Literally MADE for BBC
Install mods don’t play the game
Do not skip out on leveling up your melee skills. You can talk your way through a lot of the game, but the ending is 100% combat, and you will die a lot if you aren't probably leveled. Every two or three skills, level up melee.
Or just guns, since they're better than melee in the second half.
DON'T OPEN IT
Unofficial patch or nah
I felt it was the opposite.
OPEN IT
don't open it
stop this meme
google free skills guide
Nope, guns are useless until you get to Hollywood at which point they are roughly neck and neck with melee and by endgame guns are vastly superior to melee. It's because the guns you have available in the first two hubs are complete garbage no matter how high your stats are.
imagine what the kids would look like...
what the fuck is the problem with Tzimisce cunts
OP here,
I technically already started the game.
Picked Tremere.
Gonna focus on Guns for combat, fuck hitting people like a pleb.
Outside of getting morphine for that dude, I've done nothing.
That's not Venus
You do have the Unofficial patch, right? GOG already has it installed.
Nigga if you are tremere just use melee and magic, maybe guns when magic is on cooldown
why would you use guns when you have blood magic you dolt
It's the Gog version, so yes.
>picks the mage
>focus on guns
shit nigga wtf are you doing, if you want focus on something for combat you have blood magic
Because guns are cool.
White kid alert
I was gonna work on both both guns and magic.
You could go either way. Don't let fags tell you otherwise.
If you do use the Unofficial Patch, absolutely do NOT use the Plus Patch on your first playthrough. It adds some horrendous fanfiction shit.
should add also
"has a father" and "stays with the wife and kids"
Make sure in your settings within GOG Galaxy you turn off auto-update because if the game updates your save will not work and you will have to start from the beginning.
Those emails between Venus and Fat Larry are fanfiction added by the Unofficial Patch.
>listens to black music that's old to black ppl
fuck off it's not my fault Redman is great
the unofficial patch makes it so you can change the resolution to a readable level and fixes npc eyes to not shine like mirrors.
Really? Fuck me I've been thinking them cannon for years now
there's literally nothing wrong with this. New black music is fucking garbage, anything made by niggers after the 90's is irredeemable.
I just got out of playing this in VR
Wish I could record a vid showing how comfy it is but it's impossible
Yeah that's why some people get pissed at Wesp for inserting his own shit instead of actually just sticking with restoring unused content.
Thinking of playing it in VR is what actually got me excited about VR in the first place. I really hope I get a chance to try that soon.
I'm not sure it's a good enough reason on its own but it's a nice perk at least
If only some turboautist would make a proper VR mod for it
As everyone said, make sure that you're competent at combat, because you'll need it. And no, stealth won't cut it.
Also find the skip for Hollywood Sewers, you won't regret it. Worst part of the game along with fucking Hallowbrook.
>Also find the skip for Hollywood Sewers
Beginners shouldn't be using the plus patch. I didn't even mind the sewers my first time, although I was playing a gun user which probably made it easier.
If I should not go tremere with guns, should I restart and go with a different clan?
Going off memory, I should be able to get back to where I am now in like 20 minutes.
just do whatever you like, as long as you end up actually capable of fighting you'll be fine
OP, IGNORE ALL OTHER POSTS IN THIS THREAD! THIS IS THE ONLY ADVICE YOU NEED:
1. Install the Unofficial Patch. This is required to make the game run correctly. The GOG version comes with this preinstalled.
2. Pick one of the three combat types (Unarmed, Melee, or Firearms) and stick with it. XP is at a premium, and trying to level up more than one combat stat will cost you points that you could have used on other skills. You need to have whichever combat type you choose to specialize it as high as possible by the end of the game.
3. Ignore people who tell you not to use Malkavian or Nosferatu on your first playthrough. Those people have literal autism and/or OCD. Pick whichever clan you want.
IT'S LITERALLY REQUIRED, YOU FUCKING RETARD.
Unofficial patch is mandatory, but whether you want standard or plus is a matter of taste. I'd say save plus for a second playthrough.
Tremere with guns is fine. You can go through the game entirely just using Thaumaturgy but I don't think that's really intended and you're going to struggle.
