I hear they lost the source code
>"superior" game
>no story, no companion personalities
>just a long dungeon crawl with DnD mechanics
What's the appeal?
Its a fun, straight to the point dungeon crawl with a fully customizable party for people like me who don't always want to read a novel in an RPG
how's that different than IWD1?
and IWD1 unironically has a better story than BG2. at least it has a twist near the end.
You don't want this to get "remastered" if it's going to get the same treatment that Baldurs Gate 1&2 got.
DnD is the worst thing that happened to PC RPGs. I can never figure out this shit.
That is a fucking long dungeon crawl with dnd mechanics? The icewind serie is not for roleplaying is just kill shit. Its exactly what the game is.
Sure as hell is superior to 1 the story of the first sucked a ton in the end.
>DnD is the worst thing that happened to PC RPGs
nigga, you retarded?
Do people actually play CRPGs for the combat? What a strange world. That's like playing a racing game for the scenery.
Goddamn what a retarded post
BG2 is a journey
There isn't much story
Its just you and your buddies helping everyone and doing quests with great banter and dialouge
Heart of Fury mode
My biggest gripe with Icewind Dale is the poor class options but otherwise both games are great
Gives a good adventuran' feeling.
I actually played a lot of tdu2 just chilling and driving around.
And you are a retard.
>DnD is the worst thing that happened to PC RPGs
Completely agree.
Though Obsidian is far worse
>Install Neverwinter Knights 2 because bored out of my skull
>RTwP trash
>3.5E
>Alright, let's give them the benefit of doubt
>Horrible pathing, characters get punctually stuck around basic geometry unless I use WASD controls
>The worst camera controls known to man
>Literally Chrono Trigger tier prologue with happy village fair and whatever
>zero choices whatsoever, just four ways to say yes
>Have to constantly remind characters of what to do in battle because they just stand there
>Have to constantly pause and reclick to redirect since heaven forbid they get stuck in a perfectly fine slope or are near another ally NPC which means their orders somehow don't input
>Anything that isn't max difficulty might as well be a youtube playthrough
30 years I've been alive and I still get reminded how CRPGs are 99% jank garbage reliant on somebody else's copyrights, and 99% of those are fucking D&D, the worst system known to man.
What the fuck is wrong with the western industry? How is it that only Roguelikes and the rare indie game like Underrail end up being actually competent games?
>it's another "remastered game with terrible RTWP combat" episode
Temple of elemental evil remake when
IWD is just 6 dual classed fighter/Xs. 2 Has a ton of different setups if you're playing HoF. It's really only some of the pure melee classes that suffer in it because you'll only ever take 4 levels of fighter, barbarians and rangers are worthless and your only rogue will be something like a deep gnome monk1/rogue1/dreadmaster of Bane28.
Never ever tb shitter.
I can never seem to get this to run on my pc.... I had fond memories of never finishing it.
actual challenge, as in "git gud" and prepare. Not shitty "lol, you havn't memorized this part yet" bs.
Top tier encounter deign, second to none.
To be fair ID2 sort of slogged horrendously in several chunks of the game
>hey dude aurelite temple with lengthy corridors and repeated trash encounters
>hey dude snake-man temple with lengthy corridors, repeated trash encounters and traps
>hey dude BATTLE SQUARE
same sort of problems POE had with just adding in padding encounters.
You're not wrong but you are dumb if you don't just put on the disguised and stroll through most of the yuan-ti temple. I would say the game has great early and late sections but the airship crash through Chult is mostly bad.
Try the circle of eight modding community for an unofficial batch because Troika devs cannot make a bug-free game to save their lives.
Co8 also modded 10 more hours of endgame content if you're into that.
>played this when it first came out
>hoarded every dead cat in the game i could find, had like 4-5 of them in my inventory because i was a teenager and this amused me greatly
>endgame chapter gives me a conversation option where i attempt to distract some stupidly high level evil monster with a delicious dead cat snack
>it is momentarily baffled by my utter retardation and unsanitary hobbies
>XP gained: 19000
fucking wild, what a game
There is literally nothing wrong with the bg 1 and 2 remasters except for optional additional content with bad writing.
What was the story in IWD1? Remind me because it was so bland and generic that I literally forgot.
Runs perfectly fine on my W10 shit tier laptop, what seems to be the problem?
Also do this and add Temple+ on top of Co8, you'll end up with an actually bretty gud CRPG as long as you can get behind the snail speed of it all and, well, D&D.
>Getting through the Lord Pyros level
Planescape was the best of the IE games and it got a remaster.
I'll give those a go. I haven't tried for a few years.
Maybe if Steve Jackson hadn't pussied out on letting Fallout use GURPS things would have been different.
I loved the dead cat, best part of the game
Devil was kicked out of hell for obsessing over some feud with a demon. You kill that demon halfway in the game and now the devil wants to open a portal to hell for some reason.
the bad guy was the narrator all along
turn based ones yeah
unforunately there's like 2 cRPGs ever with good combat
Apparently they lost the original source code.
>fight spiders at level 1
>they fucking kick my ass
wtf am I doing wrong?
also this fucking game is so annoying
>have to manually pick characters that meet dialogue requirements before I even talk to the NPC, instead of the game just doing it automatically
>if a character has an item that a quest NPC needs, I have to talk to the NPC with that character instead of just doing it with the party leader
That's not an excuse as much as I much prefer GURPS to D&D, is it so fucking difficult to come up with your own ruleset for once?
Why must they all use tabletop rulesets that punctually translate horribly to videogames?
God I hate this shit, Slay the Spire is a mediocre game and it still has much better gameplay and mechanics than most of the genre, which is plain embarassing, even vanilla ToEE with all its problems and lack of content is much better to actually play than NWN2 on all fronts (hell it even looks better), I'm really trying to bear with it all but god is it bad, I hope at least the other modules are good.
