Fuck yeah it would, imagine an open city where you drive around arresting perps and fighting crime. From small infractions to murder and assault. Story missions could be solving cases and shit, or maybe story arcs from the comics like Necropolis and PJ Maybe.

I imagine it could work like Samus's arm cannon in metroid prime. Same weapon stays out, but some animation plays reconfiguring the weapon to the mode you want. Dredd saying the name of the weapon mode he wants could work just bundled in as part of the ammo-switching animation, but that could be tedious if he says the name every single time it switches. Maybe he only says it sometimes.

Have you not seen the last few years' progs? 2000 AD was never subtle with its politics but the Sons of Booth stuff in Dredd is 100% ORANJ MAN BAD.

If it would be a third person shooter, Dredd could mumble it to his lawgiver instead of announcing it to the player at full volume. Though I really don't want third person shooters in current year because of the over-the-shoulder meme that has infected them all.
