Where did things go so wrong?
I wish
apart from the p2w and making party play shit, current maple is a better game. the biggest change is just the community.
No, my late middle school, early highschool years were shit. My shitty computer couldn't run MS or WoW
How exactly did people play this game without being hopped up on adderall? It was the most repetitive and grindy MMORPG I've ever played. Just endlessly mass-killing the same mobs over and over and over and over for hours on end just to get 1 level up.
Remember box puzzles?
>play ms2
>it's nothing like ms1
I remember the good old days, back then I didn't have carpal tunnel syndrome either
Pic related is me
What real benefit did F2P over over people who bought NX in early-ish Maple?
Biggest thing that comes to mind is x2 EXP/Drop Coupons and the Gacha; not for the equips you got (you could always buy/get equips from drops) but for the Scrolls
Even then, the good scrolls ones (10%) had extremely low success rates and it was even grounds for everyone who actually tried to scroll something
Leveling to 275 takes longer than the old 200 btw
Is Ms even worth playing anymore
I've been bored to death for the past few weeks because there's nothing decent to waste my time on
Everything is fucking pay to win these days, even full priced games
Yes, that was when I spent most of my Yea Forums time on /f/ watching and playing flash shit. Which that mmo incidentally looks like.
Ruined main draw of the game by making it about leveling up quicker and then made the late-game grind even worse
Nice
no
unironically play WoW classic, it's insanely better than Maple.
t. user who played Maple around 2005-2006 and hated it, then played WoW and fucking loved it
*instead of having people be stuck on decade old content they instead make people be able to play the new actually good content
Seriously you fucking retards always complain about this shit when it's fucking retarded and you obviously are just nostalgiafagging because they decided to make a game that people can actually play.
No actual person wants to be a useless piece of garbage that has to auto attack snails for hundreds of hours before you get to any real content.
Hard to swallow pills: MS was never good.
The novelty of sharing experiences with others through the same game is what made playing multiplayer games of this era great, but people tend to attach that to the game itself.
Same thing as Runescape. I strongly regret playing the 2007 server as it completely killed the strong nostalgia I had for the game. I realized the only reason I liked it was because I was a kid at the time and the game was pretty much an interactive chatroom.
cute equips and satisfying skills, also the social aspect was huge
Is EU MS worth playing now? How much content is missing and how's the playerbase?
Everything went downhill after big bang.
youtube.com
Remember that time Nexon plagiarized Symphony of the Night for a boss fight?
post maple osts
Not the official version, stick to private servers
You're on the right track, but it's not the whole "sharing an experience with friends" thing because I still play games with my old ass MS buddies. We don't like every game we play like we all loved MS.
The big difference is age. We were young, and MS was a new experience for us. It was a new experience for basically every westerner who played it, and it birthed tens of thousands of weebs. Nostalgia is 90% of why people remember the early years of this game fondly.
Wow, that song is awful.
>tfw i used to unironically listen to this and relate to it
being 12 was a fucking trip bros
can I post nu maple ost
youtube.com
>new content
>actually good
Pick one
>No actual person wants to be a useless piece of garbage that has to auto attack snails for hundreds of hours before you get to any real content
>What are party quests, one of main ways to level and bring people together to play
While I'll agree that some of the recent QoL updates to Maple made it more player friendly, the game now is nothing more than a glorified solo grinding game
For those who are complaining that it took too much time to level up in pre-bb maple, you are wrong, it was easy as fuck.
The problem is that everyone was killing low level monsters all time time, mostly because how accuracy worked back then.
If you went to hunt high level monsters or do only PQs it was easy to hit 120.
Fuck no it wasn't easy to level unless you were a NEET in 2004.
It took me 3 weeks of grinding for 6+ hours every day after high school to get to level 30.
It took even long to reach level 70 at my third job advancement, and even LONGER to get to 120.
Shit was awful, but rewarding as fuck once you got the job advancement. The only reason it took longer for people was because anything below Level 30 was FILLED with thousands of people all trying to level up. Once you got past level 30, all the grinding locations and PQ's weren't filled at all, and you could grind the same PQ's multiple times in a day.
However, it still took long as fuck to grind it out even with the ability to do Ludibrium or Horntail 90 times a day.
I dated the person that owns this channl
You're not fooling anyone. Maplestory has actual content now that can actually be enjoyed by people as a game. There's actually content you can do beyond just grinding.
