I just started on DQ 2 and so far I'm liking it more than the first, mostly because there are multiple party members.

How far are you in it? While slightly annoying everything honestly goes to shit once the boat hits. Since the game does from having a direction to "fuck you explore the world and search every tile just in case"

I'm not sure how I feel about DQ threads becoming more common.
It was similarly nice with Xenoblade at first after Shulk's announcement for Smash, but that fanbase quickly devolved to one of the most cancerous and shitflinging groups on Yea Forums.
Same thing happened with Monster Hunter, 4U made the threads more frequent and then World made the fanbase obnoxious as fuck as well.

Think the issue there is the series went to shit. Xenoblade X was fun for me but fucking hell Xenoblade 2 was fucking awful to me.

Monster Hunter was great but World made me not really care much for the series (GU however is great).

Dragon Quest however is a series that always knew what it was and kept the series from going to shit.

Fire Emblem had pretty nice threads and a vg before 13. I played a lot with v and vg in 4u, and it was still good threads and such, but World changed that.

Playing 4U with Yea Forums is some of the most fun I've had here outside of E3.

I remember plenty of xenoblades before shulk's inclusion, I just wasn't reading the threads at the time.

They were relatively small time with 1 and got a little more common with X due to potatochan and the localization, but it wasn't until smash and XB2 that they really blew up.

My vote goes to 9 since he defeats Corvus, who defeated the Almighty while being chained up like 7 or 8 floors underground for a few hundred years. I really think Corvus is underrated in terms of power level. He did something pretty crazy. I mean even Orgodemir has to wage an entire war and was like sealed away in the process. Corvus just used the power of anger to just shoot some laser beams into the heavens to defeat the Almighty and then reanimated an empire. That's pretty strong if you ask me. 11 could also be up there since he defeats Calasmos and that seems like some cosmic ancient evil since you fight it in what seems like space.

I hope S fixes that a bit, although I really don't think like it will.

I feel like Disco Stew really captures the silliness of DQ so I like it more. Plus I think Stella is entertaining.

There's not a whole lot wrong with the NES version of DQ3. It's slightly more grindy and lack of a map but it's 100% enjoyable. Same goes with DQ4 NES (honestly I rather play that version over the DS/mobile version)

I don't hate accents. Post DQ4DS they handled it fine. It's just DQ4DS goes so fucking overboard it's just not fun to walk around talking to NPC. Which is pretty bad since that's kind of a big thing with Dragon Quest.

Both are based and redpilled.
I always go with the NES version of IV because of the remake accents, heck right now i even trying to learn Japanese just so i can play the PSONE remake.
If people is interested on playing the NES version i recommend to use a game shark code to allow the player picking the moves of the characters, the code is YYEXVTGE, use the code after playing the game as the developers intended because they become quite different experiences.

It really is annoying since DQ4 on NES back when I played it as a kid was one of my favorite. So I was super excited for the DS remake. Only for the game to just be a chore to play because of that. Would love to learn Japanese for that but feel I'm way too old to do that. Plus there's not a whole lot of games that are only stuck in Japan that I can't enjoy. Or at least my backlog is too long to even consider taking at least 2 years just to get the basic of Dragon Quest.

It was the first Dragon Quest game since the original that actually got a modicum of marketing in the West.
Also, it was the first game in the series that was released in Europe.

DQ8 is just a well made JRPG and at the time what DQ8 did with it's big open world in beautiful 3D was incredible. But if you try comparing DQ8 with the other games in the series it's easy to put it lower.

Yeah 11 blew me away. Damn good game and if not for 9, it would be my fav DQ game. I love roleplaying and I'm getting into DnD character making so my love for DQ9 is getting stronger each and every day. I'm playing it right now actually.

I would rather play 1 and 2 again than go back to 6, which is why 6 is so far down. It's just so boring and tedious to me.

I have over 250 hours in DQ9 across multiple save files over the years (bought it on release and then I put a copy of it on flash carts a year later) all single player. why don't you just get DQ 1 and II on your phone? the ports really weren't bad at all. lots of people get annoyed with the olde english talk but I managed just fine.

They are worth investing into, but the mobile versions have all the same stuff and they look and sound better.

Debora since I chose the other brides in the SNES version. Debora was the best since she was the most entertaining, and yeah I did make backup saves and marry the other wives in the DS version after Debora so I could see their new party chats too. Debora still wins for me.

I’ve actually always found the olde English in DQ to be charming personally, an element that gives the series its “flavour”, if you will.
Anyhow, call it autism, but I tend to enjoy trying to amass a physical collection of things, so long as I can actually get some use out of them. But if the mobile ports of I and II outclass the other versions of the games that much, perhaps I’ll look into it. I was only planning to get DQ IV on my phone, since apparently the DS version lacks party chat of all things, for some godforsaken reason.

I do wish DQ2 wasn't so annoying. DQ1 is grindy but can be beaten in a day and overall it's simple enough to be enjoyable if you can put yourself in that headspace in 1986. But DQ2...man they really needed an extra few month balancing all that shit out. Because everything coming together in DQ3 makes playing 1 and 2 so worth it. But only barely regarding DQ2.

Why doesn’t Amazon Canada ever have anything helpful. It’s endless suffering. There’s some copies of V DS and VIII 3DS I could get, a little more on the pricey side, but manageable. Quite a bit, you're about at the halfway point. Even more if you plan on the post game story which can take a few hours or longer depending on how much you need to grind to do the story important stuff. There's some good grinding spots though at least.

Yeah, also make sure you do the cash and carrie quest because then you'll unlockthr casino and if youre playing the 3DS port you can exploit the shit out of the quicksave feature and win a shit ton of tokens to buy a bunch of prayer rings that you can sell to make crazy bank to buy better armor or weapons. Hell you can make enough tokens to get the metal slime armor which is one of the strongest armors in the game. Make sure you play the roulette wheel though.

I used this video for the money making strategy and made half a million gold AND enough tokens to buy my I think whole party slime armor in about an hour or so

Yeah man, I was hurting for cash pretty bad amd looked up quick ways to make gold. Casino's the way to go, it takes some luck and time but once you get the ball rolling it'll be worth it. Just have patience and make sure you quick save after every successful spin so you don't lose any tokens amd only gain them. If your stats suck you can at least make some money to buff your team.

I just beat 11 yesterday. The ending was amazing. You should definitely at least play 1 and 3 for a bit before playing it.
