This. Very stagnant and releuctant to make any major changes but no game has ever been straight up unplayable, they're all for the most part the same exact thing.

Compare Final Fantasy VII with Pokemon Red.
Now compare FFXV with Pokemon Sun/moon
Or Resident Evil Remake 2/7 with Pokemon Sun/moon

It feels pointless to even keep caring. No matter what they do, how much they simplify, take away, and etc. The series will ALWAYS sell, no matter what. Just give up caring and move on, because even at worst, this will sell 10+ million units.

believe it or not the series is actually good for the most part and i was willing to keep playing it until they took away things i cared about

i skipped gen 7 because it made things way too cutscene heavy with story nobody cared about, unlike gen 5's story which actually tried to be somewhat meaningful, and i was prepared to pick it back up with gen 8 until i saw they they had ditched mega evolutions, something that was actually good for making old pokemon more viable, in favor of dumb as fuck BIG POKEMON MECHANIC and that they had literally

LITERALLY

taken out hundreds of pokemon due to "constraints" despite running the most profitable franchise on the planet, which is entirely inexcusable

i will not play the series when they take out things of consequence, i let them get away with taking out following pokemon, ball seals, secret bases, and much more, but here we are with them actually taking out the backbone of the entire series—the pokemon themselves—and i'm done going along with it

Pokemon isn't just a video game series, it's the way a certain group of people connect with each other. If you don't pick up the new game, your social life vanishes because you're too pathetic to bond over shared experiences, you have to do it over a corporate product. These are the kinds of things that pass for friendship in the current year. That's how powerful a big brand like Pokemon can be
