I've played DS3 first because I fell for the hype train and I'm going through Dark Souls right now and it is honestly way more effective at filling you with that feeling of hopelessness and despair. Mostly because you can't travel between bonfires and the world is completely open

Better bosses I agree with until they started cramming even more bloodborne into the game with Gael and Lady Ma... Sister Friede. Dark Souls 2, for all its sins, at least could stand on its fucking own and tried to set itself apart. Dark Souls 3 can't even be called a "greatest hits" entry because it walked back nearly every improvement Dark Souls 2 made to the formula for seemingly no reason, or took the idea and made it shittier and more limited, again, for no reason. Combine that with the fact that the game clumsily tried to slap bloodborne and souls together in terms of combat flow and you end up with this schizophrenic mess where the strategy is either turtling to an insane degree or just stunlocking enemies and dodging their inevitable counterattack.

That was kind of the point moving from Demon's into Dark, they took away the centralized hub and made you get used to walking to certain areas, not even the Lordvessel gives you full bonfire warping when you get it.
