Honestly, this is the route that I was hoping Pokemon would take in terms of a 2D overworld and art, and dynamic camera angles during battles.

Yes, it was damn good.
The soundtrack was great too.

It suffered from a poor endgame and shitty pacing.

Mon variety alone makes Dawn&Dusk better.

Attached: 1530297012519.png (638x448, 132K)

Dawn and Dusk had no soul though.

I got to the desert and quit due to boredom. It mostly makes me sad that Pokemon skipped the gen where it could have been 2D and not looked like shit at the same time.

actually no
what turned me off from the digimon PS1 games, were that they weren't related at all to each other, and each game was basically a different fucking genre.
I wanted the sequels to continue with the same virtual pet world style as the first one except improving what was bad in the first one and adding more digimon
also the Digimon CCG was one of the best games on the PS1

Try again, without the buzzword.

I enjoyed it as a kid, never finished it and now when I try to replay it I get bored a couple hours in

3 was a newgame+, more mon variety, and more endgame content (that doesn't involve looking under every rock for the legendary weapon crafters) away from perfection

Also really needed some proper form of quickly traveling from one city to another, like Fly. Or at least have an item that acts like Repel.

this was the game that made me despise random encounters for a good portion of my life

Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is the lamest shit ever, fight me.

Dawn and Dusk were slow, tedious busywork without a decent guiding narrative, fun side content, great music and a sense of place.

Both games are grindy bullshit, but Dusk/Dawn moreso, and DW3 had the decency to be worth a damn for anything other than completion autism.

Pokemon could have had DW3 style sprite art all the way back in Gen 4. GF is just lazy.

Honestly, I always picked Kumamon and it was only when I got older did I realize his EXP Gain rate was the slowest of all characters so the solo run I did was needlessly frustrating.

>evolution with the highest base stat improvement trivializes the game
no shit

Not what I meant. It's shit in all iterations. Making Omegamon/Omnimon job so you can recolor the new boy white is fucking garbage.

The overworld in this game is the definition of soul

Attached: 1561029844444.jpg (634x473, 54K)

>guiding narrative
i knew this was coming. both games are just a linear series of fetch quests, the only difference is that DW3 covers it in glitter to pretend it isn't. in fact it may as well not exist once you've experienced it once.
>fun side content
you mean the quest for the fishing pole and the kicking boots which you do in the first hour of gameplay, and then.... nothing until the legendary weapons? or the retarded card minigame where the enemies don't even shuffle their decks, and late-game just spam fucking broken cards?
>great music
just turn off the music and play the other one's. or whatever music you want really.
>and a sense of place
what does this even mean? the digital world is the least static place in any IP ever created. literally no two games have any recognizable locations.

The game looked fantastic and had an amazing atmosphere, I actually prefer this type of visuals over the full 3D we could have today

Attached: 1561030130103.png (640x480, 382K)

yeah
too bad backtracking and random encounter ruin it

holy shit this
i absolutely fucking hated being shoehorned into one of like three mons at the end of the game. legit lose all interest in replaying the game when regular megas start underperforming

I like the first 3 Digimon world games even if they're a bit rough around the edges. They're all 7/10 games but I see people hate the FUCK out of them and seriously don't get it.

All three of them are flat out more interesting than most pokemon games.

the card game was good, did it show up in any other games?

youtu.be/a72Pf-A_Hgs

Such a great adventurous theme

I need this game aesthetic, any others like it?

>the only difference is that DW3 covers it in glitter to pretend it isn't.
Yes, that's the point. There's actually something there. They give some details on the who-what-where-why to make it more bearable. Almost all of the DS games' plots are laid out right at the start. DW3 has actual twists and turns, shallow as they are.
>You mean the [content]?
Yes, I mean that. Which is more than DW DS has.
>JUST TURN THE MUSIC OFF BRO
Are you seriously fucking arguing this?
>WHAT DO YOU MEAN SENSE OF PLACE IT CHANGES EVERY GAME
Yeah, and in THAT game the setting is actually well defined. The MMO they're playing in has areas that have a bit more flavor than [jungle place] and [ruins place], a lot like DW1. They had the benefit of a longer dev period to actually flesh out locations a bit, as well as make a lot more NPCs and come up with cute details, like parts of the background loading in as a visualization of the MMO thing (and to cut down load times).

