I live in a small town in England and we have a somewhat active Pokemon Go community. I imagine that every town in the USA would have a handful of active players as well. And even if you can't find anyone to play the game with, just living/working in an area with a few Pokestops is enough to experience most of the game. The only thing you miss out on is legendary Pokemon from Raid battles (which seem to be coming to non-raid players via weekly research rewards anyway).