Surely they will fix it in the sequel
>2. Pick one of the three combat types (Unarmed, Melee, or Firearms) and stick with it. XP is at a premium, and trying to level up more than one combat stat will cost you points that you could have used on other skills. That's not exactly true. You only need like 5 or 6 points in Melee and Firearms to use them efficiently. You can't use the highest tier weapons easily at that level but it's more than enough to have options during combat and fight well. It would actually be better to get a mix because some enemies are just a pain in the ass to fight with melee, like the 3-headed sewer monsters, while some enemies are easier fought with melee like the Geodudes.
>3. Ignore people who tell you not to use Malkavian or Nosferatu on your first playthrough. Those people have literal autism and/or OCD. Pick whichever clan you want.
Nice. I just read all the clan descriptions my first time playing and ended up choosing Malk, it was a lot of fun. Would've sucked if I had actually listened to "don't play Malk first!!!" posters.
The Plus Patch should just be restoration + the ability to skip the sewers. And maybe shortcuts for the Endgame. Anything else is unnecessary.
>2. Pick one of the three combat types (Unarmed, Melee, or Firearms) and stick with it. This is wrong. EXP is pretty easy to earn and if you do a good amount of the sidequests, you'll finish the game with enough points to get good at both guns or melee/unarmed. Also melee rules early game, but sucks late game.
>shown multiple times during the fucking tutorial that you HAVE TO FIGHT
>"I can just talk my way through every obstacle!"
You fucked up if you did this, it wasn't the game's fault.
My intention was to use both, If I focus on blood only I'm gonna have to feed CONSTANTLY, and if I only use guns only I'm gonna be broke from buying ammo.
there are a few fights were your blood pool isn't really enough to blood magic the enemy to death. Not many, given the power that damages and gives blood but some.
Any build is viable as long as you put effort into it.
The exception is a social build with Nosferatu, which is literally impossible, or a non-combat build, which will fuck you over in the later parts where combat is unavoidable.
More likely it just won't be possible to be a non-combat character. Not expecting much in the way of character building. They're using a system where you start off choosing one of three disciplines and then later join one of five clans to get two more. This is obviously because they don't want the single most important decision you make to be the very first one you make.
Also, don't need to put points into stats to wield certain weapons and you can gain permanent buffs by feeding on humans with specific mood states. All this suggests they're moving away from traditional stat screens and attributes and instead using a system that zoomers can handle. You may end up getting choices and meaningful consequences and branching stories out the wazoo but don't expect deep character building. Once you've chosen your three disciplines that will probably be it, maybe some perks you can grab like in Skyrim afterwards.
>You only need like 5 or 6 points in Melee and Firearms to use them efficiently.
OP, ignore this retard. Any combat stat that you specialize in should ideally be maxed by the Endgame.
If you do that you have to neglect non-combat stats, which is just unfun because it's the non-combat parts that make the game fun in the first place.
Nosferatu are still capable of being social. They just have fewer situations where they can use it on humans, and seduction is completely inaccessible. The only really sensible build for a Nosferatu is a stealthy, lockpicking hacker with good melee skill and some persuasion or perhaps intimidation even though it's inferior, but you may want it for roleplaying reasons. Nosferatu are definitely the most limiting clan so I find them pretty boring to play beyond the first time playing them.
Tremere's a good clan that can deal with combat while speccing into dialogue options and evening getting a new apartment and the Strauss ending. All in all a good one to start with.
>OP, ignore this retard. Any combat stat that you specialize in should ideally be maxed by the Endgame.
Even Jack tells you that you should learn both during the tutorial. You've probably never even tried it. 5 points in Firearms is more than enough to use the auto shotgun and any of the bladed weapons will work fine with 5 or 6 points in Melee as long as your feat adjustment isn't negative.
Anyone can get the Strauss ending. Tremere do get the best apartment though, I'll grant you that.
