Fortnite

You're pretty autistic yourself OP

Don't know but at least smogon attempts to make a broken ass game playable

making a thread on Yea Forums whining about it

Getting asshurt that the fact people are playing pokemon competitively.

and look at all the pushback they get from fans.

look at the pushback gamefreak themselves got for banning 600 mons. lol, fans are dumb collectors not competitive battlers.

Op

>Franchise built around monsters fighting each other as a h o b b y.
>I know, let’s have an in-universe school dedicated to teaching this h o b b y.

I really don’t get this shit.

Competitive Overwatch

Art schools are a thing in real life user

It's literally the opposite, fucking everything is pokemon related and everyone is a trainer

Minecraft and sonic are up there.

Hypernormies that think anything and everything can't be competitive

Sonic fans

The fact that single battles are still their primary metagame despite the single battle format being unrecoverable for at least 3 generations
The single battle format isn't very competitive because half of it is sheer luck and guesswork.

Speedruns

and it's a scam

How the fuck do you even play competitive Pokemon. That's like playing competitive RPS.

Breeding Pokemon
Shiny Hunting

THIS

At least CAP is fun. Somewhat.

Attached: 1557511882112m.jpg (1024x768, 110K)

It's funny because people that have played the meta would disagree with you, saying the game is more complex that just type matchups, which is true
However, veterans eventually realize that at the end of the day the whole game really is just trying to outguess the opponent, and it downgrades from RPS to coin-flipping

The fact that there will be a limited amount of pokemon shows gamefreak pissing all over this self made meta shit and having the company control it.

Good riddance /spit on smogon

Wow.
It's almost like you have to finally realize and clear out where your game primarily stands. In the single-player storytelling aspect, or the multiplayer competitive one?

Attached: 1554454063543.png (1276x720, 1.05M)

>he doesn't know

No. People who play competitive Pokémon are pure trash. They ruin the Pokémon communities and the fanbase, they hate any kind of interesting change to the gameplay (which is extremely outdated), which is why the game is exactly the same after 20 years and they make playing online impossible unless you dedicate half your free time to understanding how to make the perfect Pokémon and the perfect strategy.

Can someone explain to me why abilities like shadow tag and arena trap are banned?

Attached: 1462208736621.jpg (400x323, 51K)

I don't think double battles are doing much better, with the gen 3 legendarys being everywhere.

You realize that the meta would just revolve around the limited pool, right? They did this for LGPE.
Besides, Showdown already said they'd have a "National Dex" meta where all Pokemon would be include, and I presume Megas and Z-Moves

Two Wobbuffets with the ability and holding leftovers instantly turned the match into a draw as neither could kill the other or switch out.

Wouldn't they eventually have to use struggle?

I’ve played smogon for a while, bounced between 1350-1500 (which is like 300ish points off from top 500 in OU) til I had to deal with IRL shit and forget. The game is pretty about reading what your opponent is gonna do next. Out of the thousandish Pokémon that exist only 100ish are remotely viable within a given tier.

pokemonshowdown.com/users/UnzipsCrogre My account btw

I like their site as just a quick indicator to how much potential a Pokémon really has when I bring one online
Other than that I can’t see why anyone would vow to follow their battling rules and advice like it’s the Quran of a children’s collection game

I'm pretty sure Shadow Tag got updated in the games to make an exception for mirror scenarios like that
Besides the real reason iirc is that it's just too strong and gives you immense control over the flow of the battle.

>shadow tag
because it creates a permanent "you lose" condition on a wide variety of pokemon with no real counterplay other than to just never bring them in
>arena trap
because theyre fags that dont even understand their own bans lmao
speed boost is fine btw, ban baton pass

Switching to a better matchup is roughly 65% of the singles meta, and those abilities prevent that

Also the wobuffet thing got fixed ages ago, if two shadow tags run into each other they cancel out and either side can switch

>shadow tag
>trick choice item
>boost boost boost boost boost

Leftovers healed more than Struggle did, but this only applies to Gen 3 because now if two mons have Shadow Tag it cancels out
Speed Boost isn't banned, only Blaziken specifically

>Switching to a better matchup is roughly 65% of the singles meta,
That's stupid

Singles is pretty stupid, which is why it's the one with the most rules and restrictions.
Doubles is a lot less of a gamble and is more fun overall

whats the alternative dude
protect 50/50s?

