Cinematic crouching simulator is the worst genre by far because it has heralded in the pretentious filmmaker types into the industry. At least with dudebro battle royale and military FPS shooters, it’s based on actual gameplay and skill.

Have you seen the opening sequence to The Living Daylights? Yes, part of loot grabbing is luck, but you as the player should know where to land in order to increase your chances at first. Aside from that, it’s all on you to survive. No cheap respawns and shooting ad nauseam in team deathmatch. Ammo preservation and stealth also plays in. The only people I see call it a lottery are usually trash and die within the first 2 minutes.

Battle Royale isn't a genre, but a game mode that has become popular enough to become a selling point and even primary game mode in games. It can be applied to basically every genre that can feasibly be designed around multiplayer.

Also even if it was a genre, MOBAs & MMOs are worse.

the best strategy is to simply go to the farthest region of the map from other droppers to loot up, then hide for the entire game and get easy kills that either come to you or are in the way of you getting in the zone

I agree it takes some aspects of skill, but the majority of the game is hiding

my biggest problem with the game is having to play with retards that don't understand that hiding is the best strategy in general

the sad thing about it are actually the games doing it. they are made to cater to literal NPCs, they are extremely dumb, retarded, and casual. the genre itself shouldn't that bad when you remove the vapid out of it. but there is no hope for it, apex legends tried to fix SOME of its core issues and the fortnite kids rejected it

sandbox MMOs work similarly and they are the best gaming has to offer. i think you can have a game that plays like that and directly puts you in action but that is still quality, it just wasn't made yet

"Battle Royale" has existed for decades, it's called "Last Man Standing" and barely anyone touched it because in 99% of games it's a strictly worse multiplayer mode compared to something like DM, TDM or CTF.

Literally the only difference between Battle Royale now and Last Man Standing back then is that LMS didn't have a culture of streamers surrounding it and a constant skinner-box drip-feed attached while BM does, which leads me to assume people don't actually like the core BM concept and are really only into it for the "culture" and the "You got ONE whole kill! Good job buddy here's a loot box" rewards system surrounding it.

That applies more to gacha than battle royal though.