>the game now is nothing more than a glorified solo grinding game
The only difference was back then party quests where the best way to level early on.
There is actual challenging endgame content now that incentives *actually* playing with others.
No, holding down a single button while spamming pots every time you got hit for literal hours is not challenging. It's a waste of time. You aren't working with other people, you just happen to be attacking the same monster.
I do agree that party quests should have come back, Hungry Muto technically counts as a party quest but it's so basic and completely doable solo that it doesn't count. You also get sick of it after having to do it multiple times every single fucking day.
As a game, modern maple is much better than oldschool maple. But it lacks the community
So, can anyone explain me the ludibrium lore again?
>The only difference was back then party quests where the best way to level early on
Party quests were one of the best ways to level up to until 70-ish
>There is actual challenging endgame content now that incentives *actually* playing with others.
This is a good thing, as I know a lot of people in the past preferred to run their bosses solo; or if you joined a party there was little to no communication at all aside from rushing in and killing the boss(es)
>No, holding down a single button while spamming pots every time you got hit for literal hours is not challenging.
I mean, you still do this in current MapleStory while leveling and with bosses
>It's a waste of time. You aren't working with other people, you just happen to be attacking the same monster
I'm not even sure what you're going on about now, just hunting monsters in general? Because Party Quests required communication and working together
>As a game, modern maple is much better than oldschool maple. But it lacks the community
Like I said, current MapleStory has its positives
One of the main draws of MapleStory was that it was a very community based game with cute 2D graphics
It was never really about grinding
The fact that its lost one of the most important elements of not only a MMO, but the game itself is just sad
I was purely talking about bosses, I don't think a boss being a static enemy you just whail on is good gameplay at all, and again you aren't actually interacting with other people, you are simply in the same room hitting on the same monster. Even comparing old zakum to root abyss was a huge step up.
You can hate Magnus all you want but in that fight you actually had to pay a lot of attention and put effort into playing the game to be able to beat him.
Endgame bosses are now like raid bosses with mechanics that make them actually interesting to fight.
>Because Party Quests required communication and working together
Yes they did, that's why i said they should have come back. BUT at the same time they weren't dynamic at all. If you did it once you practically don't need to do much for the next times you do it since they are so static. It would be good if they added dynamic party quests that require realtime teamwork, not that shit where you just need to have a thief.
I'd argue that certain portions of some were somewhat dynamic (ie: number guessing game, shadow monsters in ludi PQ) but fully dynamic PQ's would be amazing
Nu-maple may be shit, but if there's one thing the gave has done consistently right it's the tunes. I can't think of a single BGM that I disliked
youtube.com
Party Quests and bosses have some of the best effort i've ever seen put into shit in MMO's
It's a shame how maplestory basically pushed them out and nobody does them
>Mfw finally playing OSM and experiencing that good ol nostalgia only for the server to get fucked by shitty devs
But bosses are still very important for getting the best gear in the game, when I was still playing earlier this year I was doing Lotus and Damien every weekly reset with my guild which where fun to do.
PLEASE I JUST WANNA EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN
>remove RPG elements
>introducing unskippable "story" content
>over-reliance on dailies
ya bro, I ain't sayin old maple is better but their current direction is fucking lopsided
>with the most recent patch Nexon nerfed Kanna's Kishin and introduced ridiculously expensive and short duration fury totems to the cash shop as some sort of compensation
I was considering checking the game out again with the buffs to the class that I played, but frankly it's insulting how little Nexon understands their community
Random rolls that where useless because of an optimal roll existing is not RPG mechanics
Being fucked over permanently because of you leveling something wrong is not RPG mechanics.
You can skip all the story content, not to mention there are actual decent stories worth playing that are purely optional.
True, the dailies are way too fucking much. I'd be fine if it was either a lot of quick dailies or a few time required dailies, but instead you have to do a fuckton of long dailies, with some requiring a lot of attention like Spritit Savior which while fun at first can suck my fucking balls if you play a class without good mobility.
Nexon NA is fucking retarded is why. Everyone has been asking for something that fixes kishin so that a kanna isn't required for optimal grinding anymore. Instead they fuck over people with kanna and barely do anything for those that don't have her. It's fucking retarded.