On the title screen there should be an option that says "New Game" in a fancy font: That's the one you want to select.
yeah I mean they can get it, I feel like some clan couldn't but that could just be because it's been a while
a little of an explanation for clueless meleeboos
you get NO RECOIL on perfect ranged feat
styer/kilmatic/bolt action + 10 ranged = the most effortless endgame
>guns are useless until you get to Hollywood
You get the regular shotgun during Santa Monica and it's pretty strong
CQM actually gives you a way to skip the sewers and the mandarin trials.
Yeah but you can't buy ammo for it until Downtown and won't find more than a few bullets until the warehouse mission which is the final bit of story content before you unlock Downtown. And by the time you're in Downtown it's a piece of shit.
Picked Gangrel and bascially just focused Protean, holy shit what a feeling when you get War Form
>tfw picked the slut class
>put a ton of points into social stuff and knowledge, except for two points into melee
>coasting through the start with pink dialogue options
Kinda sad it'll end soon, and that more games don't do not just smooth talking but opposite sex persuasion/flirting. I noticed that Fallout 4's "dialogue options" were just an increased chance for success on colored lines.
Also where the fuck is the slut clan leader?
The only primogen you actually meet are the Tremere and Nosferatu ones. You'll meet some noteworthy Toreador in Hollywood later on.
Toreador are actually one of the stronger combat clans because Celerity is god tier at higher levels. You will be dodging bullets. Make sure to invest in guns, because Celerity + guns makes the combat actually fun.
True
I'm having fun being a slut with a knife in her pocket that can gofast when she needs to.
I'm guessing the Toreador guy is the one who sent the letter saying something like "Swiggity swoogity, search for me under the dark sun boogity"? I need to find him to tell him that dead people can't write a letter. It's illegal.
no
>GoG comes with this preinstalled
yeah but I got this with the gog patch, so, I'm updating it.
No, that was the Tremere guy, Strauss. Despite receiving the letter at the start of the game, he's downtown so you can't advance the quest right away.
*** THE OFFICIAL BEGINNER GUIDE ***
IGNORE FALSE KNOWLEDGE FROM probably a camy sympathizer as well
MOST IMPORTANT !!!
- do not play this as an action game
- invest in Persuasion feat up to 8
- Unarmed feat is used to suck blood 'in combat'
- investigation feat is nice to have around 4-5 for the first play through
- firearms are tricky. they are best with ranged feat 10 (not 9, you need it up to 10) and almost every gun up to Hollywood is garbage so it's an endgame pick
- by Hollywood you need to have either good melee (6-7) or firearms feats
- all combat up to Hollywood can be done with Bloodbuff and almost no points in unarmed or melee feats
dunno if this user will be in this thread, but, I literally just started up the game when that happened.
Opened dialogue with the tv show guy and convinced him that pisha and his friends were fooling him, then got that wierd cinematic angle.
I posted in your other thread telling you that just closing and reopening the game should fix it, if you didn't see. The game gets memory errors when it's been running for a few hours but just reopening it will fix.
oh wow, literally within seconds of each other.
Isaac is probs the highest ranking toreador as a baron
Okay. I guess it's possible it's just something broken in an older version of the patch, that kind of happens often. Unless you're just installing a hotfix patch, it's usually recommended to start a new game though otherwise patching and using a previous save can cause more problems. Maybe just reloading an older save and trying it again would work if you didn't attempt that.
good taste
Don't open it.
do not install mods on your first playthrough. No plus patch. Avoid all spoilers, don'T get distracted while playing the game. Live in the world.
Explore all the environments. I don't like that in these newbie threads that everyone tells you exactly where to spend your points. Apart from at the end, almost every building, quest, puzzle has 3 alternate ways to approach it - so explore your environment because your build probably allows it.
Haven't got enough stealth? No lockpicking? There might be a maintenance shaft that takes you around the area. Can you convince someone to give you the key?
VTM 2 will be a tranny shit fest full of feminists and shit Andromeda tier writing (because women can't write narrative for shit)
ok incel
tl;dr?
lmbo faggot
Hold up, why do jeanette and VV have the same choker?
I fucked it up , i'm 10 hours into the game and didnt know about the unofficial patch
Should i install it and start the game again or just continue and add the patch next playthrough ?
does it break the save? Restart if yes and before chinatown then sure imo
Just to double check, which platform are you on? GOG, Steam?