There are a lot of situations where switching is the only option or even just a better option that keeps the opponent guessing (eg ground type switching into a Thunder to block it.)

Fuck Smogon, they're retarded unskilled autists who banned Greninja because they're too retarded, stupid and unskilled to be able to deal with it.

This shit was amazing in 4th grade

Competitive smash. It's so slow and dull

What the hell does Greninja have in his kit that's ban worthy?

One of the best abilities in the game.

Attached: ehrvy8pjkgo21.jpg (446x885, 53K)

Protean?

Except that's a normal thing that outnumbers the number of people that plays pokemon.

Two completely different ways to play it that at first look identical, and one of those ways is already one of the most unpredictable mons in the game because of its godly ability.
Greninja is not currently banned from OU but it was in Gen VI, making it and Blaziken the only two starters to have been in Ubers

>competitive overwatch

Attached: Gon2.jpg (1030x1028, 113K)

Sonic OCs

This.

Attached: The absolute state of the Overwatch League.png (812x457, 80K)

It just dabbed on most mons with Life Orb and massive coverage with permanent STAB and something SE for pretty much any situation. Fairies used to block it, but it got Gunk Shot so that stopped working too. Basically the ban boiled down to "muh centralization" since only stall and shit like Porygon2 and Tentacruel could stop it without priority.

>Is there anything more autistic than competitive Pokemon?
smash rosterfags

Is this recent? Wasn't Doomfist one of the best characters in the game not that long ago?

Which is why Singles is trash

no knowledge of Overwatch but why is it like this? don't they balance around this?

Based and Redpilled, the best artists were self taught.

>use double team

Examples?

And now they are slowly banning stall as well

please somebody explain to me the appeal of competitive overwatch. how do you get yourself to watching the same boring comps...

The logical extreme of rock RPS gameplay + certain characters completely outclassing others niche

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
why is one poc is useful and the rest is trash?

>Uses swift

nothing personnel

he is the best healer. that's a no brainer.

Digimon-chad here. Whats Protean?

>blocks your path

Attached: Chancer.jpg (438x154, 15K)

How come no one ever brings up VGC?

>People said his art was shit
Unironically why?

>showderp
>Male chanseys

there is a problem but i can't put my finger on it.

it's an ability which changes your Pokemon's type to match the type of attack it uses, effectively giving you +50% attack bonus on non water/dark attacks, as well as letting you resist types that normally murder you

because he's Literally Hitler.

Your typing changes to the type of any move you use.
STAB on everything and the ability to switch resistances on the fly, especially on a fast mon like Greninja, makes it very difficult to deal with.

Pokemon Showdown is miles better than any Pokemon game recently and much more strategic and in-depth than "grind and spam one move all game"

Because it was shit

He was good at landscapes but not good at drawing people.

>go to art school to improve your skills
>sorry we can't help you

competitive kart racers

Attached: 1560976662139.jpg (744x1024, 82K)

Doubles has twice the RNG in every turn and RNG fucks you over even harder than in singles due to the fact that you're dealing with 2 Pokemon instead of one

what's Crash secret to manage to get someone like her? are tall women into manlets? this is the case of paige and pat, too.

Pokémons dead friendo

the crash furries are all genetic mutants. tanya is just a sexy bitch because of it

I thought her name was Tawna

That is pretty much it, really just another game of rock-paper-scizors

Attached: har.jpg (600x600, 35K)

At the top level of pro play, the game is solved. Full stop.
GOATS comp involves 3 healers and 3 tanks. DPS characters CANNOT out-damage a team with 3 healers.
Additionally, all of the heroes in GOATS (Lucio, Zenyatta, Briggitte, Reinhardt, Zarya, D.Va) have good ultimates that protect their team or setup a win for a teamfight.
Blizzard has tried to buff non-GOATS heroes and nerf some of the meta heroes to address this, but even 2 stages later the hero pick graph for OWL looks just like the one I posted.
There's a sect of rabid OWL fans that are excited by the league. Most of them have little-to-no prior FPS experience and just feel like watching the best in the world play Overwatch.