KMS doesn't have these problems because they never got kishin
>private servers
too many mentally ill retards
complaining and pleading isnt going to get that time machine made sooner
>removed class builds and stat builds
>removed aggro, crowd-control, status effects - anything that doesn't contribute to damage
>removed class specific mechanics - everyone can tank, everyone can FJ, no more elemental-weak monsters
But the biggest sin that they've committed that bugs the fuck outta me that isn't said enough is they just removed any kind of sense of exploration and adventure. Hiddenstreets being one-trick ponies is one thing, but secrets, loot, travelling have all become streamlined. Like, I'm at fucking Esfera, and there's all these buildings and shit, and not one of them can I enter, like a house. They all lead to shitty training map #507. Remember when getting through maps was a challenge? Or a treat, if you find a map specific boss? They have that automated too, shitty generic shadow bosses that drop generic shitty rewards.
Maple Story has always been god awful. Combat arms was good for a couple years though
Maplestory was good before 4th job before it became a massive pay2win shitshow
I think the elite monsters/bosses are a good idea, they break up the monotony of grinding a bit. They should not however be a replacement for hidden area mini bosses and whatnot, which they obviously are nowadays. I agree that new areas/maps are very "flat" and railroady
youtube.com
>being 10 and playing ragnarok until 5am
I honestly want to go back
Scrolls, Potentials, Bonus Potentials, Starforce, Flames
Why are there so many fucking ways of upgrading your gear? And you need to do these for every fucking piece. Then just in case that wasn't enough you need to get a boss soul onto your weapon, make sure it has the right stat!
I'll gladly take the existance of classes like blaster, cadena and evan over having half the classes be useless.
Having more than just FJ and Teleport as mobility would be better. More roles instead of only bishop and kanna being supports
Yeah the original exploration and discovery aspect is completely gone from the game, though arguably less people care about that stuff in mmos sadly. The maps should be less streamlined and generic, 75% of the maps are useless too.
>2005+
No.
I played the game between 2003-2005 so I have no idea how the rest of the game was, but BETA was awesome.
What's that, you spend literal months getting that arcane umbra weapon?
*Blows up trying to get it to 22 star*
Phantom and Beast Master are both supports, but phantom just uses recycled skills and beast master just gives weaker versions of bishop's buffs
I don't remember what year but I member classic ace of spades
Right i forgot about beast master, but shes basically useless like all other non kms classes that aren't kanna.
Kanna was such a huge mistake holy shit, nexon na are fucked regardless of what they do but their current changes are just beyond retarded.
I Played a bit when ludi came out. Did something to do with malware happened?
Was gonna try MapleStory again but decided to try mabi since they merged the servers and were having 10x exp and ap events. Gotta say I'm having fun after quitting many years ago I know it's not gonna last but fuck I remember loving this game.
> but rewarding as fuck once you got the job advancement
not true. once you get the job advancement you realize need 20 more levels before you can properly use your new skills.
Isn't Hayato pretty good? Last I heard he had pretty decent DPS
It's not fair to compare solo classes to classes that were obviously made to have weakness and strengths, juxtaposed with their other counterparts. In fact, I like the idea of combo classes like Blaster and Cadena.
I just think Nexon should've focused on balancing the core gameplay than just having the core gameplay be simple and then making different flavors of DPS . It just leaves a lot of potential on the table unused.
>those fucking brazilian kids that took 5 minutes to move
Basically they used an anti-cheating spyware that logged the name of your open windows tabs while the game client was running and there was a leak and a bunch of furries got exposed. Now the main dev team is stepping down. They said that the malware detection was something else and not the anti-cheat system
Forgot to attach pic
based
i was playing a real man's game
RO
holy shit is there more to this malware shit I wanna laugh
holy fuck this is a goldmine, please tell me there's more
cdn.discordapp.com
Here's the full leak
There was more I think but I can't find it
I think I broke like 4 keyboards back in the day trying to complete that jumpquest you get around 60. Never have I been so mad at a video game.
>54 base dex
Most embarrassing part desu
Yes, but these korean games were always deeply flawed. They got some things so right, and then there's the game-breaking shit.
holy shit I hope the community fucked off after this lmfao
Jumpquests were such fucking horseshit. I think I did the first one and never bothered with the rest. Juice was not worth the squeeze.
>pokemon pussy juice
I feel bad for what happened to CA.