GOG already has the 1.2 patch and that's all you need to complete the game.
Steam
How the fuck did you get it to even start?
If you have any humanity you won't support Activision by buying this game. The developers won't get a cent, so don't do it. Pirate the GOG version.
Then it's best to just get the patch and redo it user
10 hours, but first playthrough? You're in Hollywood then?
I dunno, either do it all exactly the same, or choose a clan that approaches everything really differently with different skills, attributes etc to see how it can be different
>first time playing as ventrue
>talking/dominating my way through the game
>shooting stuff even though I have fuck all skills in it
>get to later part of the game
>crawl my way through sewers slowly ranking guns up as I progress the final sections
>last couple of areas I'm demolishing everything and with the money I'm given I can finally stock up on everything I need
>we opened the coffin
Are you retarded? He already owns the game, we're asking what he's using.
1. don't play malkavian on your first playthrough since the dialogue will spoil shit for you. nosferatu limits where you can go so probably skip them as well. disregard edgy faggot incels saying otherwise.
2. the last 1/3 of the game is a ton of combat so be prepared (when you get to the 'sewers'. you'll know it when you see it).
3. install the unofficial patch.
4. persuasion is good. that one skill that shows you where things are is garbage.
5. DO. NOT. OPEN. IT. trust me, you'll know what i mean when the time comes. it's not just a meme that people post. we really mean it. DO. NOT. OPEN. IT.
enjoy.
>decide to give the game another shot
>pick Tremere this time
>It actually is that fucking good
Fuck me this is game journo difficulty, are they this good all the way to end game?
I couldn't , it read engine error or something but a found a small patch on the Steam community and it ran fine after that , no mayor issue so far
Only problem is i have to delete the process on the console because for some reason the damn game wont start first time clicking it
Yes Hollywood still
The bomb mission
You've made a powerful enemy today.
>given the power that damages and gives blood but some.
How does that even work?
I tried using it a few times, but no matter what happened I never got any blood for using it, even when still.
Oh she's one of those fags who helped all the Pig Butcher levels get cut from HM2
This isn't the thread for it but holy shit fuck you nigga if you didn't get the setting for it, Hotline Miami takes place in an alternate 1980s america, no fucking shit people talk like that to women in the game, get over yourself, for fuck's sake there were multiple levels cut and songs not even used that are still in the soundtrack's album, I'm still fucking seething
>1. don't play malkavian on your first playthrough since the dialogue will spoil shit for you. nosferatu limits where you can go so probably skip them as well. disregard edgy faggot incels saying otherwise.
there aren't really that many things to spoil in the game, and most people probably won't get them their first time anyway. you can pretty much do everything as a nosferatu and other people have played them first and enjoyed doing so.
stop trying to make choices for other people. if you aren't just reading all the clan descriptions and deciding for yourself, you're doing it wrong.
Ventrue>Malkavian>trash>others>absolute shit>Brujah
>siding with the commie furries
ISHYGDDT
>CQM
wat.
I actually never got to the point where I should open it or not but honestly I want to just to see why
OP here.
I saved lily and that bounty hunter and now my humanity is one off perfect. I'm a goody two shoes so I'm guessing going feral won't be that big an issue for me.
Game wants me to go into the asylum for the story but the sidequests are fucking great.
I HATE how Walking is slow as shit (and no walk toggle) and running is a million miles an hour. It's irritating as fuck.
clan quest mod. its aight.
my experience is to use and wait. If you spam it, you'll only get blood back for the first shot
might be modified on different patches otherwise?
>twilight vampires over anyone
t.commie vampire
That is simply not true.
Brujah are garbage but Toreador are definitely the biggest faggots around.
>GOG already has the 1.2 patch
Pretty sure GOG has patch 9.something
10.2
>my humanity is one off perfect. I'm a goody two shoes so I'm guessing going feral won't be that big an issue for me
Yeah, I doubt you'll be Frenzy'ing much with near perfect Humanity. Keep in mind that both high Humanity characters and low Humanity characters will have slightly different dialogue options on occasion. Both are viable role-playing options depending on how you want to act in the game and how much of a dick you do or do not want to be.
