Should I play on normal or hard?

Hard, it's piss easy.

Always carry one node with you

Hard. Most of the tension in horror games comes from resource management, and while Hard still throws ammo at you it's still much less than Normal.

make sure you Google v-sync and mouse acceleration fixes if you're on PC. The port is near unplayable without tweaking it.

Plasma Cutter is best weapon.

This. Even on impossible you'll have more supplies than you'd ever wish to use

Objectively wrong. The Ripper is the best gun in the game and the most fun to use.

Protip: stasis is easy mode

Hard. On normal you'll be swimming in supplies.

Hard is pretty easy if you utilize your powers right

Turn music off so you don't have all the encounters ruined by being tipped off anytime monsters are about to hit you up.

the music does a lot to set the mood, without it you're just shooting monsters in hallways

That was one of the very few problems I had with this game, the monsters seem to emit spooky string music, I almost always knew when one was creeping up behind me because of it. Fucking great game regardless.

Also got a question for anyone who knows, when I played this the first time, I got that glitch that switches you from hard to medium, but I reverted to an older save that still said it was set to hard mode and it didn't switch back to medium through the rest of the game. Almost every enemy dropped something though, is that normal on hard, or was my save lying to me?

Last time I played I found I was on medium after I was sure I set it to Hard, so if that's a thing that would explain it.

IIRC enemies always drop something regardless of difficulty, they just smaller amounts on higher difficulties

cutter only is objectively easier than using other guns, you spend all your nodes on one gun and rig upgrades and fights are a joke

now if you were a real man instead of a scrawny anime girl you'd grab that fucking contact beam and absolutely remove anything that dares block your path

A heads up OP if you're still there, apparently you can avoid this game fucking with your difficulty if you load your games from the Load option on the main menu instead of Continue, but I can't really confirm the validity of that claim, its just something I read.

The game is way scarier with the music turn off for me, the sound effects alone makes the game feel more "real".
And Dead Space SFX is top notch.