>Game is going great
>Nexon opens a HQ in brazil and Russia to sue hack developers alone so no more hackers
>Top 3 moneymakers in the world
>Nexon decides to be greedy and moves everyone in Charge of CA NA to make dirty bomb because everyone was releasing new FPS in that time
>they give CA NA to CA EU
>Introduce rental system
>Fuck anyone that has ever invested money in the game
>Nerf stuff to match the shitty EU version
>Eventually just merge both versions into the EU version with totally shit servers
>Fuck the version even more somehow
>Eventually change the game to a totally different game which made everything way worsen definitively hitting rock bottom
>Dirty bomb and old CA devs buy the game from Nexon and leave Nexon
>CA EU doing so bad it closed
RIP CA.
this is all highly illegal
i hope they get fucked in court
Usually the beta of any game, no exception is pure fun.
This is pretty scummy as fuck. It's still a bit funny though. Maple private servers, not even once.
This fucker is tiger?
I'm having more fun with 2 than I did with 1. The QoL changes are nice like pets having auto collect naturally, more mounts/flying mounts and cash shop outfits being permanent. Also 2 feels a lot more social to me and there's more to do.
i did most of the jump quests due to autism im sure. So much so that i always did jq parts of gpq. (the part with the conveyors?) we'd race, but I always got there first.
you're a qt
This is why i never did Zakum pre-bb with all my characters.
I SPENT 2 FUCKING WEEKS WITH THE FUCKING JUMP QUEST.
Thank god Mercedes could cheese it out with damage recoil and double jump post BB.
I wish we had more jump quests in 2. Ludi escape is cool and all but thats all we got.
>glove cursor
newfag detected
i miss it bros, 2 is just so shallow
The only good part of ms2 was dabbing on you hatlets.
posting a classic
youtube.com
i didnt. around patch .31 or so ZenX trainer released and it was incredibly easy to use and setup. I would just leave it on overnight or when going to school. I would play legitimately for boss encounters or when doing PQs but most of the time it was an absolute slogfest.
I gave 2 a chance for about 2 months back when it first came out. Really got boring fast. All the content was piss easy. And everyone in the game was a fucking tranny. Literally. I honest to God joined a guild at one point and didn't find out it was a tranny guild until I joined the discord.
I haven't played this game in fucking years. I just checked the website and theres all these damn classes. I stopped playing when Dual blades were released. Are all the old classes trash now?
they're still strong, but some of the newer classes are OP lategame
NL's are still the best end game bossing as usual
Here's more on it.
discord. gg/2f8hyn
Spent more time on that game than I should have. Coulda been studying for exams instead and might not have dropped out... Oh well. Here's me 14 years ago.
Older classes regularly get revamped to keep up with newer designs
For instance, Cygnus Knights were revamped to be more unique than before:

Is it time for us to play a Private Server in a Yea Forums guild again?
Was it worth it? I was addicted too but I never went full autism and let it consume my whole life
Right on! I still have mine too
Not him but yeah, to give you a idea i spent around 80k USD since i started playing in beta.
The reason i stopped playing was because the people that played with me got married or kids and had to work more than 8 hours a day so no more free time.
Here's a real classic:
I mean there is MapleMS as the only real worthwhile one atm.
call me when one doesnt die within a month, or even a week
Not in the slightest, in retrospect.
Most guilds end up like most Yea Forums servers, they last for about 2 weeks to a month or 2 max.
Either way, I would say just enjoy the moment you have.
THIS ANIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL
>made two accounts on last private server with Yea Forums(one dedicated priest)
>one of the people i shared my priest account with had an autism fit and deleted my account after i had already quit
>progressive rates
Not happening, idiot.
bump
Depends
Which one you got in mind?
Man what the fuck happened with MS2.
Never before has the ball been dropped as hard as that pre-official release.
Sometimes I think about redowloading mabi, but I just feel like the whole playerbase will be full of mostly teenagers and then I lose motivation to do it...
>tfw was an NX whore
I regret it so badly. Thankfully MS has taught me a life lesson of having more willpower in this modern era of microtransactions. Nexon was truly ahead of the game.
Only one picture of my many characters exists now.
Needless to say I'm very nostalgic for the music and the early days of MS. Playing the beta was truly a delight.
"That update" came for it really fast.
Beta and release was good but short.
Too late though
I just miss sitting at north Morroc and making friends as easily as I can breathe. No one talks to randoms anymore in MMOs, it feels like. Everyone's just running to their next questline or queuing up for another dungeon run. I don't understand how a Massively Multiplayer game can feel more lonely than a single player one.
i remember forgetting my pin, hitting up support and waiting literally a year for a reply
GREENS SUCK
where my blue bros at?
