PS1 version is shit.
It's actually a port of the first version of the game with the characters added in Heritage for the Future tacked on. Which means that characters from the first version don't have specials added in HFTF because said specials weren't in the first version, among other differences.
It's like if you made a "port" of 3rd Strike that was actually just a port of New Generation, but with the roster of 3rd Strike added to it.

DC/HD HFTF is the closest to arcade but it's still not perfect, tandem times are shorter and everyone's defensive values are the same. It's close enough if you don't care about those two, but if you plan on playing competitively in tournaments of any kind you're probably going to be playing the original cps3 arcade board ver.

There's a reason a lot of people don't like 5, it's because the way it's drawn isn't really that conducive to understanding what the fuck is going on or how King Crimson works which is part of how that meme started

That along with the translations just being rough overall made it appear more terrible than it actually was. I went back and re-read 5 a while ago and I really liked it when I could tell what was actually happening better. I also think that the newer games and the anime have done a much better job of explaining KC's power.
