What games do this?

To me good level design is such that you never HAVE to give yourself a disadvantage to complete it. Maybe make it hard and people who are in a hurry or don't give a shit will just take the damage and move on but smart players and those willing to think outside the box are rewarded for it.

final fantasy, and skyrim come to mind.

What this retard is trying to say is that challenges that are easy and tedious should not exist, they should be difficult but fun.

Doom

Sacred too

Persona Q makes you walk over damage tiles for map completion even if you've already drawn the tiles yourself. Granted you can just buy a consumable to get around it but still a weird choice

Souls trilogy

Probably etrian games I know persona q does it

Doom 2016 is the only recent game I can think of that rewards you for filling the map.
Why would you bother when you look into the corner and see there is nothing there except lava that goes straight to the wall? calm your OCD.

Souls is the only one I can think of where you are actually required to trudge through poison swamp to explore the area, but that is the whole gimmick of those areas.

So if "it's the whole gimmick of the area" then it's fine, it doesn't count?

Blocking out the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith, I see? Can't blame ya.

Retarded. In a good game you can beat it without taking damage.

>DRPG
>floor has a million pit traps that take you to the floor below and need you to backtrack a whole lot with random encounters, sometimes even need to go back several floors to go back to where you were
>know exactly where the traps are, you see them
>already found the right path
>go walk on every single pit trap anyway for map completion

Sneed

Atlus dungeon crawlers

it's not perfect, i like it

Fallout 3, unless you choose the full map unlock perk.
It's like the devs either didn't perform qa testing or just said "fuck it," they'll use the perk or miss out.

which part?

When they actually put items in the hazard area or there is no way to get to the boss without going through them, then yeah it isn't pointless. OP is talking about going into the hazard area when the only benefit is filling in the blurred edges on the minimap.

to be honest I do hate that area. I didn't even think about it when I posted, but it's the same game anyways so it doesn't really matter.

etrian lets you draw your own map so there's no reason to step on tiles for map completion
The real question is whether you should paint under doors and chests

SMT Strange Journey
Persona Q/Q2

Only subhumans don't paint under doors, chests, stairs and shortcuts.

I sacrifice the rest of my life points to this motherfucker.
