Vergil is Vegeta at this point, his character will just freeze at this point of eternally looking for a rematch against Dante, even if non-lethally, and maybe against Nero as well.

Finally getting around to finishing DMD. I didn't do it before cuz I wanted to save it because I know it'll probably be a decade before I get another one.

I only get A Ranks on every section for style points but I end up S ranking the missions via the no continues multiplier. What's the deal with that? Do I just suck? I got some S rank sections on normal but it seems really hard to do on DMD. Is the only TIP here git gud?

Just because it might contradict the 5 second blurb at the beginning of DMC1 doesn't mean it's a radical difference in themes or how it plays out. There was never any danger of Lady or Dante getting killed, we knew Dante was going to triumph and Vergil lose at the end.

I think you missed the fact his humanity, V, was also itching to fight Dante, that's the whole reason he choose to merge with Urizen instead of just dying on the spot; Vergil could've just had scaled down his fever for fighting against Dante to less dangerous levels.

Vergil's desire for power did spawn directly from Dante. It was from his trauma. Being tossed around by demons until he went nuclear, thinking his mother didn't bother to come for him/being unable to save her. He wanted power because it was his right as a son of sparda. After he got tossed around by Mundus though, that's when his sole focus was power for the sake of killing Dante. That's not the case anymore. If it was he wouldn't have even let Nero interfere. Vergil changed. The game's narrative would be pointless if he didn't.

Vergil didn't split himself just because he had a hate boner for dante though. He was corrupted and dying, and V wanted to die in the first place.

He wanted to stop Urizen and die until he talked to Trish, then he decided to go for the merge because he had unfinished business with Dante. It's interesting to note that at first Dante was much more dead set on fighting Vergil than the other way around.

V himself says he and Urizen shared one thing, one thing only, their business with Dante.

I liked how DMC5 sort of potrayed Dante as an old and jaded asshole.

He seems very "done with it" until he finds out Vergil is involved. His reason for fighting in DMC5 seems to come from a pretty selfish place. Both Dante and Vergil seem to consider their battles the highlights of their lives.

Well, I don't get what part you're referring to with DMC5, but in DMC1 Dante wasn't able to kill Mundus at all. Dante was only able to do any real damage by using Sparda's power in the Underworld (demon power was stronger there as well). In the human world though, Dante was much weaker and could barely hold him back (Trish even had to help him). Add that with how Mundus saying he was gonna return someday and...yeah.

DMC partly suffers from the Kingdom Hearts syndrome where a lot of the fanbase played the games when they were young and they took the story very seriously. So when they play the new one and suddenly realize its pretty corny, they feel betrayed.

It lacked a "proper" antagonist. Something like Arkham. By having Vergil be the sole antagonist you just knew from the start that he wouldn't be killed of for good, making the story inconsequential as fuck.

Honestly this, i generally liked DMC5's plot, but an absence of big bad for all three of them to fight against was disappointing.