Again, you have to just want the collection autism to think Dusk/Dawn are better games, and when you're saying "DUDE JUST IGNORE THE GOOD ELEMENTS, MORE MONS" you're kind of proving my point.

That's what the fast forward button is for.

>The MMO they're playing in has areas that have a bit more flavor than [jungle place] and [ruins place], a lot like DW1.
insect forest place
ruins place
dinosaur mountain place
jungle swamp place
jungle place
desert place
factory place
snow place
every single place listed above, but with fucked up colors
epic nonargument

I don't understand how people can dislike DW3 but like Pokemon games, they have the exact same issues, except DW3 is not as braindead easy as Pokemon (big complaint in the community) yet they don't like that either.

>liking DW2

Attached: 1501697659652.jpg (351x351, 22K)

>Dude if I ignore all the NPCs and locations and the story and everything weird about these places they're just templates WOW!
Great argument. You missed the entire point.
The DS games have these kinds of locations as literally just the templates. DW3 at least bothers to do more with them and defines its setting in more detail.

oh yeah faggot #251531 that actually has nothing to do with the zone because he's just another MMO player like you saying he's gonna be the server/world champion before getting his two mons steamrolled by yours totally adds soul to a zone

>The faggot, angered by his inability to actually argue any of the points raised, resorts to extreme exaggeration to dismiss the flimsiest point presented.
You can pretend that DW3 has absolutely no flavor text if you like. You'd be wrong, but you're free to pretend. It'll help you cope with the fact that one licensed video game is a bit better than another despite having less collection elements.

Like fuck it was. The battle system whittled down to spamming your best move and recovery items. The amount of backtracking in the game was downright absurd. Having a second server that's almost identical to the original barring the colour scheme and area names was just stupid. The only saving graces were that the soundtrack, overworld design and spritework were fantastic.

Finished it more than once and I don't do this to any game if I didn't like it so much. I doubt we will have any digimon game that will rival it's world design anytime soon. This is how digimon games should be unlike the garbage cyber sleuth. DW3 was very good game for it's time of release.

Fuck the backtracking especially. The sheer amount of random encounters make it a living hell, even with the available dive/dig shortcuts.

>The battle system whittled down to spamming your best move and recovery items.
I mean that also describes FF7, and people love it.

>Having a second server that's almost identical to the original barring the colour scheme and area names was just stupid.
I mean that's how real servers work, they didn't need to go through the effort of recoloring and renaming them either

why are you so obsessed with passing MUH COLLESHUNS as a bad, faggot? it's a fucking monster hunting game

garbage game, mate
DW1 was the shitz

no.

its just a mystery dungeon game with digimon dude except its not extremely easy

Why do most Digimon games including Digimon world have such shit scores?

Are the games really that flawed? The only main thing that is considered decent is cyber

this game needs an encounter none ability like in FF8, or at least encounter half

I'm not presenting it as bad, I'm saying that it's the only appealing factor of that particular game over the other, and it goes full-blown autism due to the steep grind and endless grinding needed to actually get every form. It's only enough to win someone over if they care about that one element more than anything else that makes a JRPG interesting. In every other facet DW3 has it trumped.

Stop confusing X > Y for some kind of absolute statement on the quality of something being amazing or shit, you angry little faggot.

Cyber Sleuth is fucking garbage and I'm upset I was tricked into buying it.

No kidding, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea for this game. It's the "different colour makes for a more difficult enemy" trope blown up to a world-scale. It wasn't necessary at all.

Because they're contenders in a flawed genre but don't have the Pokemon/Nintendo/Square Enix bonus, rather they have the "perceived knockoff" minus. So when all of the games in a genre don't deserve more than an 8, Pokemon/FF will get a 9 or 10, Digimon well get a 6 or 7, regardless of their actual quality.

Had to pad that game time somehow, they were already deep into the PS2 era.

The game was grindy as fuck but I had fun.
Absolutely love the setting and story though.
Wish there was another Digimon game/anime similar to it. You'd think there'd be one during the mmo boom a few years back.

Attached: digimonworld3_a.jpg (1024x768, 262K)

Fuck off retard. Half the mons in Dawn and Dusk were absolutely useless at endgame unless they had certain traits/perks/whatever it was called. Mainly the immunity to all status effects and resistance to all elements. Having 5000 mons counts for shit when like 10 of them are actually usable.

