Game development cycle = 5 years

>game development cycle = 5 years
>game console lifespan = 6 years
So now that the "rerelease gen" is coming to an end, we all agree this bullshit needs to stop?

It hasn't come to an end. Gen 9 will also be full of "just in case you missed it" remasters.

>fallout 4
>gen 8

What's gen 1 supposed to be then?

Pong. Not even joking, google it. Even the Magnavox Odyssey was just a glorified Pong machine.

>It hasn't come to an end
Only TLoU2 and GoW5 are still coming, the rest is confirmed for gen 9, or so far out that it's confirmed for all intents and purposes. Fallout 5 might be gen 10.

Huh?
What are the other gens then?
What's the rule that defines them?
I'm confused.

the nes was 3rd gen

>Microsoft already announcing stuff for Scarlett like Halo Infinite
>Sony skipping E3 and will probably announce the new console and release titles next year
>new GTA still years away
>Starfield and TES VI confirmed for gen 9
>only other notable gen 8 release left is Cyberpunk

It's over bros

GTA hasn't gotten any new games because of the absurd popularity and money from V still rolling in. They have no pressure to pump anything out as fast anymore

I meant more that the rerelease cycle isn't over. I expect Gen 9 to be just a bad as Gen 8 for that filler.

6th gen had 5 GTA games, You forgot about LCS & VCS. Gen 7 only has 3, IV, CTW, V

Oh that, yeah, I don't expect that ever to end with how successful rereleases were this gen. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Skyrim got a gen 9 rerelease.

It won't stop. This gen was ok, but in a billion dollar industry, even shit gens will have a few good games. Add in the fact that people will actually defend getting LESS for their money, and console gens are fucked. They need to last at least 15 years now to get anywhere close to pre-Gen 8 output. Ridiculous.

They were originally released as PSP titles, so they would be 7th gen.

those were PSP games

Second Generation was when they started having cartridges and stuff and were able to actually program onto them. And it was such a huge clusterfuck that you should be glad we only have three mainstream consoles to choose from today.
Then Nintendo stepped in and started the third generation. And from there, each company has pretty much released their new consoles around the same time hence the start of each new generation.

Every Scarlet game will be playable on Xbox One. MS said for the first two years, it will have no exclusives.
Well done, you've explained away one franchise out of dozens of practically dead ones.

This is why AAA needs to die
What happened to making the best game you could in two years and releasing it, then making a sequel etc

I still don't understand how does the gens are defined.
>In the history of video games, the first-generation era refers to the computer game and video games, video game consoles, and video game handhelds available from 1972 to 1983
But fucking why?! Is that related to hardware or something?

delet this now

>Fallout 4
>Uncharted 4
>God of War (4)
>Gears of War 4
>Halo 5
kek

Feels like they are in a hybrid gen, The PSP is essentially a weak PS2, And it never got a physical PS3 release

They are still PSP games no matter what mental gymnastics you want to do.

Not to mention the PSP came out in 2004, 7th gen started in 2006

where is doom 2016, witcher 3, resident evil 7

Ok brain let. I'll break it down for you
Gen 1- shit but still neat to people in the 70s
>Magnavox Odyssey
>Pong machines
Gen 2- games are actually programmed onto cartridges, do more than just slide bars on the screen. 8 bit processors.
>Atari 2600
>Colecovision
>Odyssee 2
>Intellivision
Gen 3- the post video game crash resurrection. More novel graphics and better games. Still 8 bit.
>Nintendo Entertainment System
>Sega Master System
>Atari 5200
Gen 4- The 16 (and some 32) bit era, we 90s now boy. Game size and graphical fidelity increased. Less limited soundcards.
>Super Nintendo
>Sega Genesis
>Atari Jaguar
Gen 5- Beginning of the 3d era. Dedicated graphic processors and 64 bit processors allow for even better graphical fidelity. Games become more involved than before. First person shooters start coming to consoles.
>Nintendo 64
>Playstation
>Sega Saturn
>Atari fucking dies
Gen 6- Beginning of the 2000s. Start of the "modern" era of gaming. FPS games begin to become the norm, platformers begin falling out of style. Online play develops. Better graphics. Consoles now use DVDs to store data
>Xbox
>Playstation 2
>Gamecube

I'm sure you can fill in the blanks for the next 2 gens, seeing as how you were actually around for those ones, zoomer.

Fair enough, They are still 3D era GTA's so it means fuck all to me. 3D > HD
