Having played a stupid amount of mmos, I feel like the FFXIV encounter design team is the absolute best

I'll give honesty. You'll either get slurpers or shitposters obscuring the truth. Honestly it's good for a themepark mmo, but it has some issues. First thing is if you don't plan on using a story skip then you are in for a loooong boring slog till you reach HW content. Second thing is early levels. Early levels are trash in this game. I'm talking about hitting 1,2,3 boring if you're lucky. Jobs will take some semblance of shape once you hit 50 (quite a few are a blast at high levels) but until then it's going to be mind numbing and you'll wonder why you started in the first place. The last major issue I have with FFXIV is that the expansions never shake shit up enough. You'll hit endgame, do dungeons for tomes, gear up, do ex primals, then maybe whatever the current raid is. Then you'll wait for whatever the 24 man is that's going to be released and then do that. That being said I like the game and the devs are consistent, but do not ever expect anything to shake up the boat when you find yourself wanting something different.

It's free to play up to level 35, so you don't lose anything but your time by trying it out.

The beginning is the least exciting part of the game though, both storywise and how basic the classes feel, but I think it'll gives you enough to see if there's any chance you'll like it or not.

the event stuff used to be tradable too, so you'd get people handing out the old new year's helmets and shit to new players. to be fair to the devs i think that change came directly from the higher ups at se, yoshi has said he doesn't really have all that much control over the mogstation stuff

Technically it becomes obsolete at level 74, but you can take i400 gear to level 80 as long as you upgrade your weapon at 78. If you're a tank though, you need the extra defense from the new gear, so you have to upgrade your armor at 75 or 76.

Dark Apocalypse is Automata, not Replicant. There's such a time gap between the two games that they're practically inconsequential to eachother. The Nier/Drakengard timeline is so fucked up it hardly matters, and you won't get the full experience without reading a bunch of novels and manga and watching stage plays and listening to CD dramas.

it'll probably even out timewise if you're a dps player due to queues but even the most wretched pug can probably do slightly better if you're a tank or healer

Yoshida went into detail about the AIs. He said they will take longer than a group of humans and that's by design. He doesn't want it to be optimal. It'll be about half an hour per trust dungeon.

Honestly I love playing games for their stories but there is a point where it just gets mind numbing when its more of the same. I've dealt with the boredom that was Ifrit Endgame till 1.23 release and dealt with the HW formula 2 times now. ARR was at least unique but definitely unpolished so I will give HW the benefit of being better in that regard. The game's story just hasn't been such a "Masterpiece" as people like to put it to justify playing the same old slog with higher numbers, the story peaked at Heavensward and will likely never get to that high again..

I will definitely change my opinion once the story is out. It has a positive in regards to story with the Trailers actually being based on the story unlike Stormblood's but the ending to the Expansion was ass compared to ARR's ending with us getting exiled. Even then as it stands I think the story is glorified for what it is since its only compared to MMO stories. It's mediocre at best with the only bit pushing above that being most of the Dragonsong War.

I get where you're coming from because I've been there so many times but it's actually true for this game because it takes a safe, progressive pace in its development that steadily makes the game better to play over time. I don't think anyone glorifies the story any more than it really is, it is generally agreed that the Dragonsong War has been the peak, and Stormblood was while good, it had issues and not quite HW levels.
The worldbuilding and storyline is up to par with other JRPGs too, not only with other MMOs, that's why it's praised.

Stormblood was not good user. It had way too many flaws and felt rushed. It felt like they couldn't decide if they wanted to make it an actual Ala Mhigo expansion or a "Not-Asia" expansion for most of its run. At least the Steppes were nice I guess?

I think its safe to say that at this point most people agree that ARR as a whole is a slog with only the near end being somewhat enjoyable as it leads into the Heavensward story. Once in Heavensward you have a valid argument which instantly loses all merit once the Stormblood story kicks up. As a whole ARR needs a lot of culling.

Yes it had issues with being overly ambitions by biting more off than they can chew, but it still had its moments, and I wouldn't say it was bad just because of it. It was still enjoyable, but clearly not as good as HW.
The new areas and music were gorgeous, and I especially enjoyed the steppes.

The ideal pacing should have been first half of 4.0 being showing off Zenos and his grip on Ala Mhigo and the other half the basis of us setting Hein up to retake Doma. 4.1 to 4.3 could have followed the Doman Liberation arc and fit the Tsuyu arc perfectly with 4.4 and 4.5 being the build up of troops and eventual Liberation of Ala Mhigo. 4.5 would have still made sense even with that in mind as a sudden and swift retaliation by the Garlean Empire would not be out of the question.

ALC has the best questline out of the DoHs, and FSH makes the least money out of the three DoLs, but is the most netflix friendly.
