Second easiest job in the game after DRG. They just hit the same 6 buttons over and over basically playing whack-a-mole with whatever is lighting up and pressing OGCDs until it's melee combo time.

Honestly the only reason DRG can even be considered easier is because their rotation is 100% muscle memory with zero deviation and you never even have to look at your skills.

That's what I'm saying. SB DRK was alright as something to switch to every now and then if you exclusively play WAR or PLD and just want a side tank to goof off on. I actually really liked playing DRK in dungeons more than the other two tanks.
But as a "main" job, something you play all the time at a serious/focused level? Fuck no. Square needs to learn that the way to add depth to a job isn't exclusively done through numbers. I need more shit to do than just going through a fixed rotation of ONE OR TWO ABILITIES and fucking OGCD bullshit. That's actually how I feel about PLD's basic bitch rotation, but I still primarily play it just because it's the least effort a lot of the time. DRK's lack of damage mitigation made it require a lot more situational awareness than the other tanks imo and that made it more fun to me, even in raids. As flawed as 4.0 DRK is, 5.0 is so blatantly boring looking.

Barring ARR content, there's never really been a moment where damage has occured that didn't require my attention.

And if your familiar with the genre, it's easy to understand why fans of the genre gravitate so much towards Roegadyn males and the Hrothgar.

In the gaming industry, it's difficult to find bara content, Final Fantasy XIV being the only game at least in the MMO scene that offers healthy and diverse options for Bara Rp and fantasy. It's a genre that is completely overshadowed by heteronormative ideologies and yaoi content, as people believe men shouldn't be muscular or chubby, rather they must be feminine with fem like features...and straight.

Hrothgar to us in the genre is a breath of fresh air. It gets tiring and exhausting being around cat girls and lady elves all day. You go into any server, you see cats girls and lady humans. You may see 1 or 2 Male Roe, if you see more than that take pictures as it's an anomaly that will never happen again. Hopefully with the arrival of this race we will see a nice boom in beastmen roaming the lands of Eorzea.

So hopefully this has given you some insight as to why the Male Roes are so hyped for Hrothgar and perhaps educated yourself on the Bara genre.

SMN and RDM are flexible. Just don't do clear with RDM. BRD and DNC are also flexible and are more tailored to their comp. (MNK + BRD) and (SAM + DNC)

This is the #1 reason SE needs to be more upfront about job changes ahead of time, in order to get more feedback. They cling too much to the ideal of not revealing things that aren't finalized, but it's clearly not working in anyone's favor. Now, if any job ends up being underwhelming in playstyle, we have to wait another 2 years for them to "fix" it, and the process starts all over again.

Or the other possibility that DRK simply does not work as a concept in this game. A Blood Tank or Blood DD doesn't work with the mechanics, and that's kind of been their gimmick in the series. Sure, a lot of jobs in this game take liberties with identity to conform to the design, but they should've looked elsewhere for tank ideas. Especially if they struggle with tanking concepts in the first place; there are only so many ways you can mitigate damage, after all.

You only do it once in your opener, and even if you wait the whole three seconds it's still 3% more DPS than any other opener, and if you get it on the server tick then it's 5% so you don't lose much. The job is not complicated in the slightest anymore, even with Anatman. I can understand not doing TK because it looks intimidating, but people have no excuse for not using Anatman ONCE THE ENTIRE FIGHT NOW THAT THERES ONE MILLION WAYS TO HOLD GREASED LIGHTNING

Healing in pugs is a different beast because randoms can be completely pants-on-head retarded. It's tempting to just drop a regen on them and leave them to figure out how to stop failing mechanics, but then you'll never fucking clear anything, even basic trial queue material.

Because of their amazing strategic importance. It's still a beacon that people can use to instantly teleport. It's just not meant for every single person to have inter continental travel. Their anima reserves wouldn't hold and they'd dissipate into the aetherstream. But just think of being able to move goods and troops instantly from point to point, even if you can only use it once a day.

People are overhyping DNC up so bad. They're not like AST where they just get 20% more raid dps over a WHM. It's a more support BRD and they can be exchanged for the other easily.

DNC has this dogshit 190 (PPS) compared to BRD's (230 PPS+) it makes it up by buffing. But even after that it's only comparable to BRD. Not straight up better.

It's getting updated is all we know. For all we know, they might not even increase the level cap and only add more ARR spells and Carnivale floors, or bump the level cap by 5 levels every odd patch, or just bump it to 70 in 5.1
The only concrete information we have is that it is getting updated in some form during 5.X, and that it will not reach 80 in 5.X

Dungeons are a bad indicator, but with all these new healing tools and with everyone getting free VIT I can imagine that the amount of healing needed will at least slightly increase. Not a massive amount, but maybe going from 10% healing gcds to 15-20% healing gcds.

The point of Dark Arts was as a new form of MP management, since Darkside no longer drains MP. I wasn't entirely against Dark Arts and it was never annoying for me to use, but I much preferred how punishing the old MP management was. Now, if your MP bottoms out, you just do the Syphon Strike combo once or twice and you're back in it, assuming you can't use Blood Price or Sole Survivor. In Heavensward, if your MP bottomed out, your Darkside would deactivate and you have to spend MP to turn it back on, which was a pain in the ass. It's upsetting that people are looking forward to Shadowbringers for removing shit like Protect and TP and claiming that it didn't do anything when it part of its purpose was to punish players for getting KO'd. If you were KO'd and you recently used Invigorate or Lucid Dreaming, you had fucked yourself over pretty bad. Now TP users will never have that concern, nor will it be the healer's job to re-apply Protect in the middle of battle or for another player to use Tactician. I want to have faith but the writing's on the wall. FF14 is being more casualized than ever before.

