yes

boomerlicious

Poor man's Quake desu
I don't understand the dicksucking it gets, it's just a mediocre retro shooter

its pretty fun

I enjoyed it

It's okay.

30 years ago this would have been a hit.

But we're not 30 years ago.

Y'all looking forward to pic related?

Attached: wrath_logo.png (950x287, 184K)

then why was it a hit

Very good
Yes

I quite liked it, but for some fucking reason I got really nauseous everytime I played for longer than 15 minutes.

Anybody else had this or know why this is? I want to replay it but fear the nausea.

it was alright
im glad i only paid a tenner for it though

it's fuckin' shit m8

Pretty solid. Some retro FPS enthusiasts act like it's the second coming of Romero but it's got a lot of flaws, like the weapons could be a lot more satisfying and some of the enemy animations are shitty. Amid Evil is better in pretty much every way besides humor.

>release date is set for summer 2019
>radio silence since pax
I hope the Iron Maiden suit doesn't fuck this game over too.

There's only supposed to be a demo this summer. The full game aint coming until next year.

Steam lists it as releasing in Summer. I remember the 2020 release date being for the console versions, because they're not going to be using Darkplaces.

A shame the creator goes full left brownie points gobbler on his twitter account whenever the chance comes up.

Glad I pirated it.

I finished the first episode and wasn't impressed in any way by it

the game really picks up at Episode 2
inb4 "this game is good after X hours", E1 really feels like proof of concept demo, E2 and E3 level designs are marvelous

you have motion sickness, sorry. have fun never being able to enjoy FPS or VR

Very much so

But I am able to enjoy so many other FPSs without a single problem. This is the first one where this has been a serious issue.

Wish those fuckers released it on console already

it's better than quake

lol fucking rekt

>*wendigo screeches behind you*

yes. the music/sound design is incredible and being able to accelerated sidehop all over the place while fragging is amazing. honestly everything i could want out of a shooter, now they just need to release mod tools + coop for the perfect game

kys consolenigger

i'm more of an ion maiden man myself

Yeah actually I really liked it. If you like classic fps games and super fast movement, it's good enough to warrant $20. Great level design, great sound design, solid weapons. Gud shit

>that first wendigo encounter

Attached: 1340309158185.gif (256x144, 168K)

Who tf wants to play fps games on a console. Dusk runs on a toaster, break out your laptop and a $10 mouse

Interested?

Attached: Dusk1.png (661x1004, 1.09M)

How would you even be able to play this with a controller?
Is consistent strafe jumping and shooting even feasible without ridiculous amounts of auto-aim

There's a new one? Or is that still the first one?

What are some of the other really good indie FPS games? Just finished Doom 1 and 2 and am wondering what some of the modern must-plays are.

First one I guess

Attached: Dusk2.png (1322x1005, 914K)

I've heard Amid Evil is better. Neither are on gog yet.

it fucking annoyed me that you couldn't see protagonist's hands. Makes pump action shotgun way less satisfying to use if you cant see it being pumped.

amid evil
maximum action
ion maiden

That first wendigo encounter was great. Man, dusk has great atmosphere. When those freaky screaming horrors appeared in the third episode I nearly shat myself

It's excellent. Episode 1 is a really nice hillbilly horror FPS, by the time Episode 3 rolls around it's completely batshit crazy.

Attached: Dusk3.png (1322x1003, 2.38M)

Ah cool. Go ahead then.
It's pretty neat, though sometimes hard to follow.

A friend of mine works with this artist on another comic. He's got an issue where when the scene is literally dark (in shadows) it becomes very hard to follow what the hell is going on. I figured it was only related to one comic but seeing this I guess it's just his thing.

Attached: Dusk7.png (1323x1004, 1.69M)

Outstanding level design.

Attached: Dusk8.png (1326x1002, 1.8M)

Attached: Dusk9.png (1325x1004, 2.44M)

The art is great though so can't complain.
Also, what comic is he working on? If you can say

youre such a bitchy little sop

First episode was a little dry, but the whole thing gradually gets better and better through the very end. Every level was unique, lots of interesting gimmicks, definitely couldn't ask for much more from a small indie project. 8/10 game, definitely worth playing but also not the second coming of the retro FPS. Would gladly play a fourth episode.

Can it run on an Intel graphics 3000?

The Bekkoning

>tfw I spoke with the DuskDevs and 3D Realms at pax about doing a comic to help promote Amid Evil, Ion Maiden or Wrath
>some interest was suggested and small emails exchanged but still waiting

I think I'll be waiting a while for this.

