Adding to this, most of these games are only really overrated in hindsight. Modern Warfare and Halo reshaped the entire FPS genre when they came out, and FFVII was similar in that aspect. Most of these I can acknowledge as good games even though a lot of them aren't really my thing. Bioshock Infinite isn't good at all though

American "journalists" don't give a shit about Jap games outside of big name titles like anything from Nintendo or Genius Kojumbo, which is why MGS 4, Smash Bros, and Zelda are the only ones on that list.

Most of those games are not overrated. They do what they do better than other games similar to them. They aren't overrated just because they're popular.

Since when is DA:O overrated? It's genuinely one of the last WRPGs worth playing, but even then I feel like the reception to it was fairly mild.

Even from the perspective of an average player brawl is unplayable levels of bad, the one thing it has going for it is subspace. I can't imagine playing it when melee, ultimate, and project M exist, there's just no reason to.

Combos basically don't exist in the game and you don't have to be particularly good to pick up on how massively overpowered metaknight is. It becomes even less fun the better the get at it and the more you know about the game.

To an extent, but most of the games in "Best games" lists are more overrated then these.

These are all mostly games from gen 6 onwards, which means that they generally have more content, polish, better visuals, etc then, wheras the majority of games on "BEST GAMES EVER" lists are from Gen's 3-5 and compared to newer titles are more flawed then them.

Because the actual overrated games wouldn't be in "overrated games" lists, it'd be in the "best games" lists because that's them getting their dick sucked.

Of those, the only ones i'd even say arguably aren't more or less objectively outdone by games doing the same sort of concepts and ideas, namely their sequels, are A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, SMW, Tetris, Metroid Prime, bioshock, Melee, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and MGS3

TP is basically just OOT 2.0, and does the same shit better, Both sunshine and Odyssey are better then SM64 in virtually every way with better level design and core movement/physics, SFII is super fucking basic compared to basically any other fighting game released in the past 2 and a half decades, with re-releases and ports of SF2 being almost objective improvements, MGS is basically invalidated by it's sequels as well, Goldeneye holds up like shit, Gen 1 of pokemon are unbalanced and broken as fuck and lack an absurd amount of basic qualioty of life featutres it's sequels have, they are litterally the worst games in their franchise. Super Mario Kart is barbones as fuck compared to any of it's sequels as well, with the GBA mario kart being basically thr same game with more content, and Soul Calibur is likewise invalidated by basically every other game in it's franchise which has more refined mechanics and more characters.

None of these games were hyped up or have particularly passionate fans though. Gta5 is considered dumb sandboxy fun, la noires [doubt] system is a punchline in the eyes of anyone who's played it, mgs4 is the one mgs game I never see people bring up if it isn't something from one of the last cutscenes, gow 2 and 3 just met expectations they didn't make waves the way the original game did, brawl and skyward sword are both considered the worst games in their series. Bioshock infinite absolutely is given the writer doesn't even hide he was just trying to make a convoluted plot. Everything else, no they were all game changers, even arkham city, which still after 4 years is the most graphically impressive game I've ever seen.

Name a single thing OOT does better then TP.

As far as Sunshine, on top of Sunshine obviously having better visuals and audio, it's got tighter and more responsive controls and physics then 64 does (64 actually being pretty clunky, with a super wide turn radius etc), which is one of the two most important things to a platformner

The other more important thing is having good level design, which sunshine also beats 64 at. Virtually all of 64's levels are designed around linear pathways that might as well just be a 2d mario level. Sunshine actually makes use of being a sandbox game by having platforming spread all across their levels and allowing the player to make freeform platforming pathways throughout each map. Compare all the space outside the main path in Bomb-oimb battlfield (IE mostly blank space and a random tree and enemy), vs all the space outside of the main path in Bianco hills (a series of buildings and tightropes in a village, a large wall, a series of trees along a park path, a series of poles and tightropes betweeen them over a lake), etc.

The only reason people shit on sunshine is because they use FLUDD as a crutch without considering how much the game's level design goes to encourage and reward platforming and exploration if you don't use fludd.

It's mainly the cast. It's vastly superior to every other FF game, and arguably most other JRPGs. Virtually everyone knows Cloud, Tifa and Sephiroth, even people who haven't played FF7 or jrpgs. They're not only the face of FF but arguably of JRPGs, at least in the west. The story and setting are great as well, but almost every FF has a good story and setting. It's the cast and aesthetics of FF7 that sets it apart from others.

I haven’t played it but doesn’t Sunshine get rid of a few moves, namely the long jump? I could see people not liking it over 64 because of that, and the later games weren’t as similar to 64, Galaxy being single levels that are less open, the 3dland/world games being completely linear 2d/3d hybrids, and Odyssey having 6 gorillion moons.
