I don't care what anyone says DK64 is a fantastic game and the castle boss was a big fuck you for 8 year old me's reaction times.

Gobi and Freezeezy ramp things up a little bit but the finale segment that is Rusty Bucket Bay -> Click Clock Woods -> Furnace Fun -> Final Battle is a pure fucking kino difficulty spike. You respect the mechanics or the game will murder you dead.

I prefer Tooie but the finale of Kazooie is the series peak. It's just that everything before Mad Monster Mansion is a total snoozefest.

the whole creepy castle level felt like a fucking herculean ordeal at the time. had to come back when I was in high school to beat the game for real

honestly im impressed with how nice the difficulty curb is. I was just kinda blasting through it til gobi's. got my first death in freezy breeze after missing a jump on the snowman. Honestly i'll take legit difficulty over bubblegloop swamp. mr vile can eat shit

When I went back to replay DK64 it was nowhere near as good as I remembered it. Wonder if just didn't age well or what.

Bubblegloop drives me fucking nuts, I really don't like it at all.

Especially because YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT FUCKING MAZE EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO BE A CROCODILE WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING

at least you use that one in a minigame
>freezeezy
>walrus transformations
>slow as fuck and no special moves
>get ONE jiggy just by TALKING to the fatass walrus
>can't even get the jinjo in the cave it unlocks unless you're banjo again
i was fucking mad

Attached: 1528652147325.jpg (311x242, 25K)

it had 10/10 aesthetics with 4/10 game design. just minigames and using different kongs to unlock doors with their pictures on em.

That's very true, but at least the rest of Freezeezy is engaging. The rest of bubblegloop swamp is pretty boring
>LITERALLY just beak buster Tanktups flippers to warm him up(????) 4 times
>Receive jiggy
>Walk inside to do the actual minigame to receive another
Early Kazooie has way too many instances of one puzzle dispensing multiple jiggies.

I was really enjoying the game until I met this motherfucker

DK64 is quite seriously the ultimate collecting platformer lol. People just can't handle it but if you're into that sort of thing, its pretty great. The multiplayer was fun at the time and isn't so great anymore, but the core game is still pretty good. It's gotten a really bad reputation for having to switch between Kongs, but people forget that you can quite seriously teleport to the switch barrel. It's really not bad.

Plus, it introduced me to the origina Jetpac. I can't be mad at it.

The problem is Kazooie will have one puzzle giving multiple jiggies, like with two different races with boggles and the one you posted, then tooie will have separate jiggies but also feature things you have to activate/use in other worlds, like with the aliens' constant problems you need to solve and the pigs' pool situation.
It's one way or the other.

>49/50 coins
>demonic bug cackling
fuck this guy

A few of the jiggies in Tooie are egregious but overall I find them a lot more engaging than Kazooie's

The upside of a bunch of brutally difficult jiggies is that half the game isn't just handing them to you like with Kazooie

>what 64 games still hold up for you fags?

I hooked my 64 up maybe a week ago and I'm addicted to playing Mischief Makers. I don't know how I got all those yellow crystals, but this shit is sadistic but satisfying.

Attached: Mischief_Makers.jpg (376x265, 28K)

I played this game for the first time today and the second race in freezeezy kicked my ass

Reminder that Grunty's Revenge legitimately has the best implementation of the transformation mechanic.
>Every single transformation can be used in every single world
It's a great implementation, although admittedly only possible because of the smaller scale of the game

>what 64 games still hold up for you fags?
I think most people will disagree, But I still fucking love Rayman 2.

>Second Dragonfly battle with Chunky
>Castle Battle
>"YEAH! FAUCK YOUU!"

>what 64 games still hold up for you fags?
Surprised nobody has said mario 64 yet, the movement is still among the best 3d mario has had

My first callous. Shake shake baby.

I think Golden Eye 007 doesnt hold at all.
I tried to play it like a month ago and you cant even see from where you are getting shoot

This guy can burn in hell

I loved the first half of the game, then got burned out and quit. I wanna play that again.

>Especially because YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT FUCKING MAZE EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO BE A CROCODILE WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING

There is a springboard next to the wall that unlocks after the first time you complete it.

There isn't nigga. I just replayed the game

BK is a really easy game, the only difficult part I haven’t experienced was getting all the notes in one life since I played it on the 360, but even there I can’t think of many places where I couldn’t do that until tooie (in particular the boar level where you stop the turbines seems like a bitch). I also noticed that sm64 is the easiest 3d mario game(at least in terms of getting 100%) which is probably for the best since the camera and turning were abysmal. I think they made the wise decision of making the games easier since both the developers and players were just getting used to 3D.