I think the idea of MNK is great and I feel that Tornado Kick is meant to go into Perfect Balance. However, I will agree that it rarely works out well, it's easy for MNK to lose his Greased Lightning inbetween boss phases which hurts him a lot, and MNK needs to work harder than any other job with no real damage to show for it. It's fun as hell when everything manages to line up but it's a pain in the ass more often than not.

WHM has had the highest personal DPS since HW, but the problem is that they can't actually utilize said DPS in actual fights due to having to split healing and DPS on GCD's and no option of offloading on oGCD like SCH can (and still will be able to in ShB, losing ED doesn't change this at all).
AST has and always will have the worst personal DPS, but they provide raid DPS, personal DPS and healing all efficiently, just not as efficient as SCH can. People never seem to understand what it is that makes AST and SCH so much more effective than WHM and the ShB changes do absolutely fucking nothing to change it because the XIV devs are clearly equally retarded.

If you’re a DPS job, then that’s normal. Queuing for specific, older content can take a while, especially when it’s Lv50/60 stuff as opposed to leveling dungeons. If you’re a tank or healer then that’s unusual and very unlucky to have to wait that long.

DNC will overshadow both, DNC will probably be toned down or others buffed up and it'll take at least 5.3 before public opinion resets for BRD.MCH will be cucked for another expansion.

Someone in the dev team certainly plays SCH considering it's been completely OP for 6 years and is going to go strong for another 2 years. But for the other two they either don't know what they are doing (WHM) or they just buff it til it's busted (AST). ShB will drag AST down a good notch but I find it doubtful it'll be worse than WHM as far as optimal setups go. At the end of the day, CU has a far lower CD than Temperance and Essential Dignity is superior to both Tetra and Benediction.

What? A few of the jobs questlines have been pretty good. The DRK stands out but the NIN questline had been pretty fun, BLM got interesting with the Shantotto line and MNK was great.

Yeah, but it only affected five abilities back then, if you’d even count Syphon Strike. Even then, people rarely used it beyond Dark Passenger and Carve & Spit, only using it for Souleater if they had MP to spare, or Abyssal Drain if they were doing massive pulls. That’s it though; Dark Arts wasn’t a big deal. Then Stormblood brought in the Bloodgauge and it’s not uncommon to rack up 50 Blood three times back to back. With Quietus, your MP shoots back up and Blackest Night makes Abyssal Drain obsolete. The new abilities made Dark Arts much stronger and it seems Square decided that there’d be too much going on on top of your MP constantly draining. Thus, they made Dark Arts affect a bunch of more abilities and I feel like that became the new focus for MP management, which was a mistake in my book. I’d prefer if DRK went back to a constant MP drain system, but instead DRK is getting some kind of Blood of the Dragon meter. Might be nice but I don’t think I like the sound of it.

It used to cost MP and was a really good tool for massive pulls. A DRK would get this huge group and spam only Dark Arts+Abyssal Drain while their HP would drop and rise constantly. As long as a couple of enemies would die before the DRK ran out of MP, then it'd be worth it as the damage received would start to drop. Worst comes to worst, Living Dead was a last resort. I remember doing this quite a bit for Baelsar's Wall during that last bit of the dungeon with all the false Alliance soldiers.

Now it's been dumbed down to a simple off cooldown ability. To be honest, it might not be such a bad change since Blackest Night made Abyssal Drain completely fucking obsolete, so I guess they might as well have changed it.

You don't need to play classes that are slightly better, you just need to be a good player. Some statics might be looking for specific classes (like RDM or SMN for progression raiding) but you can find a raid group if you look hard enough, even if you havent done any raids yet.

Look, I play all casters almost equally but I abandoned RDM after a while because it is quite simply underpowered compared to everyone else. Even a mediocre BLM will do much more DPS than a top tier RDM. Don't even get me started on SMN which does basically every single thing better than RDM in the first place. RDM has a tiny niche with chain resurrection which is frankly quite useless for anyone except world first speedrun groups who want to see as many mechanics as soon as possible.

I really wish the job was better because I like the aesthetic and overall playstyle but they will never give it a big buff because it's so braindead easy to play that they have to offset it somehow.

I recently leveled an alt. Played every weekend for around eight hours a day for a month, with some occasional roulette on weeknights.

It doesn't take too long, even watching the cutscenes. I made it through 2.0 in about a weekend, finished up 2.5 the next, then did all of HW and post HW next, and finally finished all of 4.0 and hit 70 afterwards. By the time I finished all of SB's postgame, my /playtime was about 4.5 days.

I mainly did it as a refresher for the story, but it was also good for having another character with their own weekly stuff and lockouts and for using a new set of retainers. Makes harvesting leather and mob drops real easy, almost makes me want to level more just so I can spam retainer ventures across them all, having 32-40 going at once would fill my inventory pretty quick.

That made sense though, Ilberd was an asspull. I wouldn't be surprised if they saw that Ethys got it right and then decided to change it.

The only thing we have even close to Ulduar would be something like Baldesion Arsenal, which had to be hidden behind layers of Eureka and require a semi-public world dungeon system in order to hide it from most players.
