Is it better than Return of Samus?
I hear that wall jumping is gimped in that game, and wall jumping is one of my favorite things to do in Metroid

>ruins the music and atmosphere of the original
>adds an un-needed stealth section that didn't belong in the game in the first place
>linear compared to the original
>doesn't give the player full exploration until the end of the game
>terrible bosses
>ruins the art style of the original
Zero Mission wasn't an improvement it was a regression. They should have spent time making Metroid 5 instead of putting so much focus on two remakes of games that didn't need it, Metroid and Metroid II were perfect the way they were, get fucking good you zoomer ass mother fuckers.

ok but its more fun lol

>and Metroid II were perfect the way they were

Metroid II was fucking ass, and I'm saying that as someone who's first Metroid game was Metroid II, so nostalgia should be working in its favor. AM2R improved that game in every way imaginable

I wasn't talking about your fangame, I was talking about Samus Returns, it and Zero Mission weren't needed, all that time could have been spent on Metroid 5, not them. Also, Metroid II was better than Fusion.

Subjective

It's not hard to improve that much when the original was so bare-bones.

This game was a mistake. The time to go post-Fusion was right away.

Agreed, even though it took 17 years, at least we're finally getting it.

It's not gonna be the same you know? If it were made on the GBA or DS then it would have been developed internally and had sprite-based graphics.

>The time to go post-Fusion was right away
What did you mean by this?

Return of Samus is shit.

AM2R is better, yes.

It's still developed internally, Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 7 works on 2D Metroid games, they just collaborate with third parties because their team isn't as big as some of the others.

Extremely based, Fusion was a mistake.

Graphically I fucking hated this game. Not to mention how shallow the gameplay feels and all of the "le ebic" fangame tropes that it falls into.

I'm not saying the original Return of Samus is BETTER, but I struggle to put this on the same level as Zero Mission when it comes to not only being a Metroid game, but also a remake.
I know it's a controversial topic, but I don't even know if I'd say it's better than Samus Returns

Zero Mission was a good attempt at a remake, but it was bogged down by idiotic ideas like the handholding and tacking Chozodia on the end instead of seamless integrating new content into the gameplay of the original.

This

I think it enhances it in a lot of ways.
Without new aspects or ideas you basically have Super but with a slightly adjusted map.
The hand holding isn't preferable, but it also makes the game the most accessible to newcomers and appreciated by many for that aspect alone.

Not him but if need the game to hold your hand on where to go then Zero Mission isn't a very good Metroid game.

I think the N64 version looks better graphically but the 3DS version has too many improvements for me to go back
Maybe someone should mod the old graphics and lighting back in?

Not quite sure what you are trying to say, but my point is that holding your hand doesn't inherently make the game bad, it just means that it wasn't made for you.

The game is still nonlinear enough to have the Metroid exploration charm, especially after the first couple seconds, but it also points you in the right direction knowing that it will be many peoples first Metroid game (and many up and coming Metroid fans learn to love it for that very reason).
I'll agree that it should have had an option to turn the chozo directions off though. I think a veterans mode would have benefited it so it could fall into both catagories, for new fans and old fans too. However being geared towards new fans shouldn't be a point against it

>I think the N64 version looks better graphically
Besides the lighting I can't see how

Well that's not saying much, since NES Metroid has so much dumb bullshit. Endless straight-line levels and "shoot/morph ball through the invisible block to proceed".

I could've done without the zero suit stealth part though.

I mean it really is mostly the lighting
Also Young Link's face looks kinda "off" to me in the 3DS remake, probably just me though
But if someone just focused on the lighting it'd probably take less time to mod and would improve the game quite a bit

I see what you mean as the atmosphere does take a hit but everything else just looks so much better, master quest and gyro aiming are just too good to go back

sorry, but no. the original metroid felt lonely, oppressive and alien. this remake gives it the old fashioned remake acessible, player-friendly spitshine

Original Metroid was fucking shit.

What? The original felt like a space adventure. Maybe Super felt oppressive, but not the original.

i think this is superior

Oh, and I forgot to say that Other M is the peak of the franchise!

You baiting motherfucker how could you do this to me? I trusted you

to this

I'll admit it looks cool but mechanically Zero Mission is better in every regard.

(you)

It does. The increased visual density translates poorly with the hyper-geometric tilesets and less contrast.

Still, the most "isolated and alien" NES Metroid is outside of those rooms is Norfair, and Norfair's theme sounds more like the theme tune to taking a dump.

It's entirely true

Don't at like that's a hot take. Almost everyone agrees that Zero Mission is better. The original Metroid is a fucking slog.

>soul versus souless meme
well done you've convinced me that your shitty farming trial and error shitfest is better.

I played the original Metroid on GBA and then Zero Mission a year later when it came out.

Loved both, but Zero Mission is easily in the small category of games that destroy the original. Need to play Metroid II before I decide if Samus Returns is better.

For that matter, every port/remake of Super Mario Bros 1 - 3 has been better. All-Stars's save feature for the originals, and SMB Deluxe/Advance 1-4 have some nice extras. The sound is weaker on the GBA version of Super Mario World 1/2 however.

I know it's not a remake, but Metroid Fusion is better than this one, right?

>graphically I hated a game that looked identical to zero mission

??

This

I'm surprised no one posted this yet.

Fusion has better boss fights and that's about it.

>I played the original Metroid on GBA and then Zero Mission a year later when it came out.
The original Metroid came out on GBA after Zero Mission though
Which was a fucking scam considering you can unlock the original Metroid IN Zero Mission lol

Fusion is fucking lame. Leads you by the nose, Samus is the most alien-looking thing in the game, removes half the movement shit you could do in Super. It's a bore to play and a chore to get the good ending.

People like to point out the horror sections are alright, and they are, but that's all of what, 2 minutes out of the whole game?

Hmm, how strange, I remember more things about fusion than zero mission. I guess I will play ZM again, thanks.

I remember enjoying Fusion right after playing Super for the first time but it's been so long, I should play both again

This is NOT what Zero Mission looked like

In what way, exactly?

HeartGold and SoulfulSilver

even better example

>Way too dark
>Inconsistent lighting
>The Metroid is a overdesigned mess
Just at first glance of this one screenshot

Maybe is my nostalgia speaking, but I prefer the gba music.

To be fair ZM might as well be a completely new game with how little(not at all) it even resembles the game it's supposed to be a remake of.

The metroid looks no worse than the ones in Fusion which had the same level of detail as ZM.
>Inconsistent lighting
Perhaps, but it's such a minor issue that I can't see what there is to be fussed about. This is prissy bullshit.

Agreed for them too, but there were more bugs/imbalances that needed fixing from RBY to FRLG than from GS to HGSS, so for me the gap is bigger

this, i was about to post it too

Like, literally. The Metroid itself is way way way too darkened to the point where you can barely see what it looks like. Especially compared to samus

The am2r one is just a mess of pixels compared to pic related.

I'm not saying it's awful, but it's definitely amateur

>slower
>more linear

nope. If I just want to do a basic replay I'd rather play Crystal.