The 6v6 format got hit hard because of team preview. Gen 4 was amazing in terms of teambuilding because you had to account for every single possibility and surprise the opponent could bring to the table. As soon as team preview was installed, 6v6 became completely stale.

Team preview only works in 3v3 and 4v4 Doubles, a game as early as Stadium had already proved that.

Doubles is awful; the game was never meant to played using doubles.

it is, I call her Tanya cause i don't care thou.

Because retards think anything he did must be bad just because he justifiably hated Jews.

imagine being this wrong

extreme incompetence
to fix this requires them to address core issues with how theyve balanced the game (fixation on stuns/ults as a way to "address problems", overtuned damage output relative to average hp amounts, EXTREMELY overtuned heal output, especially relative to skill requirement)
what they want to do is UNGA SMASH NERF one character at a time unit the problem is magically solved, all while buffing dev favorites at complete random and expecting nothing bad to happen as a result
this has worked out about as well as youd expect, and likely cost them as a company literal millions because of the floundering esport ponzi bullshit
the person responsible is both still employed and has held the same position for the full duration of the games lifetime
blizzard entertainment, tm

>Is there anything more autistic than competitive Pokemon?
yes, playing pokemon uncompetitively

Imagine unironically playing the VGC.

That was a nice argument, very convincing.

The gap between gen4 and 5 is mostly because of weather wars and a bunch of other bullshit Pokemon that had little counter play by comparison that were allowed.

>The single battle format isn't very competitive because half of it is sheer luck and guesswork.
as if this isn't also the case in doubles where every mon is packing protect

Because gothitelle made any defensive cores unplayable since it could use shadow tag with a choice item and boost up to use calm mind and rest to become an unkillable god and you couldnt do anything about it because you were trapped. Arena trap was even worse, if you had a heatran you just couldnt set up rocks against a team with duggy on it or else you lose your heatran. Heatran was the best counter in the game to sableye stall so duggy stall was pretty unbearable. To put it into perspective, stall players can afford to make the safe play every turn but the offense and balance players have to predict to get any sort of progress. If the stall player makes 1 good prediction then the offense player just loses a pokemon to the dugtrio on the double switch. Its insanely unbalanced how much reward the stall player gets for a prediction compared to the other players, and since dugtrio doesnt do anything against stall teams, the unbalance was very one sided

Its movepool allowed it to beat all of its counters and unless you had ditto you didnt know its coverage. It was basically to gen 6 what magearna is now.

Wow, really? Guess the leadership has changed. Back in fourth gen, they wanted to move Salamence to Uber and it was widely seen as trying to force third gen style stall down everyone's throats. I think it came up that several of the people who were behind that decision were prominent third gen players? It's been a while.

Latias has also been unbanned from gen4 OU in the past few months.

Because trapping is too powerful, it's too easy to force a situation where you get to setup for free or revenge kill something. It's mostly Gothitelle and Dugtrio that are the problem. Outside of gen 3 Wobbufet is complete trash even with shadow tag.

replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-ou-39893

To push him to greater things.

Not making dickloads of money after graduating doesnt mean it's a scam. If you try to major in fine arts. Good fucking luck. Before the whole digital art era, if you wanted to do art as a career, you were really about it. There's a reason why we have the term "starving artist."

Fortunately, things are so much better than before. Fanart has become a viable to earn money online.

Yes, some art schools are scams. Some of the Teachers aren't exactly the best teachers. And it could be pretty damn expensive. But most of these things could be said of other schools.

He was nerfed cause low mobility heroes(zen, ana) were free kills for him.
He wasnt the best but the meta at this time favored him greatly.

>It's almost like you have to finally realize and clear out where your game primarily stands. In the single-player storytelling aspect, or the multiplayer competitive one?
Game Freak excels at neither.

still seething, adolf?

that is fucking hilarious
>all he did was use stealth rock and he lost
that had me rolling

Anyone remembers when based Dennis caused Smogon to make a ridiculous complex ban on Baton Pass

Attached: f16.jpg (500x500, 30K)

See, when you say balance, you're assuming some kind of situation where
>wow this character isn't being used at all
>wow this character is being used too much
And you assume they balance until everybody is somewhere near regular viability.
In Smash Ultimate for example, they've talked post-launch about how character usage and win rates online are all pretty close to the median, which is pretty amazing for a game with near 80 fighters.

