King Chicken doesn't seem to be a thing in any past Crash game. There's the normal chickens in 3 and some of the other games but that's it. Could just be a name they came up with to make a random chicken in to a racer because they had the assets for it. Might also coincide with that KFC tournament they're having.

Yes. Every month starting in July there will be a Grand Prix that allows you to unlock all the stuff listed (characters, skins, karts, stickers, etc.) for free by completing challenges while the prix is ongoing. When it ends everyone gets to keep the new track by default plus whatever they unlocked. Anything you don't manage to get in time will later be available in the in-game store for the in-game currency.

An user in a different thread pointed out that "Rex" in Latin means king. Thus Baby T "Rex" could be this King Chicken. One problem though is that Baby T is supposed to appear with Baby Crash and Coco, and their data isn't in the pastebin link, so it could be something else entirely.

All tracks are consistent now between the two games. Tracks like Thunderstruck were completely reimagined for the better. Every track besides Hyper Spaceway at least.

Crash Team Racing: How to unlock Tawna Bandicoot and the trophy girls
Players won't be able to unlock Crash Bandicoot's original damsel-in-distress and the trophy girls from day one, but they will be able to starting July 3.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled officially launches June 21, and Beenox has already announced three seasons of additional and free DLC.

The remake will be supported post-launch with seasonal Grand Prix content, and it's the first package where players will be able to unlock Tawna Bandicoot and the trophy girls.

Beenox's first Grand Prix season is called the Nitro Tour, and it'll include Tawna, the trophy girls (now referred to as the Nitro Squad), and a unique race track which reimagines the Ancient Egypt and Arabian Town levels from Crash Bandicoot: Warped.

To unlock Tawna Bandicoot, players will need to complete a plethora of the Grand Prix's challenges to attain enough Nitro Points.

So long as you keep playing the game and conquering easy to hard challenges that vary from top speed to power slide, you will earn every reward that's available.

As for the trophy girls Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz, you will unlock all four of them by spending Wumpa Coins.

Wumpa Coins are earned by participating in Grand Prix challenges, and they can be redeemed at the Pit Stop store that will house characters, kart sets, wheels, paint jobs, stickers, skins, and more.

Along with Tawna Bandicoot and the trophy girls, the Nitro Tour will also add unique kart parts, international-themed cosmetics, and the return of Le Chaux.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled launches June 21 for PS4 and Xbox One, and the Nitro Tour Grand Prix expansion will be available to download for free on July 3.

Actually it doesn't guarantee a long life because the casual players leave the game once patches influenced by pros trickle down to the base game (which of course, is not the same game casuals are even playing). The perceived 'extended life' is from devs getting sponsored content by esports and being able to push more adverts for the game in attempt to stay relevant. Completely artificial.

CTR doesn't because it has something called item counterplay options. You can block every item in the game or send back your own when hit, and the only change needed would be to remove Tropy clocks and triple missiles/bombs because they disrupt the flow of the match.

There's separate rewards and challenges set up to unlock stuff. Not everything is bought with wumpas. I'm pretty sure you can unlock all normal CTR characters through adventure mode, as well as a good deal of the skins/karts/wheels.
If you hover over locked stuff, sometimes it'll have a challenge or achievement in order to unlock it. Other than that, I'm sure there's extra challenges and just other accomplishment checks that grant some bonus shekels.

Position doesn't seem to matter. You can also win 300 coins from offline races but the amount drops down at some point, happens for online races too. People said you only get lots of coins during the first hour of play of each day, while another theory is that you get loads as long as you change your character after a few races.

You can get adapters to use the PS4 controller w/ switch, mine at least seems to have just a hair of input lag which totally kills it for me when I'm playing CTR.
