Serial killers don't tend to get away with their crimes because they are geniuses that know all about police procedures or something. They tend to get away with their crimes because the way police catch murderers is to investigate things like associates and motive and opportunity so when a random person kills another random person for no real reason it's kind of hard to figure out who the fuck did it.