Overwatch's problem, and Blizzard's problem even before OW was a thing, was that they don't really balance for equal viability, they just buff somebody to an absurd point that a new meta is focused entirely around what they just did. As an example, Junkrat is kind of like the demoman of Overwatch, in that he has Demoman's basic kit of a grenade launcher and remote explosives. Not used too often, too spammy to be useful.
One day they decided to buff him
>give him a second remote mine, so now he can use one for super mobility and then another one he can just throw in players' faces, which is almost a guaranteed one hit kill for most characters in OW
>remove self-damage
Now you have an explosives using character that doesn't have to worry about his own bombs, and since he even has a "bombs on death" ability, he can literally just wander up to people and jizz explosives in their faces.
And unlike Demoman, he loads his grenade launcher to 100% in one go with trivial reload times.
So this made Junkrat shoot up from trivial usage all the way to being constantly used by everyone for a while.

Balance is a foreign word to Blizzard.

the other one that gets me - the initial problem with Rein and having a shield worth 2000 points made him a requirement for all teams. What do Blizzard do? not tackle the inherent problem with the shield, but add ANOTHER hero (Orisa) so that "players don't need to be pressured into needing to pick only one tank!" Now you have teams that pick both so there are more shields than ever making only very select players viable as NOTHING can get through a shield

Wait I'm confused, encore ended yet Ladorus still did nothing but stealth rock?

He was tricked a Scarf

Pokemon's one of the most horribly balanced games I've ever played in my life

Look at just how many tiers and clauses and whatnot Smogon has to Pokemon somewhat reasonable

I missed the part, while also not knowing what Choice Scarf does.

I had the opportunity in high school and quite a few people behind me pushing me to go to art school.
My take was that the world of art in my lifetime would be essentially ruined by the internet, or not so much ruined as changed, and that it would be basically impossible to fund even one person's livelihood drawing unless I got into lewds.
Thank fuck I'm functionally competent and went the engineer route.

Attached: 9PetHdf2_400x400.jpg (400x400, 31K)

Honestly this is more just a fundamental issue with Overwatch in that it's balanced around
>everyone can reload their entire weapon pretty much quasi-instantly
>everything is balanced actively around abilities with cooldown times and ultimates that don't decay or drop at all, rather than most other FPSs being balanced passively around character's innate qualities
Compare something like TF2
>Soldier and Heavy are "tanky" classes by virtue of them having more health than everyone else, not by them having a shield or armor or something
>Scout and Demoman have enormous damage output, but also have a tradeoff of scout having low durability, and demoman not having a good way of attacking directly outside of leading pipe bombs really well
>the game is balanced around a medic that will lose his ubercharge if he dies

Or even Counter-Strike with stuff like the AWP crippling mobility and needing quite a while to cycle to get another shot off.

In Overwatch, characters are tanks, and they have shielding abilities, and those shields will stop whatever you shoot at them up to a point and that's just the way the game is.

To be fair, the lower tiers are just to give weaker mons a chance to shine. OU is the central tier, and is what the community mostly focuses around.

Tiers and banned mechanics are common in competitive games.

Competitive Smash, it's the same shit as pokemon, except smashfags genuinely believe it is not just the best fighting game ever but the best video game ever

You can still draw, improve and get fun/praise out of it, you are not forced to quit your lifestyle or job to pursue art.
I don't get it why people are these retards that think you can do one thing and only that at the time.

But smogon seems a bit to ban happy

Banned mechanics are extremely rare, even banned characters aren't particularly common either, especially in modern competitive games
Tiers in other games are guides to showing how good one character is compared to the rest, in smogon it is another banlist because the lower tier pokemon need the higher ones to be completely gone in order for them to be useable

>smogon seems a bit too ban happ-

Attached: pex.jpg (433x329, 22K)

not really, remember pokemon has an assload of characters, banning 40 of them is about equivalent to another game banning 1 or 2
and most bans are on mons which were purposely by gf designed to be op (mega-rayquaza)

Explain further
But when you start to ban abilities or combos (like drizzle and swift swim)?

