I can't afford several hours of practice with one type of weapon just so I can hunt the difficult monsters.

The series may be more suited for people like you who can waste their time this way.

Max difficulty hunts take like 9 minutes solo if you're good. This grind complaint shit is weak. You spend more time jerking off than it takes to farm a whole set.

yeah but jerking off feels good the whole time until the end when you get post nut syndrome, but monster hunter is like the reverse where most of it is the post nut syndrome until the end of the hunt and all the dopamine rushes in

Longsword, Bow, Dual Blades, Hammer, and IG are really enjoyable without really needing many armor skills imo

Greatsword and Gunlance are fun too but need a few more decorations and skills to really feel good to play

One issue is that I don't think I'll ever play a monster hunter game like I did 4u... not sure if it wore off or that one was just better.

I just couldn't get into the handheld MH games after Freedom Unite.

I think 4U ended up being my least played MH and it's a shame because I only ever hear good things about it.

I usually blame it on the DS being a lot less comfortable for me than the PSP for long sessions, but I'm not sure if that's really why.

The fun doesn't really peak or reach great heights but it is consistently a good and fun game

I mean the gameplay is more fun then Souls games for sure but if you dont like to grind then it can get kinda old fast. But if you're willing to not pigeon hole yourself to just one weapon then the game can offer plenty of variety .

the people who like the game fight the same monster hundreds of times and they abandon quest 90% of the time, so they don't even get any materials or money. 'grinding' for equipment is one of the tiniest, almost irrelevant aspect of monster hunter

It's "fun" once you experiment with the weapons and see when each clicks for you. For me learning monster patterns and optimizing time always kept me on my toes. However, finally learning the Hammer and hitting my first couple of golf swing KO's I really got into it and just delved further into each weapon type to see what works and what doesn't for various monsters. Though I will owe Monster Hunter 4U for the "craziest" hunting experiences in multiplayer where you will see all sorts of shit as you progress and learn the game.

Depends. If your like the idea of fighting monsters with sometimes questionable hitboxes over and over again so you can get new gear to kill those monsters slightly faster then sure.

Started playing World it with two friends recently, the best thing about this game is the grieving you can do to eachother

End game hunts are just slogs if you're playing solo (which is the only balanced way to play MH). Hyper monsters in GU, for example, just have retarded health inflation and the average player would have to spend 40+ minutes on the likes of Hyper Jho

World is good if you want a slightly more casual experience, otherwise get MHGU on Switch. It has a ton more content but its missing a lot of QoL stuff. That said, G rank is coming to MHW in Iceborne (later this year, early next year for PC).

The main feature of casual games, specially mobile shit, is that they try really hard to treat the player as some sort of celebrity, pamper the player so he keeps playing and maybe buy more DLC or loot boxes.
A hardcore game doesn't treat the player like royalty yet it respects the player's intelligence more than casual games. In MH you make your character and start your monster hunting career from scratch, it can take hours before you even start hunting a real monster, you will spend the first few hours gathering meat from walking meat sacks that don't fight back, killing shitty tiny velociraptor type faggots, fishing, gathering a set number of resources, etc. You're handed a shitty weapon and told to do basic grunt work (as a tutorial) before you upgrade to an actual monster (the first few real monsters you can hunt are NOT even hard to fight with starting gear if you're not completely braindead).

Oh don't expect your armor to protect you much. It certainly helps but not getting hit is always the goal.

depends on if you like that kinda game. It's grindy, in all itterations, but like- if you can enjoy the gameplay enough it doesnt really "feel" like a grind, same as any other game. it's a competent hack 'n slash and worth trying at least once, but the amount of time required to get through it can be a bit of a turn off if you just want a more simple ride forward through your games

The MH speedrunning scene in general is AIDS for the game. Making shitters go astray (who have neither the skill nor gear) by tricking them into thinking they've stumbled accross a magical "meta". Trying to copy some solo-play speedrun youtube autist. One who managed to make something look effective.... after 10 million failed runs, finally getting one decent RNG run recorded onto Youtube.

The shitter then proceeds to try and emulate speedrun style in online teamplay, and spirit slashes / lance pokes / launches / trips teammates into oblivion because what works in solo rarely translates well into multiplayer. Oh well, at least a substantial amount of the scrubs get pleb-filtered before endgame.
