game for trying to utilize one rather than both when fighting his offspring's.

Like a couple 10/10 characters in 2, and a full cast of 7/10s in 1, or something.

idk man I literally remember the Czerka Corp. waifu more than I remember the admiral in charge of Malak's ship

nope. I have no fucking idea where you got any of that shit, he was always pure dark side through and through.

forgetting droidworks for raddest overall

KOTOR 1 is not that different in that regard. T3 has no character at all in that game making him pretty forgettable, Zaalbar gets nothing outside of Kashyyyk and maybe it's just me but I find myself constantly forgetting that Juhani exists.

This is a very good post. I would add that the atmosphere and OST of the first was much stronger. Jeremy Soule was on-point with it, and this is his best work along with Oblivion

>constantly forgetting that Juhani exists
Can confirm that its not just you

You're right. Well then I recant my former statement. Valkorion is just a shitty Nihilus rip off. What a bunch of hacks.

Is that cause you played it more though?

I honestly can't remember both games too much anymore as i've not played them in years, I've played through both two times a piece and the characters that most stick with me are Kreia, Mission, Bastila, Atton, HK-47, Bao Dur and Mandalore.

Yes, to be honest most characters in 2 that aren't Kreia, Atton, Boa Dur, Visas, Nihlus, Sion, Mandalore and Atreus are forgettable imo, but i like these characters more than any in the first game except Mandalore who obviously is just old and even more cynical Canderous.

Maybe it's more accurate to say that two had much better villains and one had much better heroes which actually fits the tone of both games much better

Nihilus was an imperfect version of what Vitiate/Valkorion became.

But yes, Valkorion is fucking stupid as a character.

Mira's great.

>best party member is also best villain but is actually just a mentor through and through

Couldn't remember her at all, don't think I liked her.

Not sure what you're implying but I agree with the statement. I like that you can prompt Kreia to be like yeah I fucking hate the force mate you just do you and don't be influenced by both of these hypocritical dumb dogmatic orders. true real life advice really

No, he's so pure dark side that if you played throughout the Jedi Knight story he attempted dark side rituals via mass deaths to gain power and make himself immortal. He also used to be a sith pureblood concerning his original body and has absolute contempt for everyone but himself.

It's disgusting how lazy his character is.

So I want to play this game, I've had it on Steam for years, and it fucked up for me.
On the menus, they constantly scroll down, and my character is constantly running backwards.
I cannot seem to fix this issue.
I have nothing plugged into my USB Except a mouse.
Any tips?