Abilities only get banned if they're really bad (moody or shadow tag).
Drizzleswim was a ban solely for Gen V, because the combo with infinite weather really was too much. After the weather nerf in later gens, it stopped being necessary.

He didn't suck the right dicks. Remember, Picasso was also pretty mediocre when it came to drawing people.

Attached: file.png (427x650, 484K)

nobody ever said gf is good or heck competent at balancing
and during gen 5 (the only gen where that ban was active mind you) it was either that or ban swift swim outright

If your not doing fanart or Lewds, your going to have a hard time making art as a career. More so than it already is. Shit is too luck based imo. It's the weirdest shit. A lot of is just trend hopping.

I've seen mediocre/average artist get huge followings, then ppl who are immensely better than them.

All and all, it still makes for a good side hustle.

Smash

>that feel when your favorite Pokemon won't get a mega
Although I heard that Quagsire can best be described us "goes wherever he wants and then the meta has to figure out a way to deal with him one way or the other"

Attached: quagsire.jpg (842x1000, 101K)

Quagsire an enigma that keeps seeing play in high level despite not being that good.

Which is why he should have gotten a mega form that boosts all his stats and his abilities causes confusion to everyone.

YOU HAVE A BOARD FOR THIS
SHITDICK

Hang yourself

If you can't even break into top 500 EVER then there is something fundamentally wrong with your understanding of the game.

>the single-player storytelling aspect
Are you implying that's what makes pokemon good?

This. At least on Pokemon you are your own to find multiple ways to counter endless combinations of teams.

Competitive Smash after Brawl.
Smash 4 and Ultimate are the most shallow fighting games in existence and their patch culture is a joke.

Smogon singles is the only truly autistic format.

That would make things easier for Smogon.

OU is basically Ubers lite because of the sheer number of legendaries/Megas Game Freak has released over the years. Shadow Tag and Arena Trap had to be banned because nearly every offensive Pokemon is one removed check away from 6-0ing.

Shadow Tag and Arena Trap were banned because the only possible way 6v6 singles works as a format is if you're allowed to switch. It's the glue holding that pile of shit together.

Do you even know what was going on? encore and then scarf locked Lando on stealth rock

If one wants to get into comp pokemon where does one start

Because it worked so well for prebank XY, or all the VGC leagues they've had with restricted pokemon lists
lmao

just use aggrno my brother told me hes reylly good against everything

Smogon's forums have a lot of resources for any format, including VGC if that's what you're into.

You quit showering and then EV train your digital autistic digimon misfits and then you play an RNG game and hope you get lucky and win.

Have sex.

Smogon's greatest mistake was not quickbanning drizzle. You know it. I know it.

Just go to Pokemon Showdown and play random battles.
Once you've got a basic understanding, just find a sample team, or try making your own, and see how you do with that.

>not Scald

Then why hasn't Pursuit and Magnet Pull been banned, and why is Arena Trap still legal from Gen 3-5?

Fuck you double nigger and fuck masuda for standardizing double battles for double niggers like you

Patch culture is the absolute worst in Smash. Smash players are the biggest Johners. Holy Shit. It doesn't help that Top Players run on TwitterJohning every time they lose, which gives lower lvl players conformation bias.

I finally realized why ppl think Ultimate is campy. I didn't see it at first, but man, everything in this game feels crazy safe. Whiff punishg is too damn good in Ultimate.

whats autistic about competitive pokemon? its just some fun community mode that people can enjoy in one of their favourite franchises

Magnet Pull works on one type of Pokemon and is tied to one meh Mon. Pursuit is only really shines when you trap someone weak to it or to checkmate a weakened Mon and takes a correct prediction or you just wasted your turn using a shitty 40bp move.

>why is Arena Trap still legal from Gen 3-5?
Dugtrio got a buff. That's it. Though there might be more to it. I stopped playing competitive pokeman by 6th gen.

>is tied to one meh Mon
Which is enough to give it OU status

it takes effort, dedication and memorization and all those things are cringe and autistic
