So since the reveal of android 17 in smash, I wanted to try out this series, preferably in numerical order (and spin offs). I'm familiar with final fantasy games and see that they play similarly, but what am I in for?

They're all pretty good desu. Even 2 which can be a drag has a lot of merit and soul if you just give it a chance.

pay attention to the general threat on /dqg/ in the coming days. user is finishing up updating the guide for DQ

What consoles you have access to? You should definitely play IV first, in my opinion its not as good as V but its a better place to start

everything, and also pc

I started at IV DS, loved it so much I burned through V DS, then kinda got bored partway into DQVI

Who the fuck is Android 17? Are you talking about The Luminary?

If your going to play 2 play the mobile version. There is a change to the spell 'zoom' that makes the game so much more bearable.

Get IV and V and VI if you can on DS, the zenthian trilogy is in my opinion and many others a great place to start and it sets you up to overwhelmingly enjoy the 3d titles (7,8,9, 11) even more.
Not to mention, gamestop does buy one get one half off DS games right now, i bought all three for around 40 bucks. Would imagine the prices on these games are about to skyrocket due to the smash dragon quest inclusion and people wanting to play the games. If you're interested in even reselling these at some point for a profit, go buy these from gamestop or their website now. Take note of fire emblem if you want to see just how rare the older games are now.

if you play DQV don't pick the DS exclusive bitch, i thought maybe she softened up later on but even after having two kids with you and being trapped in stone she still treats you like shit, it kinda sucks

>but what am I in for?
A gooreat time!

2 and 6 are skippable. 7 is a long haul. and all of them, even the bad ones, are better than every piece of shit FF game

You sir, are a man of culture

2 is fun if you play it right after 1.

The ultimate comfy game experience.
Check out the DQ threads on /vg/, one guy is currently working on a comprehensive beginners guide right now

Three arrows and the board before the thread number, user.

I see these threads all the time now, I'm happy new people will play dragon quest because of it and sad that new people will shit up dragon quest threads.
I hope you have a good time user start from 1 and go through to 11. Builders and heros are fun too. Mobile ports are just as good as DS ports so pick and choose.
Absolutely worst possible taste on this board, not to mention completely wrong.

False, but I can see how you'd think that. She does soften up, but only really sometime before the final dungeon and during the final dungeon, and you need to use Party Chat to see it.
Anyways, besides that, she's definitely the most interesting and entertaining wife. I pity your poor taste.

i mean it was fun i was just saying do it on a second run cuz it's more satisfying to go for bianca since it gives you actual payoff to the long annoying prologue of the game.

FFXV was so bad it sent me back in time to the DS era to start playing these instead and I don't regret it.

I'm exaggerating. I know I should have been using Party Chat, I am just so used to cutscenes and Tales skits to prompt me for extra story that I forget in DQ you have to manually talk to party members after stuff happens to get lore. If you only go by the non-party chat stuff she is REALLY cold, and it takes way longer than it should for her to warm up to you (hint: having two kids should probably make her a little less frigid, but it doesn't or it's barely noticeable).

until you get the boat