>but the sidequests are fucking great
Side quests are the best part of the fucking game.
They better add in options to be a vampire traditionalist. I may be a blood drinking monster, but I'm no degenerate.
>thinking that the PC won't be a soi blood consuming cuck no matter what choices player makes
I cant believe there isnt a mod for vtmb that lets you play as a malk thats not a fish malk. It's fun the first or second time but wears out if you do reruns. I think the vtmb2 malks look a lot more promising in this.
I hope they don't do that shit. Go ahead, add your 'woke' to the game, but make it a choice with the opposite being equal.
The dialogue options in those gameplay trailers was a bit try hard on some choices but I don't remember seeing woke shit. Not like they've shown much of fucking anything though.
Just got the steam version, I'm seeing 2 patches online, the "unofficial patch" and the "true patch" Why are there two patches for the same game?
When I look for a reason, all I'm getting is a bunch of people screeching at each other about the patch being "not true to the original game" and "the creator is a sex addict".
That's hopeful then.
Sell skill books to shops, and buy them back twice for double the skill points
The unarmed combo by holding S can juggle ANY humanoid enemy until death if you've ever touched a fighting game once
Brawl factors into your feed roll. Pop blood buff mid combat, then feed on an enemy for a bullet shield turned healing pod
Persuasion is always good
Seduction is okay for girls
Intimidate is dumb nigger shit that gets you a few extra bucks by extorting characters
>Why are there two patches for the same game?
Because why not? Some autist got upset of some shit included in UP and thus made his own version free of it.
use unofficial patch but don't install the plus version
true patch came out of the controversy when the UP started to include new stuff, but now it has been split up in basic and plus (plus being the additional stuff)
unoffical patch is the more tested and maintained patch
>burjah: commies
>gangrel: furfags
>malkavian: redditors
>nosferatu: incels
>toreador: trannies
>tremere: betas
>ventrue: solbols
I mean, one of the intimidation choices for some rando gang member was literally "I'm a vampire fucker so back off" so "hopeful" is a bit too strong. It is flexible though.
You can use both of them I believe at same time.
>Sell skill books to shops, and buy them back twice for double the skill points
Wait, this works? What's to stop you from doing it infinitely?
>Brujah: Teenagers
ftfy
surface level interpretation but still based
True Patch has dumb new textures. Would recommend the Unofficial Patch.
If you're exploring the downtown sewers, don't take the 'B' exit unless you're told to do so by a quest, otherwise you may well cause a bug later on in the game.
t. started playing this week and found out the hard way
Book have a quick hard cap. Like the first book on firearms caps at teaching you the second rank. So ideally you put no points in firearms in character creation, get the book, sell it, rebuy and use twice using your scholarship skill, and effectively get it free.
If you combine skill books with skill "trainers" though like Nines that will teach you brawl to a certain point, you can minmax and effectively get Brawl4 for free even on the weakest, nerdiest Tremere
How is the 'Final Nights' mod? Is CQM good? Also, I fucked up and couldn't have my ventrue vampgirl clam jam Jeanette.
>scholarship skill
That is some serious bullshit. Why the fuck do you need "scholarship" to read a fucking book?
You have to be able to comprehend what you're reading, duh! Scholarship also adds an extra +1 to persuasion with every rank, so it's effectively broken once you factor in how many free skill points it can give you in addition to the diplomat potential
Bloodlines is a great game, and once you understand the mechanics, you can do stupid shit like nearly maxing every fun skill/discipline on later playthroughs
The more you learn, the more you will be capable of understanding.
A person who cannot read, cannot understand books.
If you can read, but you are without a foundation in mathematics or psychology, you won't be able to comprehend a thesis on mathematics, or the finer intricacies of human (or inhuman) interactions.
You might be surprised how much knowledge of biology is needed to be a good fighter.
Any other mods besides UP? Like any graphical mods?
I don't like how the ending was just a prank bro.