>>fight spiders at level 1
>>they fucking kick my ass
Standard D&D, even a single level will make a massive difference, low level D&D is atrociously painful and ToEE's slow speed in everything makes it even more so.
>this fucking game is so annoying
Most of the old CRPGs have those same exact problems, though to be frank, ToEE adds some generous amounts of unadulterated slav jank.
IWD2 used a different ruleset so they cant just copy and paste
>Most of the old CRPGs have those same exact problems
no, even BG1 doesn't have those problems
if you mean wizardry, yeah maybe, but that's 80s level of jank
The source code for IWD 2 is apparently forever lost. People have been asking for a remaster for years, but it's not happening.
They'd have to essentially reverse engineer it, and the number crunchers have deemed it not worth the time/money involved in such a project.
On the other hand, it would be fucking Beamdog doing it, and nobody really wants that.
At least it's still playable on modern OS and hardware and you can mod it.
Yeah but the UI and font is fucking tiny in anything above 720p.
What's the point of cure spells in the infinity engine games when you can rest spam after every fight? Am I not supposed to be resting frequently?
Everything but art was better in IWD2
Art in IWD1 is the most superior of all IE games
It's dumb but I find the games best with something like a 1-3 rest limit before I have to go do it at an inn. for IWD2 in particular you'll be using some healing spells during combat in HoF.
trust me, you don't want Beamdog "remastering" this game like they did the other ones
>cheesing the entire first two thirds of HoF with animate dead because your zombos/skellers are endgame tier enemies boosted up to HoF levels
devilish
beamdog completely butchered the first one, its probably their biggest offense out of all the remasters
The spiders are newbie traps, your starting party can't deal with them unless you twinked out the stats. Come back later or find NPC helpers.
Also ignore the fetchquests, they're a waste of time.
how so?
Why would you want it to be? When has a remaster or a remake ever lived up to, let alone improved on the original? Just play the original game for god's sake.
Not really. It played just fine.
>modders can actually fix the game for the modern PCs.
>Beamdog can't
What an incompetence.
>no companion personalities
>just a long dungeon crawl with DnD mechanics
That's iwd1 though
Everything else is too fucking small still m8
The spiders and moat house are the only early game quests though (and moat house had tons of spiders too)
I play it because I don't have any frens m8 although just last week I found out about gameranger & that there ARE people out there still playing through the originals online with friends and strangers
Just play the original, whats the problem?
very nice
Minmaxing is the only appealing part of 3.0 and IWD2 recognizes this, cutting out all that useless chafe like 'writing'.
old games have tons of problems with modern resolutions, particularly font, HUD, and assets
IWD EE has all of the BG2 kit and races, but there's legitimate gripes to be had since porting the game to the BG2 engine fucks with the balance a ton.
Still if you want to break the game with a party of Sorcerers the option is there.
I liked the IWD remaster, but it's the only one of the EEs that you can point to and say that it actually fucks things up.
The game is ported into the BG2 engine, and the inclusion of the new races and kits destroys the game balance. Like Sorcerers in a game where mage scrolls are random and extremely scarce. The proficiences are also changed due to the engine switch.
It's still a good, playable game, but it's a far different experience.
It's literally a few incels ass-blasted by a dialog line or two from the newer characters that they interpret to mean "SJW!!"
Fable Anniversary, sorta? It's straight up just a graphics upgrade and a few new items in a shop.
They did fuck up the M+KB controls but in exchange added in the (IMHO) superior Fable 2 controller scheme.
Crazy isn't it?
based retard
Beamdog imported new kits, spells and items into IWD1 that completely fuck up the balance retard. If you happen to unknowingly grab one of the items they implemented you'll roll over the entire game
I stopped playing video games to come on Yea Forums and read absolute shit posts like this?
>Slay the Spire
You fucking what?
This is basically it. I'm a bleeding heart libtard shit head who unironically likes SoD and most of the EE companions, but IWD EE is absolutely not a replacement for the original. It's fun, though.
Well I know in BG2, most of the healing that happens when you rest is from the game automatically casting any available heal spells. If you don't have a cleric or druid in your party, you rest for a long fucking time, like days on end, to recover to full HP.
>Repeatedly mentioning EE
You're gonna end up summoning Beamdog Pasta Demon if you carry on
doesn't matter though 'cause there's no time limits
bump
Beamdog Pasta Demon is a fuckboi and 90% of that list is hyperbole, but the IWD EE does have some significant chances as a result of switching to the BG2 engine.
It's not enough to make the game bad or anything, but it makes it a different experience.
Yeah, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2.
how do I sing bard songs in ToEE? got no option for it in ther adial menu
I like fuckbois cause I am one.
Is Icewind Dale 2 playable with only 1 character? I hate multitasking 6 characters at once just to play the game.
Every CRPG is, but you will have to powergame to survive and only certain classes or multiclasses can handle it.
do you need your mommy to wipe your bumbum after you make boom booms too?
That's pretty easy. You can become overleveled with a thief and conduct a massacre in a cave full of bandits.
I think I've heard of people doing that, but I've never done it myself.
Doing some stuff like 1 level in paladin as a drow and then dual classing into sorcerer probably has a lot of potential.
Yeah, you can, but a thief will struggle against high level opponents that rely on magical defenses and attacks and the latter stages of the game are full of those ,which is why you go thief/mage.
They were both demons, from the abyss, you dumb cunt
>its a "finally the superior game gets a remastered" episode
Is there anything wrong with the Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights remasters? I made the mistake of buying them both on Steam a while ago thinking I would get the OG versions too like on GOG.
How do I get the multiplayer working? Tried hamachi and gameranger and we still couldn't connect