>definitely worth playing but also not the second coming of the retro FPS.
But it really is

This comic needs an editor

Yeah but episode 2 had none of the originality of the first episode. I liked the desolate country-side farm theme it had going. The nice mix of cultists, scare-crow men and occasional gas mask soldiers made for an interesting mix. Episode 2 didn't have the same impact for me at all. Episode 2 felt like a downgrade thematically and I didn't enjoy all the military bases and tunnel bits I had to go through. Also, fuck 'you fell and broke your flashlight'. Episode 3 was awful all around.

Different guy here, what I missed in EP2 onwards was the lack of interaction/description. I felt like the small comments from the character added so much to the atmosphere.

the game has a backflip feature but you can (and should) disable it. Every time your view goes too much up or down the camera flips and its ass.

DUSK was creative and strong from a experience perspective, but enemy encounter design on average was rather lacking and incompetently done. The whole game is too easy to begin with.

AMID EVIL is creative only visually and in terms of level layouts, the combat encounters in AMID EVIL are pretty fucking boring because of a non-existent enemy priority scheme since all existing enemy types get thrown out every four levels for better or worse.

Ion Maiden might be a cool pseudo-hitscan shooter and has levels that borders on Thief-level of openness and complexity, but all enemies and weapons feel too identical because everything is hitscan (and the bowling bomb fucking wonky as hell).

Overload is fucking excellent in almost every way. Huge enemy roster with enemies who have unique behaviors instead of just "beeline towards you", with many weapons that feel great to use. On top of that the level design is the best out of all these boomer shooters

Dusk was lacking in non-hitscan weapons as well. There were 3, and I never found a reason to use the grenade launcher.

Did you play the most recent Ion Maiden level (House Of Horrors)? It introduces a crossbow weapon and some more enemies. I dont think the preview campaign is enough to go on, cause just like 90s shareware episodes it lacks all the variety of the full game.

Act 1 bored the shit out of me and see Act 2 open up with ANOTHER FUCKING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX cause me to quit.

Shame because apparently it gets better but it's like an entire doom megawad that's just Sandy Peterson.

Just finished it yesterday. It was a fucking blast.
>Amid Evil is better
Really? I thought it was kind of lacking in enemy variety.

I can't wait for it to come out for Switch

Though it's weird, it looks like shit. I mean, I get it's trying to look all Quake-ish but even Quake looks ten times better than this. It's like when indies make extremely primitive pixel art when SNES exists and shits all over it

appearantly Amid Evil devs will introduce new enemies in other episodes in the release patch

It was splendid

Dusk was made by like one russian guy who made nothing but spooky psychological horror games prior, so I can excuse it looking worse than the games it's emulating.

It will be on GOG. The dev also stated that every GOG user who has DUSK in steam will get a free copy on GOG.

I actually don't think it looks bad. The graphics themselves are, but the art direction is pretty good.

I liked it. It wasn't something very special like many people screamed everywhere, but it wasn't meh either. Well worth my 20$.

Yeah I loved it t b h. People ITT are shitting on episode 2 and 3 but they were honestly my favorites, both have way better gameplay on the harder difficulty than ep 1 and the atmosphere is still excellent.

Surprised nobody mentioned the music yet, probably the best vidya OST I've heard in a while
youtu.be/YBqSCUK5-vY

Mortar has shit tons of ammo and allows to shoot behind corner. Riveter is more of a luxury gun. My only problem with functionality of arsenal is shotguns bloat. Guns could've also been more gimmicky aesthetically like Blood with its Aerosol Can and Flare gun.

DUSK was made by a guy named David Szymanski who's definitely not a russian. He lives in Pennsylvania IIRC.

I agree with that. Even if the weapons were functionally identical, I'd have liked there to be more than a single magical weapon.

The summer thing is some kind of early access. They didn't talk much about this, but it isn't the full game.
About Ion Maiden, I'm kinda worried because the last release date is Q2 2019 and they don't talk shit about progress or any news. Apparently there is a trailer in the works wich should give us some info.

Attached: IMG_20190410_010925.jpg (1007x771, 170K)

Is Voidpoint still going through with Ion Maiden's release despite the lawsuit?

Better than nu-Doom by light-years.

well okay then

By modern standards yes. If this came out 20 years ago it would be shit.

Its a damn good love-letter to all things Quake. The little nods to Doom, Hexen, Heretic, Blood and Strife are icing on the cake.