Guys
I really want to open it
There's TONS of mods. Very few are worth using. And none are really recommended on a first playthrough.
I played the game once. Will do it again soon. Give me worthwhile mods to install. Is that clan quest mod worth?
What is so bad about getting played like a fiddle (alongside almost every other vampire in the city) by Smiling Jack and Caine?
>Everyone keeps telling me not to open it
>I don't even know what it is
>But I know what I want to do
Imma guess that chick on the beach spouting insanity was referring to IT though.
It felt dumb, I felt dumb. I wanted muh apocalypse.
The Unofficial Patch came first, but some people didn't like how it was making arbitrary changes and modding the game instead of just fixing bugs so they made the True Patch.
Unofficial Patch basic is mostly just bugfixes but it still makes changes that alter the content or affect game balance and I don't like that since most of the changes it makes are bad.
If you're talking about the watermark on the dumpster texture then that's been removed.
>Caine
That's debatable and you know it.
I know what it is, and I think I know what's in it. But the mystery is still there, oddly enough.
Really hoping it doesn't result in my save file getting nuked or something, given how much people meme it but never outright say what it does.
Open it. Do it.
>Imma guess that chick on the beach spouting insanity was referring to IT though.
Yup, most of her visions are related to it.
So should I use the true patch, or the unofficial patch?
I'm seeing many conflicting opinions here.
What does the unofficial patch add anyways?
Everything in the game(even in the files) implies that it was him, but the WW decides to change it after the game was realized becaused of the books that came after.
But since the new game is coming, it may or may not reveal if it was trully him. Hell they could even say "fuck it" and ignore the events in the book, and make the game it's own universe.
Just got the sarcophagus back, this game got a whole lot easier once I got to 10 ranged
Bloodlines doesn't necessarily follow the pre-established lore, or books, or what have you. So by that notion, it very well was him, whether WW likes it or not.
I know the Unofficial Patch basic makes it so whenever you walk near an NPC on the hubs, they make some random comment. It doesn't happen in the vanilla game and I find it pretty weird and immersion breaking. Previous versions of the patch altered how Disciplines work, changed emails in the game, changed character dialogue, and stuff like that, and that was in the basic version of the patch that's supposed to be only bugfixes. I think most of the extra shit has been removed at this point but I don't know because I stopped using it and switched to the True Patch. I got tired of my game being edited by some random modder when I just wanted bugfixes.
Unofficial Patch basic is still mostly vanilla and I guess it's fine but you should use the True Patch if you really care about the game being unchanged except for bugfixes.
Maybe he meant it's debatable about Caine having a part in anything that happened. I think him being there as the cab driver is mostly a metaphor. It was definitely intended to be Caine by the original devs though.
That sounds more like a lore change than a bug patch.
Thanks for the help user, have a nice day.
Good luck, the easy part of the game is finally over.
How do I know if I have the plus patch installed?
>"Goth/punk subculture has always been queer"
The Nosferatu and Tremere are gonna be made into non-binary transfags, aren't they?
Go for a celerity + social build, the gun-fu bullettime is not only powerful but easily the most fun of all the combat disciplines and talking with everyone everywhere is worth it. Skill research and find skill books and computers because there's lots of them. Obfuscate is as OP as it is fun. Don't listen to anons saying don't open it, more fun to make up your own mind.
Your average trannie is way uglier than any Nosferatu though.
>The Nosferatu and Tremere are gonna be made into non-binary transfags, aren't they?
If I'm not wrong, I thiiiiiiiink there's a nazi trans Nosferatu/Tzimisce in the books? Can some lorefag help me here?
>You guys got any beginners tips?
Just go in blind, it is easy enough, just don't forget to focus fighting skills since you won't be able to talk out of everything
I FUCKING OPENED IT I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED FUCK
>Obfuscate is as OP as it is fun.
The first couple levels aren't that bad but when maxed it basically turns into
>do you want to stealth kill everyone in this room while only using 1 or 2 obfuscates at most
>hmmm...
>today I'll open it even after been warned to not to
>clueless
>oh god oh fuck
Less foundation, red or pink lipstick
