War is a horrible thing that's almost always very gray; giving a pure black evil for everyone to unite against is trite and overdone, ESPECIALLY in FE.
I agree there's another force at play in 3H, but they should just be trying to capitalize on the situation, not its root cause. They should get in everyone's way every now and then to keep the war going, and your House should end up exterminating them as you do the other 2 Houses.

Three Houses' MC is the first actual "silent" protagonist in the series. All the other Lords are actual characters. Even the make-your-OC's of recent games still have a character of their own.
We still don't know how expressive the dialogue options are for Byleth though. They could end up showing their personality through their dialogue choices or they could be generic answers. They also speak during battle but again they could display their personality in their lines or just be another cookie cutter teacher/mentor.
