Why the FUCK haven’t I played this sooner?

I've noticed that Yea Forums seems to like the first one better (and I'm glad, and agree) but outside of Yea Forums I seem to see more people liking Tooie more.

Back from, like, 2005-2008, I posted on the Spiral Mountain web forum, and these kids were obsessed with the five or so Banjo games, and generally, they put Tooie as #1, and Kazooie as #2.

Not only backtracking, but tedious, tedious sequences that feel like nothing but padding. It's a fun game, and better than most, but the first is much better. Better world designs, too.

Almost completely accurate - Tooie has little inspired sparks of life once in a while. Worth trying, at least.

Rare had a dirty tactic to make you keep playing, the reason the ending scared you was because it was supposed to, despite having autosaving, the game tricks you into selecting Save and Quit when you stop playing, which prompts a bad ending, guilt tripping you into playing through the rest of the game and getting the good ending, Donkey Kong 64 did the same thing

There's also some weird thing the game does (possibly to fuck with you) where the game deletes your data, it asks you if you want to delete it, then when you press anything it deletes the file, but when you reset the console, your data is completely fine, this happened to my game twice and it freaked me out both times, either I have a glitched copy or its rare fucking with you

Just the reply chain is enraging. But, yes, you should try it. The move sets are better, the worlds are better. People complain that they’re empty, but I really found them much more creative than Kazooies. And I personally love backtracking; there’s something rewarding about remembering a certain, unattainable area that you can gain access to later. Tooie has more of a melancholy to it, and I kind of like how that carried throughout the game. Spiral Mountain’s music in Tooie is also #1 in the series in my opinion.

I don’t know what is “tedious” about the game other than canary Mary, which does undeniably suck, or Grunty Industries, which is the hardest level in the series and definitely filters people. I like it however; it has this dingy, industrialist atmosphere and everyone is miserable. Odd yet compelling design choice for a level.

I'm surprised how adamant Tooie fans are, personally I can kind of understand, Tooie's not my favorite yet I think Donkey Kong 64 is my favorite, DK64 is said to be the most tedious but I find Tooie more so, I think it's because how slow paced it is, DK64 has so many golden bananas and Tooie has only 90 jiggies, to it feels like an eternity to collect just one.

I have such fond memories of DK64z honestly, and this is probably blasphemous for many, but my preference is: Tooie > DK64 > Kazooie >Conker

I put conker on the bottom because the game becomes actual garbage by the end. It was a rushed, unfinished game because they were moving on from the N64. The humor and initial worlds are brilliant but, man, that game really goes to shit

My conspiracy theory for nobody liking DK64 is that there's already so many other Donkey Kong games, but there's only a few Banjo games, if you're going to play a 3d platformer collectathon, why not chose the special ones? Banjo and Tooie feel more special

I fondly remember DK64, but it's so unbelievably all over the place I never want to replay it. If people are saying Tooie has more backtracking than DK64, they're completely full of shit and you should disregard their opinion.

Just some, shortcuts and warp-pads help significantly and half the cross-world jiggies are put straight into your collection so you don't have to go back.

DK64 suffered from colour-coding its collectibles. It'd be more fondly remembered if you could do most of the game with your favourite kong, and then tag out only when you need a specific kong's special move to advance.
Running down the same hallway three times because the bananas are different colours does not a good game make.