Padding it out is what made the game worse.

>steep grind and endless grinding
Well now I feel silly.

You're not wrong, but this was in the era where game value = game length started becoming a thing.

>that pointless back and forth with the tricky guilmon and the 8lue card
Why was this necessary?

Attached: 1541951484997.jpg (480x360, 67K)

What flaws make it a flawed genre?

Dawn/Dusk is the best game

>loading screens
>obtuse side quests/progression
>backtracking out the ass
>slow combat animations
It was fun, though. I'd play it again. Main problem was the loading screens, because holy shit, does it have to reload EVERYTHING?

Yeah, I guess you're right on that point.

>You'd think there'd be one during the mmo boom a few years back.
I was for certain that we'd see something back when Pokemon GO was extremely popular.
Thought we'd see a "Digimon GO" and another game come out alongside it.

Remember wandering around the mirage desert endlessly looking for the one particular path that leads you to the tower base? Haha, good times.

DW2 suffers a lot from having to grind a lot to get new mons. You have to keep fusing mons together to get their levels higher, and this means fusing Champions for awhile, and leveling a Rookie from level 1 each time before the game finally gives you enough Ultimates that you just have to deal with Champions. This is on top of several dungeons requiring a certain amount of magnetic or drill missiles to advance, and if you don't have enough or got the level of missiles required, you generally need to go back. This is on top of some tedious fetch quests, such as having to get 3 particular mons at one point of the story, having to deal with Junk Parts flooding your inventory until you finish a particular mission, and a pretty slow mid-game. That being said, I have sat through and beaten it a few times, and I like DW2, but I feel the overall grind makes it not so fun to play on repeat playthroughs.

there is a digimon MMO but as with 99% of all MMOs it's a p2w money blackhole

Lack of engaging gameplay

Unironically good times, it's memorable as fuck and holds no regard for the player's feelings, you don't see that kind of lack of handholding nowadays.

fuck me, i think that was the very first time i was introduced to looping map mazes
by the time young me figured that out by randomly running through the map i was able to oneshot everything up to amaterasu server. needless to say i never went back into the desert again
then "fuck you, do it again for amaterasu's version of the mirage desert"

Attached: 1546235110609.jpg (750x742, 36K)

I remember walking into some cave area and a giant golden digimon slapped my shit.
Shut down the console and never played DW3 again.

It would have been good if there wasn't a random battle every couple of steps.

I was so mad when I actually found the pathway in those woods that lead to Pharohmon.
>What-- How the fuck was I supposed to find that?
I spent at LEAST 4 damn hours running around the entire world trying to find out where to go. FUCK

>That's a nice digivolution you have there. Be a terrible shame if something happened to it.

Attached: 1553006457871.png (250x250, 45K)

Also, they almost certainly would have just had you backtracking the world again for the second half, may as well recolor it.

is real soul.

The fuck is this?

For me, it's Kotemon

Attached: Kotemon_b.jpg (320x320, 55K)

one of her attacks de-digivolves you back into a rookie
another of her attacks drains your MP so you can't digivolve back
probably the game's biggest casual filter

too far in for most people to recognize, also you forgot the part where her regular attacks hit four times
try posting pharaohmon or boltmon next time. maybe zanbamon for non-english speakers and retards who don't realize you're not supposed to fight him.

Attached: 1555199052820.png (320x320, 137K)

>Zanbamon used Hunting knife
>the fucking overpowered Nunemons in the mansion where you fight him for the second time

>Oh hey this game might be fun to replay
>Remember the game forces you to use a bear/monkey/samurai
>You can replace it like 5 hours in but I don't remember how
>Deceptively tiny roster of digimon you can actually use

Attached: 1560344516322.jpg (850x693, 134K)

From what I remember those Numemons were the prime grinding spot

they're not overpowered, you're just underleveled because you're not supposed to go in there until you're headed for the bug maze to reach amaterasu
at the appropriate level those numemons make for a great xp farm

>Kumamom
>Kotemon
>Monmon
>Agumon
>Guilmon
>Patamon
>Renamon
>Veemon
>Everyone with large evolution tree and requirements to get those evos

It was fun but really fucking hard.

