soulless

You managed to solve the captcha to make this thread.

It's good but almost every Mario game is. Good is not enough for this IP. Odyssey is a great step in the right direction of removing Miyamoto's sterile, homogenized aesthetic from Mario, but it's still not close to having the soul of Mario 64 or even Mario Galaxy. It's missing those extra few details, and it's missing cohesion/focus. Odyssey would have benefited from far fewer moons for starters

It wasn't linear like the Galaxy games and 3D World
Sandbox Mario sucks dick

Nothing really, the whole game was kino as fuck and my first playthrough will forever be etched into my brain for just how creative you could make the act of just fuckin' around.

Baby’s first Mario game.

Not much, its one of the most fun games of the entire generation.

Two rights make a wrong

Too much moons.

Jump canceling fuckery made levels/runs boring, you get too much verticality(?) with it

Odyssey 2 will be a million times better just like how BOTW will be a million times better than BOTW

*BOTW 2
godamnit

There are only three memorable moments in the entire game.
The festival in New Donk City.
Fighting a fucking Dragon.
Controlling Bowser.

Everything else is really forgettable "kollect mun" x 100

>Purple coin to world size ratio is fucked which causes the final few purple coins to be a massive pain in the ass to find and also causes them to not fill out the world properly
>Trash moons ruin the pacing of the game because you stumble over enough of them to move on before you can get to all of the engaging moons. They should have just not gone for the meme 999 total and cut all the garbage moons and added the good moons from the return visits to the main game.
>Worlds are so big and landmark-less that they just give you a map which defeats the purpose of exploration based level design entirely
>Cappy throws take like 20 minutes to master and are a one size fits all solution to easily obtain damn near every moon in the game, homogenizing the gameplay
>Interconnected worlds are substanceless, just enter portrait, receive moon
Tooie did it better

that stupid fucking hat

looking at it pisses me off

This, also dynamic music was disappointing at times since you end up hearing silence most of the time despite the soundtrack actually being really good.

collectible bloat and lack of any real challenge before the post-game
hopefully we get an Odyssey 2 that reduces the moon count while making more difficult platforming sections