Most switch barrels are also placed pretty liberally. Like at locations that require constant Kong switching. Honestly, the entire level design was pretty solid overall, outside of Crystal Caves, fuck that level. as well as the over reliance on minigames.

God I hate Gobi's Valley
Only level in the entire series I don't enjoy, and this is a series with three fucking water levels.

People that claim they love Goldeneye are fucking liars and nostalgia baiting. Perfect Dark though is, dare I say, perfect.

i appreciate it more after oddyssey for some reason. maybe im just a boomer but 64 just really let you throw your weight around if we're just talking about how the movement feels

There is exactly one part of Banjo-Kazooie that I fucking dread whenever I play it, and it's the Mr. Vile minigame. Not even the Rusty Bucket engine room is as annoying.

i was surprised by how much I liked clanker's cavern. it just had some novel ideas for playing with the level setting

Maybe I didn't give DK64 a fair chance a few years ago, might try to pick it up again when the Dong alings.

IMO the least favorite level is Click Clock
>dude climb the tree four (or more) times lmao
people give RBB shit but aside from the room with the rotating platforms it's not that bad

The only thing I dislike about RBB is the fucking portholes that are interactable but look fucking identical to normal ones

>sm64 is the easiest 3d mario game(at least in terms of getting 100%)
I'd say Galaxy

>Banjo Kazooie
>Banjo Tooie
>Majora's Mask (the 3DS remake botched too much for me)
>Glover
>Paper Mario (second favorite Mario RPG)
>Bomberman Hero
>Super Mario 64

Gobi's Valley is usually where I die the first time too because of King Sandybutt's maze. If not there then Rusty Bucket Bay in the room with the machines.

Chiming in to autistically vent about how in Tooie beating Terry basically gives you two jiggies because of the one under the arena. I'm a huge shill for Tooie but that one always felt fucking lazy.

I was about to refute you, but I remembered I just have played Galaxy 2 and not the first one

DK64 would've been awesome if you could use any Kong to pop the baloons, play the musics, kill the grunts and things like this.

So you'd use any of them do play the game...

depends on whether you consider Luigi mode and the bonus 121st star as 100% or 201%

nah I'd agree with that too, mario feels like he has a lot more weight to him in 64. Odyssey's movement is still really fun but mario feels really light if that makes any sense.

you forgot about the race with boggy

Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Mischief Makers
Glover
F-Zero X
DOOM 64
Mario Kart 64
Mario Golf

and Obligatory(but true):
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Super Mario 64

You can also count Resident Evil 2 and Toy Story 2, even if there are better ports.

The Banjo games will have me glued to the screen til im done, the Zelda Games and Mario hold my attention enough to finish up whatever playthrough i start over however long it takes.

While the backtracking is bothersome, I dont like this idea of just changing everywhere.
in the game there are a few zones where you can reach with differents Kong, some ways ar harder because different moveset in the characters, but if you can change your character inside the zone then you are removing an entire part of the challenge of getting tthere with other kongs.

I generally do dislike DK64 but the castle stage is actually pretty decently made. Most of the collectables are literally just on the way of exploring the level and there's not a lot going to weird places to get one banana for a Kong.

I get the impression it was probably one of the first levels made.

Shame about the double Beaver Bother though.

The transformations in BK are largely pretty fucking pointless each getting at most like two Jiggies, or in the case of the pumpkin being necessary to get to Rusty Bucket Bay.

>double Beaver Bother though.
I've had my memory of this repressed for so long, how the fuck am I still mad about it.

That's cool, but I don't like the idea either. Feels like cheating.

Any Kong can get any banana?

If I were going to play this game again, I'd going through that route though.

You can trip him at the start of the first race by doing Tiny's slide kick to get a head start.

The correct mod would be one that would let you pop the balloons, get the coins, the bananas... all collectibles in general with any Kong.

But it's better than nothing.

Megaman 64

tried this game out after seeing all the smash hype. I can see why people are glad to see this IP again, music is god tier, characters and level design are super memorable, humour is on point. the one thing that gets to me though is that the camera is fucking dogshit. it's frustrating as hell to not be able to turn the camera at all just because I'm in a corner or the room is too narrow. sometimes the camera just changes angles 180 degrees without warning and I inadvertently walk off platforms because of it. shame really, if it weren't for that this game could possibly rival the likes of the best 3d mario games

Attached: 1532670070067.jpg (225x225, 16K)

That's early 3D gaming for you

Although I'll say the ambitious geometry of the Banjo series probably causes the camera to get caught more often than with Mario 64 or Spyro
