I want to replay FF7 after 20 years thanks to you, fags.
What is the best version right now?
I heard that there is some audio problems with the recent PC version?

PS1

the audio issues was on the original PC port from like 15 years ago, the one on Steam right now is not the same. Also the PS4 and Switch versions are the same as the one on PC, so it really doesn't matter where you choose to play it's all the same.

original ps1 is still best

"newer" versions are based on a buggy beta of the PC game that was reworked because the original source was lost, leads to a lot of small things that are wrong

Switch is the most fixed version of the game. It still has an audio bug or two but nothing substantial.

>PS4
actually it has the looping music bug that the Switch version doesn't

I am currently going thru on the remastered PS4 version.

They changed things like some of the translation errors and the graphics are crystal clear but I notice a lot of the pixelated particle effects are either missing or muddled. Plus they cheat buttons are just a weird inclusion.

The original PS1 version and its direct PS3 emulation are the only good versions.

All other ports are based on the garbage PC version from 1998, and thus run on an archaic Direct3D engine which means

>No soft shadows
>No glow effects
>No particle effects
>No transparency

Which destroys the moody atmosphere of the game.

Plus the music is out of sync with the visuals in key scenes and most of the ports have the music looping bug as well.

Any version/emulator with turbo to speed up the traveling and random battles

Retranslated PS1 version.

I'm replaying using the ps4 version. its a disaster. many sound problems. hyper blurry backgrounds. not recommending it.
I would say to play the original psone on emulator or pc version with mods, specially background ones

Not needed in FF7 because battles are pretty fast. Now FF8 and FF9 on the other hand..

>not just playing Final Fantasy VII International in Japanese

what is this retrasnlation I never heard before?

best version coming through

I just bought it on Switch myself

Wow, TL notes in a video game. I've never seen that before

people here are dumb as fuck. seems like i should take some time these days and write a proper guide.
but here for now:

install pc version/steam version
go to qhimm
download 7th heaven (its like a automated mod database)
dl remako (ai enhanced backgrounds, they are superb)
dl ps1 soundtrack (not the rearranged fake orchesta bullshit)
dl new worldmap
afterwards go to nexus and dl the official artwork battlemodels.
done, you have the best version possible and it looks GREAT.

here, have a little spoonfeed for the "hardest" part of this.

There is no way to mod FF7 PC version to look as good as the original, because the engine itself doesn't allow it. It's a Direct3D engine from 1998 and there is NOTHING you can do about it.

You are a philistine.

seems like you didn't do your homework, nostalgia junkie. I'm one of the harshest critics ff7-wise, and this is the optimal setup to make it look better and NOT change anything.

You are still a philistine, and I will teach you why.

Your "improved" picture features flat lighting, shadows that are solid flat circles with hard edges and textures that are a mismatched mess.

Even this 360p jpg screenshot of the original looks better. Notice the soft shadows emulating modern ambient occlusion grounding the characters to the scene, while in your picture they look like they're photoshopped into the picture. Notice the better overall lighting where everything fits together rather than looking like poor patchwork.

PS1, emulated or otherwise, is the only acceptable version for those who care about artistic intent.

need US version, which is missing the optional bosses and some materia, right?

>Dumb Hoe
>Mr. T

I've never understood how people could do this without regretting it like five hours in

I just bought the Switch version a few days ago, on "disc 2" right now.
>all 3D models are HD, they kinda clash with the blurrier pre-rendered backgrounds but you get used to it
>battle transition swoosh is kinda different, looks clean, faster, and less blurry, not a big deal but different
>the music bug is "fixed" in that it doesn't restart with battles, however it still restarts when entering/exiting a town which wasn't the case PS1 if I remember correctly
>sound effects in battle are louder than in the menus or overworld, and much much louder than FMVs. You can change sound effect and music volume separately but you have to choose between blowing your speakers and ears out in battle or settle for quiet FMVs.
>some audio is low quality, in particular the "gaining XP" sound effect after battles is very crackly
>Wall Market music is missing the two-second intro for some reason
>Game froze once, had to reload

Overall mostly nitpicks, pretty nice playing FF7 in bed and on the toilet.

I just emulated it.

>tfw won't even be able to rename characters in the remake due to voice acting being a thing

why not just play it on PSP bro

is this a modded psx version?

pc, mod it. amazing mods out there especially with all the background improvements lately

I sold it long ago. Can probably get another cheap, but whatever. I have a Switch and it has FF7 and it's acceptable.

android I think

I never really played around with it since I usually regret it but I can understand why people would be upset

Has this thread taught you nothing? It has the solid flat circle shadows, so it's based on a shitty PC port.

there are a few names that often get renamed for non-weird reasons, like Red XIII to Nanaki, or Aeristh preferences

I dunno if US version is missing things but yeah, it needs the US release.

Renaming Red XIII to Nanaki is weird, because his real name is a plot reveal. It's the same as naming Marle Nadia.

The remake is going to to be the best version. Just be patient retard.

>best version
it's going to be a different game, it may be based on FF7 but it's not a replacement

it's not much different than saying FF15 is the best version of FF1

you never rename red 13
you get the reveal, but you can't name him again

My first exposure to FF7 was the boxed PC version. It kept crashing everywhere. I eventually I just bought a PS1.

I cant believe the version is still around.

dayum where can i get this?