Agreed 100%. Nu-doom is closer to mario at this point than it is to quake

Attached: cheerful-grandpa-giving-thumbs-up.jpg (1300x1100, 97K)

I wonder what that last weapon is going to be.

The devs stated they can't talk about it, but it won't affect the development. Anyway, Iron Maiden doesn't have a strong case. Maybe better lawyers but I'm not worried about it.

>Mario
You mean Devil may cry.

Attached: 7e0.jpg (850x531, 146K)

It was fantastic. Very well done and oddly tense and discomfiting at times.

>You mean Devil may cry.

No they literally added mario powerups to doom eternal ffs

Quite honestly my own complaint. A BLOOD-like dynamite would have been godlike.

Having an abdomen without skin must be awkward. How much dirt and filth do you think gets inside him? How often does he need to hose out his insides? What if bugs crawled into his belly of tubes?

I actually love the graphics. Low-poly shit is my jam, and they did a great job with it.

He's immune to splash damage so he can just shoot rockets into his midsection.

Thanks doc, but this new med doesn't feel right

I wish they would actually give some kind of timeline for the stuff they're supposedly adding to it, like the SDK, co-op mode, endless mode leaderboards, etc.

FoV too high?

This tbqh, I want custom maps asap

The SDK was meant to release this summer as of PAX East.

pretty boring, levels became way too gimmicky later on, bosses were boring as shit.

>That boomer that thinks vanilla Doom is the epitome of FPS games

i haven't actually played it yet. i have moderate hopes.

As opposed to what?

I love when I get it right on the very first try.

nah, powerslave is better but that's another discussion entirely. I'd like Dusk to learn from 25 years of quake custom maps instead of retreading old ground.

anyone played this? it seems good but i get stuck wondering what the fuck i'm supposed to do over and over

Attached: hedon.jpg (1280x720, 105K)

So you have no examples?

inb4 someone posts the creators OC porn.

>no response
Yikes.

idiot

If you’ve never played Quake and are thinking about Dusk: Get Quake first. Then, when you want more Quake craziness after its main story and campaigns - download the Arcane Dimensions levels.

DUSK is mainly if you want something a bit different and want to support a guy along the way, but I will absolutely point people to Quake first.

Can DUSK’s textures be modded?

Read scrolls

Way better than it had any right to be. I got it expecting a standard boomershooter that i would enjoy for an afternoon then forget. And in a way that's all it was, but it was phenomenal how it pulled it off.

Attached: 1551241080128.jpg (640x459, 127K)

Stop fucking looking at Twitter
There's fuck all of worth or note on the site
It's just tiny bitesize bits of inane crap

I liked it, but was dissapointed in multiplayer.

Yuffa on HF. I wish I liked his artstyle. Not enough grey/purple demon futa art.

Great levels
Great Movement
Boring guns
Not enough guns
Kinda lame enemies
Good but bland music

the biggest problem is the presentation. I know, it's a stylistic decision but a few more polygons per enemy would have worked wonders for the game.

When the SDK launches.

>Boring guns
This is definitely my biggest complaint as well. The only gun that really tried to capture the experimental feel of 90s shooters was the crossbow, everything else was just bog-standard FPS guns.

>SDK is upcoming
Wasn’t aware, great to know.

>doom and quake ripoff shooters as far as the eye can see
>even fucking descent has a game based on it
>still nothing for unreal

I need it

Attached: IceSkaarj.jpg (351x467, 25K)

It doesn't have a release date, but it's meant to support Quake map files.

>descent has a game based on it
Which game? Descent was the shit, played it all the time when i got my first pc

youtube.com/watch?v=nyyS4PtC2zM

It's really good, even if the art screams unity as fuck.

it wasnt

cringe

Thanks for showing me this user, i'll go buy a monster so i can sip it while playing this

I wasn't bored by its weapons. I really liked Dusk's version of the standard shotgun being a dual-wieldable, lever-action shotgun that you spin around to cycle. The sound behind the AR and Hunting Rifle carried those weapons for me because they felt so meaty, and being able to dual wield the pistol went a long way for me. I guess despite the selection being largely unexciting, I still thought the weapons felt good to use.

Attached: Dusk Shotguns.webm (1280x720, 2.81M)

God I can hear that level's music

A solid 8/10.

>that gravity warping thing level
how many games do you know that do shit like that?

That level had the best soundtrack in the game.

Attached: wendigo7.png (954x1350, 1.61M)

I wish AAA devs could be half as based as indie devs.
