There will never be a Total War-style Horus Heresy game

I want it so bad bros

Much as the battles of the Horus Heresy, particularly the siege of Terra, were meant to be massive, the lore revolves mostly about a few.
Seems like Dynasty Warriors style would be more appropriate.

Only 40k games coming out are annoying turn based and dungeon crawlers. The indie scene has been doing most of the lifting... I have serious doubts 40k will ever get a worthwhile masterpiece game.

>Horus Heresy
>let's replace all of our interesting and diverse factions with different shades of space marines

I want a game to explore the lesser known parts of the franchise. Something like a post-apocalyptic RPG set during the unification wars, with techno barbarians, iron warriors would be dope.

Did Horus seriously wear that shit and NOT think he was evil?

Total War has been shit for a long time

>ahem

Dawn of War was great, but it isn't really going to satisfy immersing someone in a Warhammer 40k universe. We need some kind of RPG that puts you in the shoes of *someone* during one of the greater story arcs from 40k fiction, and the game must be made with extreme detail; like a Da Vinci work of art.. 40k deserves such a game.

post your models Yea Forums

>tfw no RPG where you play as a no-bullshit Arbites slowly uncovering a genestealer cult disguised as a drug trafficking operation that spans the entire hive city, all the while banging your hot blonde sidekick that's a rookie callidus assassin and also a psyker

Focusing on grand story arcs that barely exist anyways seems like a waste.
The galaxy is vast, there is a lot of potential for good stories.

Is there any reason why a Total War game can work in the modern times or future like W40K?
If anyone can do it it's them

By that stage most of his forces got their mojo from torture and cutting people up in various ways, so I doubt there was even a doubt about Good and Evil anymore.
It was more of a "might makes right" and "what we/I deserve" thing.

The scale of the conflict would never be represented properly.

Can we also get a Total Warrior W40K game like Spartan?
It was cool.

I am surprised GW has not yet released an overpriced Ordo Sinister Psy Titan.

I don't want a TW-like 40k game though. It's pointless. The battlefield would have to include orbital strikes, not just shit happening on the ground.

I would much prefer a game set during the Great Crusade, when all were loyal still, and humanity was conquering the stars, liberating their fellow humans from the yoke of xenos.

30k is boring compared to 40k, unless you absolutely love spess muhreens in 18 flavors

Post-Victorian Total war would require huge changes to reflect the more squad based warfare. This would require a new engine and far more intelligent AI.

Seeing as how there really isn't any competition, Creative Assembly will take things slow and not expend too much money and resources and just stay where they are for the better part of next decade.

new engine is something that is way overdue in the TW franchise.

Total War engine wouldn't be good outside of Fantasy/AoS. I'd prefer something like Steel Division or World in Conflict

Hes not wrong. An RPG set in an underhive would be way more immersive than playing random guardsman #84829 in the battle of buttfuck where the space marines turn up save the day anyway.

Taking part in big battles has been done in Firewarrior and Space Marine. We need a game with a tighter focus and smaller scale.

>not Supreme Commander Epic 40000

These in-universe individual pict-cap analysis pages are so great.
A cool simplification of what a post-conflict administratum data compilation might look like as well as a good look into the fates of individual legionaries during such a massive event.

Also: the white and blue of early world eaters is aesthetic as hell.
Additionally: Loyal traitor-legionaries are just the coolest thing to me. How do anons feel; who are the coolest in 30 and 40k?

Attached: Loyalist 1kSons at Istvaan III.jpg (522x423, 76K)

That's fair.
I take exception to the rookie callidus who is also a psyker.

Those look like Emperor's Children to me.

OP I recommend you the Armageddon game series by Slitherine games. It is hex field turn based strategy with mechanics similar to Panzer General and other older hex field games. Pretty good. You start out as a small time cadet commanding three squads of infantry and two squads of sentinels. Later you command legions of soldiers, superheavy ancinet tank squads, motherfucking TITANS and space marines. Your enemy is the orks, except for a few "non lethal" training excercises at the beginning.

The expansions are pretty nice too, especially the Ork Hunters. Their infantry has some much needed improvements compared to regular Steel Legion infantry. All of them can charge into melee or counter melee. Even the heavy weapon teams. Which offers hilarious images if you think about it.

>mfw orks charge my entrenched ogryn boneheads covered by two heavy weapon squads with heavy bolters. Those boyz got REKT

There is also a game set during the Horus Heresy with similar hex mechanics. It is called Battle of Tallarn. Haven#t tried it yet but it looks good.

>mfw Armageddon expansion, a single group of orks charge my Mordian Guard command squad and wipe it one go, thus killing my commander and costing me the whole mission