>when fish a Diver on for the first time
Motherfuckers made me lose almost 2 hours of progress

Attached: 1541352892976.png (720x715, 502K)

Digimon is/was a franchise with so much potential, and they fucked it so bad.
Tamers was fantastic, World 1 was great, World 3 had potential if it wasn't for the grinding.

That said, the most enjoyable way to play World 3 is on an emulator with a speedhack, banking every partner monster but one and steamrolling the game with your favorite.

Attached: 1396299112708.jpg (1500x850, 1.25M)

>I don't remember how
you had to find some scientist who required you to be past certain parts of the story progression and also having the combined levels of your mons being within a certain level range, and then find and beat their ultimate digivolution as a boss battle
i still fucking remember veemon's scientist requiring you to be done with the desert but also at a really low level range, and also appearing halfway across the world in the fucking pharaohmon ruins. how the fuck was anyone supposed to find that faggot while meeting the requirements?

>tfw 200+ hour autistic every DV on every Digimon save got corrupted

Attached: 1554053083579.jpg (583x611, 36K)

Weird levels.

They usually only go for the popular ones if they do anyways. Look up Armor Digi-Egg Digivolution Chart if you wanna see how many aren't used.

Attached: terriermon cargo pants.png (885x456, 13K)

what's the difference between versions?

because they're retarded
dawn and dusk had them and they were basically useless, or fusion digivolution fodder. shitty evolutionary dead ends with no mega forms.

Adventure > Tamers
But yes the series is fucked it never had good games if we are being honest and most anime seasons are crap.
Still hoping survive will be ok

>make what is supposed to be a cut open can lid some weird circular metal door

Tamers is arguably superior

crosscode

I strongly disagree but Im tired of listing my points so often and I dont really care right now, it was still good.

I'm starting to come to terms with Next 0rder not being THAT good.

If you played the US version, yes.

I thought it was trash so your opinion is still really positive.

When is Survive coming out again

This year
Thats all we know

Kotemon was my favorite starter by far. Tons of physical moves and in general did a lot of damage, on top of learning healing techs. Even if Renamon and Patamon are kinda mediocre party members, he made up for them. It's a shame his ultimate form in the game didn't really get much attention afterwards, aside from appearing in Dusk/Dawn.

Attached: Kyukimon.jpg (200x200, 14K)

Kotemon was kinda broken imo
he pretty much had no weakness and you had a good tech for any enemy
+ Blade Twister was ridiculously good

First time I played the game, I literally just solo stuff with Kotemon with Pata and Rena at both lv 1 and sweep the game easily. He's so fucking good it's not even funny.

Renamon

Attached: 1519946931529.jpg (600x514, 77K)

>Can't look at Veehmon or Guilmon the same way ever again

Attached: 1553675762788.png (1130x845, 631K)

It wasnt though
Furries are just genenerates
I admit all the bara shit porn has made me dislike digimon I used to like though

If I could make my dream Digimon game I wouldn't include any of the Mons past Tamers

Nothing will beat the first Digimon World game.

The only digimon game that was ever good is digital card battle
I know we all nostalgia about world 1 but its really not very good at all outside atmostphere

>or the retarded card minigame where the enemies don't even shuffle their decks, and late-game just spam fucking broken cards?
God, this still hurts. Every fucking match boils down to learning what cards they're going to play by heart and resetting the fight until you draw the one thing in your deck that can actually counter their bullshit card, AND a freeze bug to counter the freeze bug they ALWAYS have. How the fuck did they fuck up such a simple fucking thing?

Attached: 1540620783502.jpg (500x385, 63K)

They could find ways to make them useful with a bigger budget and a more creative approach to gameplay, they could be used as limited early game temporary powerups for tougher enemies, or for world traversal like in DW3 but expanded upon, in a Pokemon HM/Metroidvania item type of way, so you'd have optional areas blocked by ice accessible later when you get Flamedramon, you could travel faster on Raidramon, etc

The atmosphere is enough for me to call it good. If a game provides something unique, its already good in my book.

I dont really disagree
I like games that are horrible gameplay wise but have superb atmosphere
Sometimes you just want to be there and thats enough

What is this

My guess its a fan game that will never be completed

it's just art

Even DW3 had Agunimon and others from Frontier

My niggers, he is the best.
>level scale his atk to max at the first part of the game
>waste every enemy and boss with Blade Twister
Absolute perfection

How come nobody ever talks about the second game?

That one was my favorite.
