Mupen64Plus is a good emulator, it's used in Bizhawk which is a multi-system emulator used by speedrunners to create TASs (tool assisted speedruns), I guess because they consider it the most accurate?

In any case, I played through all of Ocarina of Time with Mupen64Plus and it ran perfectly. I'm sure there are tiny inaccuracies but I didn't see any. It rendered everything perfectly and ran perfectly.

As for Dolphin playing N64 games, I've never heard of that, from googling it looks like some people do it for specific games, but yeah, Mupen64Plus is probably the best thing to try first.

I was born in 1991 and I've been playing on emulators since like 2000? ZNES was the first emulator I ran on this old laptop I had around that time (Pentium III 550MHz, 32MB RAM I think - later upgraded to 128MB, and a 12GB HDD). And ZNES was first released in 1997.

Emulation is great, to be honest.

I'd be happy to play Conker at 20 fps if at least the polygons didn't glitch all over the place

There are ways to increase the frame rate, but from what I've seen it fucks up everything, because all the animations are tied to the frame rate, so you'll be walking too slowly and things like that.

I have no problem with playing the game in its normal frame rate, it has always used that frame rate, and it runs fine. Very rarely do you see dips in the frame rate (one example is when you kill a stalfos and its bones fall apart - that's the only major example of lag I can think of).

I would advise playing it in its normal frame rate. I think it runs absolutely fine for the sort of game it is. You could try and mess with the fps but I don't think there is any way to make the game playable like that, because it fucks up all the animations and timings and everything.

Mupen64Plus will of course allow you to increase the resolution a lot, though, and still maintain 100% speed as long as you have a semi-decent computer.

Ocarina in Mupen64Plus doesn't glitch, for what it's worth. I've never played Conker though so maybe it does. But I would recommend that emulator. Or of course you can try P64 as an alternative if M64P doesn't work.
